Today is a very exciting day in our household as our son attends the NASTA awards this evening . We shall be watching a live stream and cheering him on. We attended last month the showcase for parents. This event is purely for the universities . Not sure he'd appreciate his mama turning up and sobbing with pride. I did all that last month ! In other news, yesterday I completed the candle label design. Funnily enough the shape was the very last thing I thought I'd go for. I cannot wait to reveal all. Im currently burning my signature fragrance - and my tranquility in a burner both in the back room. As I come down the stairs the scents have filled the downstairs. In the same way I only buy vintage pieces id have in my own home, so to am I only going to market fragrances I want to light. Not every creation has been successful. In fact far from it. There have been plenty ive had to dispose off. This business has been over 18 mths in the making . We got to see our son run in a half marathon yesterday morning… He and his friend Daniel and @_katiedugger_ ran in the Publix St. Patricks Day Music City Half Marathon hosted by Magic Sports. It was run at Shelby Bottoms Park and the weather was perfect, 45-50 degrees!!! Nash came in 10th and ran 1:17:57(5:56 per mile), Daniel ran 1:19:35(6:02 per mile) and Katie finished in 2:00:45(9:12 per mile), They were all on course and did fabulous!! We were so proud!!! . I remember the day his kindergarten teacher called me and his dad in for a “meeting” to talk about her concerns with our son..... “I think your son has difficulty reading, she said. I think he has trouble with his words, and he refuses to read out loud to the class... she said... . As we sat there quietly listening to her “concerns”.. our heads spun in a fast forward 360 degree motion and we were completely stunned with what she was saying.... . We kindly nodded and then his dad preceded with “Well, have you ever asked him to read to you?” Have you ever sat down with him one on one and talked to him about this? ... her answer was “well, no”.... this was our response.. “Well you should have.“..... . You see, JT was always on the shy side growing up, I guess you could say more of an introvert like many of us are but JT was always watching, observing, learning with a mind that worked like a sponge. Tell him something or give him something to read and he remembers it. Period. Little did his teacher know by not really getting to know him before passing judgement is that JT was not only reading but reading well beyond his years! During that time he was reading novels like ‘Harry Potter’, and ‘Eragon’! . Today JT is preparing for his college graduation at Columbus State and has recently been named the recipient of the top graduate award in the General Business and Marketing Department. Words cannot describe how proud we are of him! He has always done very well in school and some might say it’s come ‘easy’ for him, but as parents we have seen the time and hard work he put in over the years and we are so full of joy and excitement to be able to witness all his efforts come to fruition. . I tell this story not only to offer him a well deserved Congratulations, but because as parents it’s our job to teach our children, to lead by example, and to give them the tools they need to be successful adults in this world. It is also our job to advocate for them along the way when needed and be their greatest support system, to give them the love, security and confidence they need to achieve that success ~ no matter what the obstacle may be. .
