Schoedsack • • • With the movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) releasing soon, I figured I’d watch a movie relating to one of these iconic monsters. Normally I’d go for a Godzilla movie but since I’ve seen most, I thought I’d go for the original Kong movie since I had never seen it. It’s honestly pretty crazy how much they were able to do 91 years ago. The stop-motion animation looks great. The matte paintings are beautiful. The rear projections were done well. It’s a technical feat to see all of what they managed to put on screen. The cinematography captures it all wonderfully. The story is pretty simple but is still interesting enough. The characters are probably even more simple and didn’t have me as interested in them. I mainly just enjoyed this for how it presented Skull Island and for its production value. One of the best parts was the iconic T-Rex fight scene. One of the big takeaways I had with watching this was how much of this was used in Peter Jackson’s 2005 Kong film. The story and some of the action scenes are all are practically the same. Even the iconic score is brought to the 2005 version. Anyways, it was great seeing this all-time classic. REVIEW: #kingkong (1933) Very much like Godzilla I shouldn’t have to say much about this film because not only is one of the greatest films ever made but one of the most groundbreaking and influential movies at it’s time and still is. This film pioneered a lot of special effects and was one of the very first films to have sound. The story is pure and original in its own way ( other than the lost world (1925) ), the visuals and cinematography were eerie but unique and lastly the stop motion. It may be dated to most people but I’m a sucker for stop motion and that art of format will never get old. Of course The trex scene is one of my favorite scenes, and intresting the scene took 7 weeks to animate that whole scene. Plus the ending is iconic. Overall it’s a gorgeous film and very important on special effects came a very long way. Schoedsack ve Merian C. Cooper oynamaktadır. Filmde 1923 yılına ait, Ankara Kalesini gören Hatip Deresi manzarası ve Akköprü üzerinde sahne çekimleri bulunmaktadır. Watched #KingKong (1933) : Rewatch makes it better. A stupendous and groundbreaking achievement in the monster genre that even surpasses Hoyt's astonishing #TheLostWorld (1925). I saw Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) a decade ago and couldn't stop crying after the film. Then I learned about the earlier version of the story, which took me to this 1933 flick. I was stunned! Now, revisiting this monstrous classic after watching over 5000 films doesn't change the fact that it was a groundbreaking film for all times. Rather, this re-watch made it better for me because it came after I saw Harry O. Hoyt's prodigious cult, "The Lost World." I just can't believe they achieved such effects almost a century ago. The Lost World, or even the 1933 King Kong, may look like a toy story cartoon in black and white today, but just imagine watching these films in the 1920s and 1930s. Even the idea of imagining this leaves chills in my spine. I can't imagine how the audience would have reacted to those scenes. Kong takes 45 minutes of runtime to make his first appearance, and after he enters the picture, he takes it to a whole new monstrous level. It's ENORMOUS, GIGANTIC and UNIMAGINABLE! One could have only dreamt about it, but they made that Kong vs Godzilla (type of) fight scene in 1933. How!!? Above all, they had an intellectual ending too. "It wasn't the airplanes. It was the beauty that killed the beast." Disney should have sent them a copyright strike, not because they used the title but for being too intelligent and metaphorical about it. I mean, who would have thought about ending the film with such a powerful dialogue? Insane. The Empire Tower and Train scene was just crazy. Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack must be mad to think about creating this spectacle one has never heard of. But, as they say, mad people make history. They did. King Kong (1933) - BD I’m going to tell you a story you won’t believe. This marks the first time I’ve seen the 1933 version of King Kong as an adult. And, despite the obvious technical limitations and the acting style of the period it was filmed in, I am convinced this is the best one of the bunch, including the 1976 AND the 2005 remakes. The execution oozes authenticity and sincerity, is gripping on an emotional level and makes a human connection with me across a 90+ year time-gap. If that isn’t a powerful achievement I don’t know what is. There are a couple of shots that are mildly damaged, but for the larger part this is struck from a negative that is as pristine as one would wish for from a century old movie (shy of only 10 years!) The transfer is gorgeous for such an old movie and absolutely has no need for 4K. When spectacle ensues there’s the usual overload that is common for those old sound recordings. But in the better part of the film sound has clarity and doesn’t annoy. Bonus features are spectacular and comprehensive. This is a great package! I can wholeheartedly recommend this if you have at least an iota of appreciation for film-history.
