If a person would receive Lemba, first they must suffer an affliction, for Lemba manifests itself in his body by making it ill. Then they must send a boy with chicken and wine to the Lemba priest. Deviations (mvengomono) are found in all aspects of life. Their understanding is important because they can tell what we have become. They can pinpoint who is or has become dangerous in the social body. One must understand that deviations are, at once, symptoms and trends. As symptoms, they can tell, not only about the state of people’s self-healing power, but about their mind as well. As trends, on the other hand, they can tell where a specific individual, society, or the world in general is being led. Deviations are keys to world problems today. Through deviations man is creating most of his problems, such as pollution. For many it is not easy to see and understand that they are on the edge of deviation. So are groups, societies, and even governments. But maybe this might help—let’s say that if what we do or make creates fear in us and around us, it then probably is an act of deviation. Deviation from certain traditions not only hurts ethically, physically, and spiritually; it cuts us off from our unique genetic key of life: our individual self-healing power. Democratic systems are becoming more and more undemocratic, especially toward young nations—Christian values are gone; collective societies are becoming individualistic; humanistic values are yielding to terroristic behaviors—all these are fundamental deviations that affect not only the world’s balance, but individual health and self-healing power as well, a unique and freely given power, genetically passed down by parents who can warrant the strength only at the moment of conception.
