#granturismo Spot on this / Filmkritik 🧐 *Diesen Film habe ich auf Netflix gesehen.* Als man vor einiger Zeit hörte das Sony aus dem Rennspiel Simulator Gran Turismo einen Film machen wollte war man zunächst erstmal verwundert. Wie sollte man denn auch aus einem Arcade Rennspiel einen unterhaltsamen Blockbuster machen? Doch letztes Jahr kam der Film dann in die Kinos, dort habe ich es nicht geschafft mir in anzusehen nun habe ich das auf Netflix nachgeholt. Was ich nicht wusste und es für Sony leichter machte eine Story für denn Rennspiel Film zu haben, Anfang der 2010er Jahre hatte Sony mit Nissan genau das gemacht was man im Film sieht. Gamer gesucht die einen echten Rennwagen fahren können. So basiert der Film auf der wahren Geschichte des Rennfahrers Jann Mardenborough der auch für denn Film als Stuntdouble fungierte. Jedoch hat man das zeitlich in die Gegenwart geholt was man unter anderem durch das einbringen von Social Media merken konnte. Neben Orlando Bloom der dadurch mal wieder in einer bekannten Rolle als Marketing Manager von Nissan zu sehen ist sind auch mit Thomas Kretschmann und Maximilian Mundt zwei deutsche Schauspieler dabei. David Harbour als mürrischer Mentor ist dabei noch eine sympathische Figur des Films. Neill Blomkamp der mit dem Film "District 9" berühmt wurde führte hier die Regie. Das Jann die Hauptrolle im Film ist wird einem erzählerisch visuell schnell klargemacht da man ihn schon deutlich in denn Vordergrund stellt. Visuell verbindet man das Rennspiel mit der echten Welt in der man zum Beispiel in Schlüsselmomenten eine ideal Linie zeigt. Wo der Film doch einen holprigen Start hinlegt wird es zunehmend dann immer spannender und man fiebert schließlich mit ob Jann das Ziel für das nächste Rennen schafft. Für alle Rennspiel Fans ist der Film damit genau das richtige die sich auch mal vorgestellt haben ein echtes Rennen zu fahren. Ich gebe dem Film 7/10 Punkten. Movie Review - Gran Turismo is an easy to digest sports drama. It’s like a routine dish made by a chef who has a well used and sure method for producing a satisfactory meal. But it’s a meal I’ve had a bit too many times. In other words, Grand Turismo is a well made and familiar movie that’s easy to enjoy, but it isn’t going to wow many people. The fact that it’s based on a true story is a big plus because in the end, you realize it’s a story worth telling in this format. I’m no sports guy, so this whole story was brand new information for me, and I found it very interesting. I liked the cast. They do a good job despite playing characters I feel like I’ve seen a few times before. While I was never enthralled, I was always invested in the story. When I first watched the trailer for this movie, I thought it was one of the most ridiculous concepts I had ever heard, until I discovered it was based on a true story. Personally, I had never heard of GT Academy, and I don't really follow professional racing. I went into this movie thinking I was going to get a goofy racing film with over-the-top special effects and a mediocre plot. However, while it does feature over-the-top special effects, this movie was an absolute joy and very entertaining. While the story isn’t paced fast enough to keep up with a Ferrari, it still makes it across the finishing line! The story isn’t too exciting as the pacing requires patience, but the patience is paid off with a fantastic cast that carries the story. They go into basics of ensuring the company’s future with racing and manufacturing, while Ferrari himself goes through personal dramas as well. The film also includes great cinematography shots of the racing and scenery, but it also features graphic injury detail that’s a lot more full on then expected which really shows the dangers of racing in that time period. Adam Driver was great as Ferrari he express’s Enzo’s personality so naturally along side Penélope Cruz’s nicely done performance. Can’t say the same for Shailene Woodley however as her acting was good, but her accent goes too American in some scenes. Another classic racing movie. The actual races are exciting and very well filmed, but they are interspersed with cheesy and dull romantic sequences with no dramatic progression. The story is told through an ensemble cast, but the performances are very uneven. Only Yves Montand gives some gravitas to his role. In the end, at 179 minutes, the movie feels overlong and not particularly engaging, except for the racing sequences. This movie clearly feels like one big advert - but honestly it’s a big advert I enjoyed. Based off a video game, but also not really because it’s based off a true story from gamer to racer. (heard that tagline enough for one lifetime) The film can feel a bit thinly drawn at times with a bit of a cookie cutter formula and slightly two dimension characters - especially the love interest, but what can I say, I like cookies. I got caught up in this sort of rags to riches underdog story, and a fairly solid racing movie. Orlando Bloom does feel a bit out of place though he tries his best, David Harbour is great though as the hard ass trainer. Geri Halliwell is also weirdly in this? Dunno why. Nothing that will rock your world but I can deny I had a good time. 7/10

Gran Turismo (2023) My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 This film turned out to be better than I expected. Showing the stigma of being a gamer, and the way people look down on it as compared to other “real careers”. I loved how some of the shots during races resembling actual game camera angles and shots. Performances were very strong! Djimon Hounsou really sold every scene he was in and brought it home when he had the scene at Le Mans. Easily one of my favorite racing films! Favorite Part: The talk Jann had with his dad at Le Mans. Least Favorite Part: Orlando Bloom. He did not do bad at all and he’s important to the story. But I liked him the least amount.
