The FMNCP is a program in British Columbia supported by the BC Ministry of Health and @ColumbiaBasinTrust, that promotes healthy eating, supports local farmers' markets, and enhances food security. The program works through a weekly distribution of coupons to low-income families, pregnant individuals, and seniors. These coupons can be redeemed at participating farmers' markets for various nutritious foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, dairy, eggs, herbs, plants, honey, meat, and fish. 🌱 Golden Growers Guide 🌱 It’s May, skies are blue and days are warming rapidly! Whilst Almanac states Golden’s last frost date is June 2, local weathered wisdom suggests May Long Weekend is a traditional time to plant out in our area. Act NOW to get a start on your long-season winter squash such as Blue Hubbards or Red Kuri, but try to using soil blocks or homemade paper pots, as their roots can be tender. For an early crop of cucumbers, follow the same steps. You can start your brassica fall crops indoors in the last few days of this month. Now’s a great time to direct sow beets, radish, turnips, carrots, onion sets and a succession of peas and greens. You can transplant out your hardened-off brassicas, celery and allium seedlings now. Potatoes can also go in. Everything in the garden right now will benefit from a floating row cover (Remay cloth) to keep tender plants snug during our still-cold nights. Make a mural with us! 🎨 We're participating in the @cityrepairproject Village Building Convergence this year, which is an annual community-building and placemaking project. Our placemaking project will be painting a mural on the street of SE Tibbetts, where the @peoplesfarmers market takes place! This mural will be co-created by and for the vibrant community that gathers at the Farmers' Market and Co-op to access local, healthful, sustainable foods and community connections. 🪄Exploring Role and Embodiment in Therapy Feeling inspired after my Drama Therapy workshop and training at Evolutionary Psychotherapy, a group practice that offers mental health counseling & holistic healing through a variety of modalities, located in Kingston, NY. I spoke about clinical tools and interventions that are aligned with creative arts therapy and drama therapy, when working with a variety of populations. Through role, creativity, embodiment and play, clinicians cultivated a new language to speak about a clients experience in addition to trying on roles themselves through statue-work, role reversal and improvisation. Creating and cultivating community in different spaces fills me with such gratitude and reminds me of the power and strength we can gain from sharing new and innovative tools with one another.
