Another back to back run! I guess Iโm in my โUp For A Challengeโ era ๐ 4 miles last night and 4.5 miles this morning on the Vermont heights rails to trails. The out and back to see the old rails was mercifully shaded and had beautiful spring flowers all along the path. Saw SO many butterflies and dragonflies but sadly wasnโt able to get pictures. Might not have been my fastest run ever, but it was really enjoyable. 6 years in the bank and more in love than ever before ๐ฅฐ๐งก๐ Despite some personal issues, this morning was immensely perfect! On one had I want to be proud of this run because I really only trained for 1 month. Yet on the other hand I want to forget it ever happened. This was supposed to be my race. I KNEW the course. I KNEW my capabilities and I KNEW I could do better. My mindset was to not let the last 5k kill me but instead the last 4 miles got me. I was doing so well but my mentality went down the drain at mile 9 and I couldnโt recover. Iโm beat up physically but mentally Iโm really hurt. Two miles. No music. Just me and my thoughts. . I havenโt posted abt running in a long time because I *havent* run in a long time. Iโve been feeling very apathetic over the past few weeks with just abt everything. And today is the first time in over a week that I got myself out there. . Todays run while short was very impactful. For the first time in the entirety of my running careerโI didnโt listen to music. And I found I really enjoyed the experience. I was slower, but I also felt it gave me some mental space I havenโt experienced before while running. . Because there was nothing else to distract meโI was forced to confront myself and my thoughts. Even though I was slower, my run felt amazing (and still negative splits!) why is it so hard for me to do the things I love? Even a short run is beneficialโฆso what is going on? And if Iโm honestโitโs because mentally Iโm just still not doing well. Iโm still struggling to pull myself out of the dark place I fell into September of last year, when part of my world came crashing down around me. Resigning from a (very brief) stint in the career I had longed for and believed to be my dream job for most of my life really crushed me. Itโs made me rethink myself and my life entirely. . Iโm still rebuilding myself. My foundation is shaky, but itโs there. I need to give myself the time and space to heal. I want to give myself the joy of the things I loveโlike runningโand make them a priority while I build a future that makes me happy. While the WDW Princess Half Marathon ended up being DNS (did not start) numero dos for me, I still had my heart set on achieving the PR (personal record) I had set for that race which was to run the first 6.2 miles in under 13 mins (โsub 13โ for my non runner friends). Reason for that is because from where I wouldโve been placed in my corral at WDW, I needed to keep my run pace at a โsub 13โ if I wanted to make it to Main Street USA/Cindyโs Castle before sunrise. (During the Half Marathon mile 5 is when youโre closing in on Magic Kingdom, hence my goal) I still wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, and I went into the BDR Orlando race with that PR on the back burner in my mind. My main focus was to HAVE FUN! ๐ฅณ By allowing myself to not overhype a race (which isnโt easy for me!) I was able to keep my adrenaline in control and I was all smiles come race day. I enjoyed every moment of this race and by doing so, ya girl brought home that PR in 75 mins flat! ๐ฅฒ 10K Sub 13 PR - UNLOCKED!๐ Thank you @bestdamnrace for always organizing a great event! Li'l Boba had his mind blown at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (central Colorado), one of the most stunning landscapes in the world. The Gunnison River has cut down through granite-hard, ancient (1.7 Billion year old) rock to create the steepest gorge in North America. 2,700 ft deep, and only 1,700 feet wide at its narrowest. The river (and other erosion processes) have sliced down though metamorphic rock to show almost two billion year of geology. The cracked, vertical, and spindle like formations are so alien, so close, and plunge so deep as to almost defy description and photography, as without familiar forms to provide perspective its practically impossible to grasp the scale and distances involved. To wrap your head around it, in some of the photos you can see a bit of blue-black-white twisting along the bottom of the canyon. That little streak is the far, far, far down, mighty Gunnison River! Added excitement....prolonged 50 mph wind gusts ๐ฌ at the super-exposed Pulpit Rock ๐ชจ [where you effectively walk out on a stone catwalk to hang over the cravasse] were so strong that Li'l Boba thought his camera would be blown out of his hand and down into the Gorge....or he might take a tumble himself.
