Last of the veggies in the fridge. Carrot, chow chow, beetroot Kuzhambu, left over rasam, beetroot thoran, beans thoran. On the work front, we are trying to increase our production capacity. Got a new roasting machine for roasting of our spices and a packing machine. Packing machine installation has some glitches, the other one is ok. Praying this gets fixed soon. Am planning to go home to vdky on a short trip Tomm. Was supposed to go today, but got delayed. Just missing my mom terribly, and just need to go see her and come before school starts. Woke up earlier than usual today, thanks to Maple. Following someone’s ( sorry, not very good at remembering names unless I know someone in person), changed the dogs’ evening walk timing to 8 pm. They have been sleeping better and so have I. So thank you for that. Maple has a skin rash under his neck and looks like it’s bothering him internally too a bit. He gets a bit clingy when unwell. Last night, he was restless and moving around on the bed a lot. He came to me and kept scratching his neck. Yesterday morning, I had tried applying @lalita_bathandbodycare herbal hair oil on his neck and a good amount of turneric. That seemed to soothe him. My remedy for almost everything is coconut oil and turmeric. So got up and applied that again. He stopped scratching and went back to sleep. But my sleep was gone. I have a lot of nachu paper work to finish. Decided might as well try and finish cooking early and get to it. Rani will be back only tomm. Menu is radish sambar, manathakali keerai koottu, baby potato roast and left over rasam. Thankfully, Dorai had done the greens yesterday. Husband will peel the potatoes. Daughter has been asking for arachuvitta sambar recently. So roasted the spices for that. If I had stocks of @mylaporekitchens arachuvitta sambar podi, I could saved that bit of time ! I have brought home 2 new things for trial. One is herbal hair colour for @lalita_bathandbodycare and dry green chutney for bhel. Menu is milagu Kuzhambu with @mylaporekitchens milagu Kuzhambu powder ( I am telling you, this works better than freshly roasted and ground paste), I’ll add Chundakkai and manathakkali as well to it. Rasam in eeya chombu. Eeyam is tin. Not lead. So as long as you make sure you get pure eeyam it is safe. And eeya chombu rasam has such a delicate flavour. Beams thoran. Husband is yet to cut that. And have brinjal kari and Keerai thoran from yesterday. There was a small piece of cabbage. So doing a poricha Kuzhambu with that. That’s actually a kootu, but my in-laws call it poricha Kuzhambu. Yesterday I had been to Egmore for some bank related work. Went to the Pazhamudir there as well. Bought these wonderful bunches of greens - calla tea I, ponnankanni and manathakkali. So next 3 days, greens on the menu. Plucking them is a task, but still worth the effort. We got some imampasand as well, I am yet to taste it. Husband had one and said it was better than earlier lots that we bought. Menu today is Vallarai Keerai thoran (Botanical name of vallarai keerai is centella asiatica. Vallarai keerai in English - centella and gotu kola. It is also called as Asiatic pennywort or Indian pennywort), cabbage thoran, chakkai erisseri, pumpkin arachuvitta sambar and a rasam. 3 veggies because the greens won’t be sufficient to send to in-laws. Even though it looks like a lot now, it’ll reduce considerably on cooking. For lunch, dosa for me with molaga podi, black rice kanji for husband and quesadillas for daughter. This week is going to be hectic. We are still looking to hire more people. Mother’s Day today. I don’t give this any special significance, but then I also think no harm in acknowledging all that mommies do. We will come to that later. Another post maybe. But let me wish all moms happiness today. Menu today is all of kids’ favourites. Adults’ too. Small onion sambar, garlic rasam, potato Kaara kari, salad ( yet to cut) and garlic Oma podi vadam from @mylaporekitchens . Have booked for avesham today. Yup. I know it’s on OTT, but we can watch it together only at the theatre. And it’s fun to do that. Since I have booked the lunch time show, the snacks we will have there will be lunch. Oru kal, 2 maanga taken care of 😃! Dinner will be left overs. Kids asked me what the Sunday plan was. I said, eat, movie, eat, come back, eat, sleep. They said that sounds perfect 👌🏾! Spinach Berry Salad with Creamy Balsamic Dressing* topped with air fryer crispy chicken 2. Taco Salad (ground beef seasoned with our homemade taco seasoning)* 3. Sausage and pepper zucchini boats* with rice 4. Fish tacos with chili lime slaw 5. Homemade Mac and cheese with ham and peas* We usually eat leftovers (or very occasionally go out to eat) the other nights of the week. Many of these dinners also make great leftovers for lunch. Akshaya Tritiya today. Started the day with a donation to @dakshinvrindavan . Not saying this here to brag, just to create an awareness of organisations like @dakshinvrindavan and @besantmemorialanimaldispensary and people like @thejaswini.rangan who do a lot for animals. We got promises of 2 bags of food for thejaswini’s shelter. Thank you for that. In continuation of my post yesterday, I request you to all consider doing a small donation to any charity of your choice today. Akshaya tritiya is a very auspicious day and let us use that to help our fellow living beings in anyway we can. My Appa used to say that a portion of our earning must always be kept aside for charity. Menu today is - cauliflower kari ( I have soaked it in hot water with a bit of turmeric to remove any impurities), beetroot & carrot Kuzhambu ( daughter asked for beetroot again), chow chow ( chayote squash) thogayal because I love rice and thogayal, kovakkai roast. Kovakkai is ivy gourd. Kovakkai thoran is also quite tasty, if you want a low oil option. For lunch, I am thinking Dosai and tomato chutney. Fridge is almost empty. Must order veggies today. Slept well. Plu has become adorable. He always was. But he has become even sweeter now. Likes to hang around with us more these days. Sleeps right next to me and gets anxious if I change my sleeping position. Poor kid. Just as I feel secure with all them around me, they too feel the same. Velan is just like Pluto. Not Plu. Pluto. The first thing that Pluto used to do on waking up is put his head on my shoulder. Give me a quick lick and then move. That’s what I missed most after he died. That and the sound of his paws on our floor. Makes my cry even now if I think about it. Velan does that. He puts his face on me when he senses that I am awake. Doesn’t lick me like Pluto. But this is the closest I have to what I lost. And I am grateful for that. Grateful for these little things. Menu today is chow chow & bajji molaga sambar, tomato juice ( I’ll post details separately), cabbage thoran and an andhra style mango thokku that I saw a video of on insta. I’ll post and tag the original video creator as well separately. Since I have too much of tomatoes in the fridge, it’ll be tomato rice for lunch. Husband has stopped eating lunch and has some porridge. But he will have this for dinner.
