Had some time today to get outside so I decided to go for a hike! Went to Streaked Mountain, which is located out towards the Buckfield, Paris, and Hebron region. A shorter hike but a quick ascent of terrain which was fun. Location: South Paris/Hebron/Buckfield Hike style: Small mountain (1750 ft) Terrain: Rock ledges primarily Sights: lookouts of nearby hills/peaks on a sunny day. Communication towers at the top. Length: 1.2 miles total Takeaways: short but moderately intense hike. They say it takes a village … to give your Irish wolfhound her summer cut with a rocking mohawk! I know Phil is super proud since him & I gave Ida a mohawk the 1st summer we were together, but it looked wonky since we had to shave her butt since it got really dreaded up 😅 Thankfully this time it was a great success! 🙏🏼🙌🏽🎉🍀🐺🪒🪮💕✨ Ida did really well with all of the grooming today. No whining at all! She got lots of love from @fractal.fern.creations mom @silspike during the outside spa session. Everyone took a turn shaving off her double winter coat & letting Ida do her infamous lean onto ya. Of course, Aunt Jen took the lead in shaping Ida’s mohawk + overall haircut, which is why it came out so punk rock lol. As my favorite tarot reader Chris Reck @minnowpondtarot says, team work makes the dream work & you’re crazy if you’re not working on #a team right now in some fashion. Last night was a special night for our downtown - @thewoodsmaineshop opened the doors at their new location! If you’ve been to the original spot, get ready for even more goodies, Maine made gifts, home wares, The Woods apparel. It is such a great stop for gifts - each item thoughtfully chosen and the whole store is a curated masterpiece. Fiona, Mom and I loved shopping around, and also had my first tour of the @norway_maine_opera_house! (Swipe to see it at the end!) This project is huge, restoring an 1897 theatre to someday bring music, shows and more back to the stage in downtown Norway. Small crew today (just @frogprince51 & myself) but we managed to pull quite a bit of trash out of Bird Brook between Mill Street & Main Street. It's a pretty short stretch, but we found lots of broken glass, plastic bags, cups, & lids, & a bunch of bottles & cans as usual. Parts of the western bank are densely studded with leather cutouts, presumably from a shoe manufacturer or the factory that gave Tannery Street its name. Not sure what to do about that, as that may be outside of the scope of a couple people with buckets and a tarp, but we'll be contacting the town to see what they think should be done. It was another beautiful spring day in Magical Maine & we took advantage of it in working around our fairy stump + garden. Mikey Z shows off his beast skills in digging up and moving a small boulder near the beginning of our rock wall. It’s mostly comprised of rocks we’ve found on the property, along with some chunks of smokey quartz, feldspar + garnet we’ve rockhounded. Thanks to @fractal.fern.creations digging holes, we planted 3 colors of creeping phlox + tiger lily violets. It’s been 3 years since we said goodbye to our Founder in Spirit + @erinplace late partner, Phil. He was our first mentor + he taught us as much as he could about cutting + polishing stones before he passed away from lung cancer 04/24/21. As we are wont to say, Mikey Z is a crafty critter and he constructed that carving station, complete with nebulizer tubing for the water drip, so Phil could work stone again before he died. At this point, he wasn’t able to make it down or up our serious set of stairs. He carved a jade pipe + enjoyed it quite a few times. We are grateful for all Phil has taught us + gifted us over the years. He’s still helping us from other side & letting us know he’s still visits the homestead on the regular. The Universe agreed with planting seeds in our fairy stump out in front of our homestead, along with planting daffodil bulbs. See that beautiful ray of light shining along side Jen as she recreates a living stump with flowing flowers? Yeah, our adopted nephew Evan captured that + some more photos of our outside time today. Mikey Z + @fractal.fern.creations did a number of tasks, including cleaning up around the stump, digging a hole for the bulbs & much more, which u won’t bore you with! @erinplace was happy to plant daffodils after her 4th year of living here.
