Corona Arch, Utah ☀️ (Bit of a triggering name for this one, yikes) but nonetheless, it’s a hidden gem outside of Arches National Park! The timed entry passes to get into Arches National Park during peak season go pretty quickly, even when it’s 100+ degrees in the Utah desert. If you don’t snag one and are on a schedule, head over to Corona Arch instead! This hike doesn’t require a pass or fee. This sits between Arches and Dead Horse Point State Park right near the Colorado River. While this is a super easy trail to google, just keep in mind you may not have good service in this area. You’ll drive on a dirt road for a few miles after leaving the paved highway. Eventually you’ll arrive to an actual large parking lot big enough for campers and cars. The trail is well marked and is about three miles round trip, this is an out and back trail. It’s moderately difficult and could be challenging if it happens to rain as the rock faces will get slippery. There are cables and ladders to assist you on the parts that are a bit dicey. Keep in mind, you’re in the desert, so if you go in July like we did, the sun and heat will be INTENSE. There is little to no shade on this trail until you get to the arch where there is a massive rock overhang that provides shade during parts of the day. Not all of the gorgeous arches around Moab are in Arches NP! Here's the stunning Corona Arch 😍 The hike to get here is a bit steep and has a ladder (last pic). Wow is the view worth it! Incredible! Ha I said incredible again! The panorama at the top is this rock bowl with Corona and Bowtie Arch. A rock canyon surrounds everything. 10/10 would do again! Very pleasant short hike in the Moab area. In total of about 4 miles you’ll see 3 arches ( Pinto, Bowtie and Corona Arch). The drive on Potash Road is very scenic. You can see climbers scattered along the enormous slickrock wall on various routes at all times of the year. Very cool sight. There is also a rock art ( just follow the signs). On the other side of the road is Colorado River. We’re on day 132 and mile 4,404 of our eight month journey from the southernmost point in the continental U.S., Key West, to the northernmost point you can drive in North America, Tuktoyaktuk, in the Arctic Circle of Canada. We spent this week in the funky lil’ town of Moab, Utah, which is the only city in the U.S. that’s home to TWO national parks- Arches and Canyonlands. This town is WILD-looking, with red sandstone that’s been carved into arches, canyons and mesas over the millennia 🏜️. We got to explore this area a few years ago and hit most of its super popular attractions then, like the Delicate Arch in Arches or Mesa Arch in Canyonlands. So this time, we focused on some more off-the-beaten path destinations, like; 📍Canyonlands: This is the least visited national park out of the five in Utah, which is kind of unbelievable, given how stunning it is. It’s also MASSIVE- you could easily spend 3-4 days exploring its overlooks, hikes, and scenic drives 🚗. Our favorite spots in the park are the Green River Overlook, the White Rim Overlook, and the Druid Arch Trail (which we got to do with our rad new friends, @wanderlusttravelcouple). 📍Corona Arch: This 102 foot arch is outside of both national parks but absolutely worth the hike to get to 🥾- in fact, it’s TWICE as tall as the famous Delicate Arch (the one on Utah’s license plate!) 🤯 Have you ever been to Moab? 👋🏽 Hi, we’re Justin & Jess. I just had a 22 hour vacation (counting driving time) that could have been one of my best ever! I started shooting the Aurora Borealis last night (link at end) around 10p. I stopped around 3a. Slept for 2 hours, then got up and started shooting around the Islands in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park in Moab. I stopped shooting today around 4pm. In the 16-hours shooting window, I was able to do the following: shoot the northern lights, rock climbers, hike to Corona Arch, try to move Balanced Rock with my awesome strength, shoot sunrise, shoot a Blue Heron fishing, photograph a rainbow, go on a 3-hour backcountry 4-wheeling drive on Shafer Trail Road, shoot blooming cacti, overcome my fear of heights, view amazing scenes, photograph a dog wearing sunglasses, and make friends with 2 ladies from Brazil. Probably the most popular hike in Moab outside of the National Parks is to Corona Arch. At only 2.3 miles, it's short, it's easily accessible from town, and you actually get two arches for the price of one because Bowtie Arch is also along the route.
