Here's all the 'finished' pieces together, it's an installation piece so much better seen in person as a journey of steps but I tried to fit it into one photo lol. If I had more time I would have definitely kept going and adding layers but that's the problem with deadlines! Some more work on the plinth that actually got flipped and turned into a step to keep to the theme of stepping stones and boots being used to... Ya guessed it... STEP! First I put a layer of paint over it in the style of Callum Innes unpainting technique and then made a stencil out of my own handwriting that I used for the poem to add letter forms! #installationpiece #fineartstudent #artuni

The most silly project I've ever made... I am a wide-eyed scared chicken. buk buk buk ba-KAW 🐔 (I probably spelt that wrong) This is my first attempt at creating an installation piece, and I think it turned out pretty good ig! This project helped me get out of my art block where I was creating the same scene in different ways and it also helped me further develop the chicken motif as a character that represents who I am now... Another look at the lead ingots made last summer with some ideas for showcasing both the raw lead and the resulting objects made from molds. I’ve changed my mind often on what form I hope for the sculptures to be resolved in. I have an additional proof of concept made using various furniture sizes of lead type in a geometric layout which suits the “production” element of the work quite nicely. Ok, after lots of thought and chatting to a few different people, I've decided to do the #100dayproject2024 but instead of working towards an exhibition. I'm going to work towards a large installation piece. I have never done anything like this before, and I don't know if I can even do it. But I'm going to give it a try, and I also don't know where I'll even store it. Who knows!!! I'm just going to dive in head first and see where it takes me. The project I have in my mind has been sitting inside my brain for, I think, just over two years. I'll work on it each day for an hour or two. Okay can we pretend it’s Christmas again for just a minute…. Next in the series of pictures of me standing next to big things I’ve made.. here is an absolutely massive yarn bombed tree in Cabot Circus, Bristol for Aardman, inspired by Babs from Chicken Run (aka me in chicken form) 7 consistent days of knitting, countless balls of yarn and one morning spent up a cherry picker later and this piece was ready to hatch! This piece is one large panel measuring 5m x 5.5m and hand sewn in place. The five year collection vortex, version 2 Some assemblages of my scraps from last semester. Since I collect so many materials and scraps I decided to do a temporary installation of a vortex with the scraps I’ve collected over my college career. All of the pieces were placed and balanced which was challenging but something I really enjoyed figuring out how to balance all the pieces and basically making my own puzzle. I’d like to try and do another piece like this in the future, possibly a version 3. It took me somewhere around 40-50 hrs to complete arranging and it was up for about two weeks. It was incredibly tedious and I documented a lot of the process through Timelapse,last two slides. Many people walked by and spoke to me while assembling which made the piece so much more about the process and involved the viewer, since it was in a high foot traffic area. Glass House 🏠 Mixed media: popsicle sticks, recycled tissue paper from gifts and a flower bouquet, black acrylic paint, black chalk pastel. I became intrigued with the use of tissue/textured paper as windows when I made Little Black House and how the light passing through the colored paper transformed the room, so I decided to make a piece with tissue paper where the paper serves as stained glass. I only used 4 different colors of paper and overlapped them where the different walls of the house overlap creating other colors as the light passes through. It’s also fun to look at this from different angles as I show in this post. I also used materials I already had and materials accessible to everyone so everyone can make something like this! This is one of my favorite pieces from this past semester. thought id share some work from high school as well since i never actually did x) This was an installation + poem piece, the skull was boght from a dollar store and repainted, which is a shame, because I was trying really hard to source a real sheep/deer skull but just couldnt. Kaleidoscope House 🏠 Immersive installation piece for my experimental drawing and painting class. In this post I show the outside of Dream House, more posts to come showing the inside, detail pics, and detail videos. Media used: cardboard, acrylic paint, chalk pastel, fabric, ribbon, button, paper, felt, beads, pillow, etc. and sound from a wind chime recording on a windy Denton day (posting sound on video post). The work offers visitors a place to kneel and follow the directive of a neon sign on the wall that reads: “I’ve composed a new American national anthem: take a knee and scream until you can’t breathe.” The work creates an intersectional space for catharsis; to mourn the loss of lives, freedoms and safety for people and Lands subjected to American violence, and to protest continuing oppression. The neon sign embodies capitalism, its text a pointed reference to the murders of Eric Garner, George Floyd, Tyre Nichols and all people of color who have been murdered at the hands of police and agents of the American state. Asking participants to take a knee is a position of deference turned refusal; to scream until you can’t breathe encompasses protest aimed at tearing down the systems built to enforce Whiteness, White privilege, heteropatriarchy and capitalist control. 🌟Exciting news!!!🌟 Me and @lucysmithwriter have been chosen to create art for a large scale installation in @galericaernarfon later this year!! We're so excited to get stuck into this project: we're continuing on from ideas that seeded in our 2021 @the.shiro.project, and combining writing and ceramic sculpture to create something even bigger, bolder and more experimental for both our practices as artists. Our installation will explore fungi and queerness, and the themes of transformation, exploration and finding new ways to connect These pics show our first tests on our way into this project, playing with incorporating writing on the clay. As we go forward, we want to explore how clay and 3D art forms can collide with creative writing in new ways that push both our comfort zones as artists. Lenapehoking, the Land of the Lenape - Brooklyn 🪶 We are thrilled to announce Nicholas Galanin will be participating in Public Art Fund’s 2023 spring and summer exhibition program! Shown here is @nicholasgalanin with @nicholasbaume at the installation site. Based in Sitka, Alaska, Nicholas Galanin centers Indigeneity as fundamental to questioning border walls built to restrict access impacting all living things. In his installation piece, “In every language there is Land / En cada lengua hay una Tierra ,” is a monumental 30-foot tall corten steel sculpture, created using the same material and scale as the current US/Mexico border wall. Galanin’s sculpture focuses on Land as the foundation and source of Indigenous practices of mutual sustainability. Through the work’s form Galanin references the use of bold text in Pop art. At the same time, rather than celebrating mass media, he implicates it in the marketing of nationalism. Galanin’s work invites viewers to reflect on the consequences of enforced exclusion that divides peoples and Land for extractive purposes. “In every language there is Land / En cada lengua hay una Tierra” speaks to a reduction, and enforced limitation, on relationships with Land across generations, cultures, and communities. “In every language there is Land / En cada lengua hay una Tierra” will be on view May 16th at the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Empire Fulton Ferry Lawn.
