The new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort… it’s the talk of the town today! 🌴 🌺 🌴 🌺 🌴 🌺 🌴 🌺 🌴 🌺 🌴 🌺 🌴 🌺 🌴 • Boy has the Disney World fanbase been keeping a close eye on this project! And with every update online, I’ve found that there’s an array of negative feedback that follows….. every step of the way. Much of the negativity seems to stem from the overall appearance of the building and/or the bemoaning of the Luau as a sacrificial lamb for the new addition. Although the negativity seems prominent in the comment sections, I actually believe it’s a sort of “loud minority”, and I disagree with the sentiment. Tbf, I tend to lean on a much more positive outlook whenever it comes to WDW updates and changes. I think that mainly comes from an excitement to simply see and experience something new. But in this particular case, here’s what I like about this concept Disney has shared. Many are complaining about the tower but I think the ironic part is that a tower like this was part of the original concept for the Polynesian, and this building pays an homage to that idea. The concept art looks like a hotel you’d find in Honolulu, and that’s much of the point. Just as important, and perhaps even more important, Island Tower will offer additional DVC room types besides the studios and the bungalows currently on offer, and that is something that this resort desperately needed. For those who feel it looks nothing like the rest of the Poly, as far as we can tell, yeah, that seems to be the case. Although I enjoy the thematic diversity within a resort, it gives the tower a bit of its own identity. Much like Gran Destino within Coronado. If you’re not a fan of that, then I’d imagine you probably won’t be a huge fan of this one. But we’ll see what it looks like when it’s actually all completed. 📸 3-5: @disneyparks & @waltdisneyimagineering Estimated to open December of 2024…… let’s see what the end of the year brings. The breakFast and the Curious. I’ve been revisiting some Walt Disney World classics recently and checked out ‘Ohana’s popular character breakfast! How does it hold up? Well, it’s a fun, but uneven, experience and your enjoyment will probably depend on your expectations going in. I had a lovely time, but it’s good to be mindful of a couple things. Quick thoughts: - It doesn’t always make a great first impression. ‘Ohana is in busy area, by a main walkway, bathroom, and stairs, so it can be chaotic at peak times. - Some tables are in much better spots than others. I was in the back by the kitchen door, but service was great and I still had a ton of character interaction which offset the obstructed view and noise. - Cast members are super nice! They know it’s a special place for guests and that you’re there to eat as well as make great memories. Now for the food. You can choose between the standard ‘Ohana Breakfast Skillet or Plant-based Breakfast. I got both at $49 each. How are they? Kinda average, honestly. Nothing is bad, and every seating will experience varying levels of freshness/consistency, but the food is comparable to a decent buffet. Definitely not worth $49 per person on its own, BUT, ‘Ohana is about more than eating which balances out the investment. 😊 A realistic way to think of it is that you’re paying for a REALLY GOOD meet and greet, with some okay breakfast food as a bonus while you’re taking in cozy vibes. The opportunity to beat long character lines and have a much more personal experience than in the parks (while getting some necessary fuel for the day) can be a huge win. Also, the pure joy of having Mickey and friends drop by your morning table is singular Disney magic. It didn’t really matter what I was eating at the time because I was just happy. It’s hard to assign a value to that, you know? There’s better and more affordable breakfasts at WDW, but this is still a very welcome experience if it fits your budget and mindset. Hotel: Polynesian! Incredible resort that was a total vibe. We had a 3rd floor water view room. Enjoyed watching the castle and fireworks from our balcony. Loved the resort, pool, and overall theme. Only downside was crowding from non-resort guests.
