Patty and I (Laura) have known each other for about 9 years, and worked together for a few. We count ourselves very lucky that we both love what we do. And we get on. So well that we can comfortably disagree with each other. We often chat stuff through and sometimes approach things from very different angles. Until we both arrive in the same place. The great thing is that that means all our suggestions and changes are fully considered. We don’t always go with what’s obvious. The other thing we do a lot is talk about clients behind their backs. No joke, about 60% of our direct WhatsApp’s are about our clients. That’s because we are always thinking, mulling over ideas. We frequently will send a WhatsApp at about 8:05pm on a Thursday with a link to an item of furniture or storage and say “do you think would work for x?” Often followed by a flurry of excitement and links to similar products. Some mornings we wake up and immediately say “I was thinking about so and so’s living room last night and I wonder if moving the sofa/chair/sideboard to …. would make the space work better for them?” Basically we love our job, and because of that we put in the hours. We invest ourselves fully into our projects. So fancy having your ears burning on a Thursday night while we discuss how we are going to make your home incredible, when you’re watching tv? Knots!! I find it a great challenge as a Forest School Practitioner to teach knots!! People always forget knots; if you don’t use them. Children shun away thinking they will be boring a difficult. It’s an exercise in muscle memory and fun! You have to utilise and bring them alive to make them fun. I love to associate a story to them. This week was all about the Hitches: Timber and Clover. I wonder if you’ve been to India? They use timber from the woods for building and for fuel; this knot works on small piles of sticks, which children love collecting! The snake is introduced… the snake lies on the ground and the wood is piled on top and then the snakes head wraps around its body, gets cold and wraps again around its body and twists to keep warm. Pulllll it tight and then show off how clever this knot is by loosening it so easily. The exciting thing is you can use it to put up shelters too. And the Clover Hitch; another classic knot is great for frames, holding up cauldrons over fires and for Stone Age axes!! It’s fun tying knots! Telling stories. And of course swinging on a rope swing with another knot or two. The mat studio has been holding space for yoga and mat Pilates classes, sound baths, Kirtan, strength training and all sorts of workshops from foam rolling to dancing to voice projection to partner yoga, since 2016. The living wall struggled during the lockdowns, missing the hot sweaty environment of a busy yoga studio, and we did try to replant it at the end of 2022, but sadly it didn’t take. So we called in @conservatory_archives to help, and I’m so happy it’s finally looking lush and happy again. We’ve also got brand new @yogi.bare mats, in a perfect East of Eden green, so the studio is looking loved once more. 💚 Did you know that you can practice for £8 drop-in, with our community pricing? And a dropin yoga class is still £14, which is the same price it has been for the last eight years. We have worked really hard to not increase our prices despite constantly working to improve the facilities, and maybe we don’t shout about that enough. We love the new mats. ⏄ Challenging our negative thought patterns nurtures a healthier mindset. A handy way to start this is keeping a Thought Journal. Instead of ruminating, jot down your thoughts and feelings. First it helps to purge, rather than internalise. Secondly, you can see if there are any recurring themes for you to explore when you’re feeling less activated. Invite yourself to look at this with curiosity. Then ask yourself: What’s the truth, lesson or opportunity here?
We’ve partnered up with @helmlondon to create an East of Eden signature scent, and you’ll find it throughout the studios as scented candles, room diffusers and as essential oils burning in our aromatherapy burners. Scent has an undeniable influence on mood, transporting us back to distant memories, making us feel relaxed, or energised for the day ahead.
