✨…newly acquired addiction to LMCVintageGoods from the 1920s. Originally thought this one was a Ford, but when I looked closely at the scanned image, it has “Birmingham” on the grill. 🤔 . Birmingham Motors was a US based automobile company. Organized in 1920, it was tentatively in business only from 1921 through 1923. The Birmingham offered a number of unusual features, including a type of swing axle suspension and exterior finishes of DuPont Fabrikoid instead of paint. A political scandal involving the mayor of Jamestown, New York who was the company’s titular president resulted in Birmingham Motors going out of business. Only about 50 Birmingham autos were built; none of which are known to have survived to the 21st century. . A recent commission for @lafleurduflore This is DuBarry 766b from circa 1933-1934. It is made out of medium weight rayon/linen blend with coral pink cotton collar, cuffs and belt. I made this dress several years ago, where I added hand painted polka dots to resemble the pattern cover, and Jenn requested this for her dress as well. I just love how it turned out! It was serendipity that I just happened to have these perfectly matching large vintage Moonglow buttons. The belt buckle is pink mother of pearl and as always I used a vintage metal zipper. Remembering the incomparable James Stewart, born May 20, 1908, pictured in a tweed suit and oxford shoes on the set of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) reading Life magazine—specifically the issue dated April 24, 1939 with British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain on the cover. Arguably one of his greatest films, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington resulted in Stewart’s first Oscar nomination though he wouldn’t win @theAcademy Award until the following year for The Philadelphia Story (1940)—the actor himself said this was likely to compensate for his not being appropriately awarded for his performance as Jefferson Smith. He would later receive nominations for It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950), and Anatomy of a Murder (1959), all roles demonstrating the versatility of his “everyman” screen persona. Stewart was an accomplished combat pilot, having enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces at the start of World War II and rising to the rank of full colonel in only four years. Although Piguet is not as well known as his contemporaries, he was one of the most important designer of his times. In his early career he was designing to houses such as Poiret, and Redfern, and opened his own fashion house in 1933. Icons of the next generation all worked for Piguet in their early days (Hubert de Givenchy, James Galanos, Pierre Balmain, Marc Bohan, and Christian Dior etc.). I just got back from a week in Northern Ireland. Saying I loved it doesn’t do it justice, I loved everything I saw. Everything! And I didn’t even see the most famous spots. 😅 I’m still processing all that beauty, and I will need some time to organize my thoughts. They are very delicate but I love them. 👒 The hat is another copy made by @letsmakevintage This time in a shade of yellow with delicate white flowers. #thevintagefashionchallenge Day 20- Solids ✨ ✨ ~ I haven’t showed you guys some of my earlier stuff so I thought this 1920’s look would be perfect for today! ~ The details on this Art Deco dress are TO. DIE. FOR. That drape off the shoulder and the rhinestone broach sewed on at the hip line 😍🤤🫠 If you swipe through, you’ll see how cool that drape is on the back and a close up of the broach. ~ I’m wearing an original art deco blue glass lanyard here. It’s so cool, no clasps Ofcourse, you just tie it in the front and then it hangs like that💙 ~ Ok… so let’s talk about this insane original coat 🤯 It’s a 1920’s black satin coat, lined in wool, has huge bell sleeves and this enormous and gloriously high fur collar. Talk about dramatic. I can’t even with how fantastic this coat is. It reminds me of Eleanor Roosevelt, she has some pretty high collar coats. ~ The shoes are also original 1920’s silver heels and one of my absolute favorite pairs of shoes! I got these in a shop many years ago, the lady had had them for 25 years and finally just put them out for display only because they didn’t fit anyone who had ever tried them on, until me! They fit me like a glove and this woman had been waiting 25 years to see them on someone’s foot 🥹 she was so happy!
