Absolutely killed the @great_run - first under 1 hour 10k and half marathon PB probably because I went out there with no pressure and just enjoyed it! Managed to avoid the rain until right at the end too. So here we are - one week later. These are the last ones I have of the day including the ones from the @teenage_cancer base at the end which were emailed over this week. The TCT guys were amazing from start to finish with all the info and support they provided and it was a privilege to run for them and raise so much money while undergoing my biggest personal achievement! The last of my official pics (decent ones anyway 😂) - the crowds around the Cutty Sark and a Big Ben were amazing - especially Big Ben, as the racers got less packed together and you were out on your own for the last few miles there was so many more people shouting out my name and cheering you on. All those people doing that are so special and hope they understand what a boost they are to the runners! I’ve woken up early this morning still on cloud nine after yesterday! Head is buzzing thinking about what I achieved and how to put the experience into words. I tried to film going past each mile marker and maybe you can get a sense of the atmosphere and the crowd but I’ve never experienced such a positive wave of energy not just between the runners where we would all push each other on if you saw someone struggling but with the crowd who would cheer your name and tell you to push on! They would be playing music and blowing horns and cheering and handing out jelly babies. Holding up signs (I powered up on a lot of super Mario mushrooms - they were my favourite naturally) and then there would be choirs, singers, brass bands, drag queens, steel drums, DJs - every time you started to flag something picked you up and I don’t think I’d of managed to finish with out it! As around 21 miles I really hit the wall, I started to feel really sick and just couldn’t shake it off. I think realising I’d never ran this far before and maybe drank too much and I really struggled from that point and started to walk/run - this is when the crowd really helped. So many people shouting my name and telling me to carry on and that I was almost there is making me slightly teary now as well thinking about it and I could of cried several times at this point with all the support! The last mile once you are heading towards the palace is electric - I saw a sign saying 600m to go and started to run right until the end - everyone cheering as I crossed the line and that feeling was amazing and I’ll never forget the girl who but my medal and told me I should be so proud! I am and always will! Today was 1st run of my 18-week marathon training program for the San Francisco [Full] Marathon. Strava glitched, but I took it nice and slow, especially since I ran a half marathon 2 days ago (lol). 3 training goals: (1) Not doing more mileage than prescribed. Last 6 marathons, had tendency to feel guilty about running less than 5-7 miles. Not this time. (2) Slowing it down. No marathoner listening to science should EVER be running ‘race pace’ on more than 20% of their training runs. It’s just science. Will suck at this less this time around, lol. (3) Actually doing most of my training runs, lol. In past, have generally only done 30-50% of my training runs. Goal this time is to do 95% or greater. Birthday week over and thank you all the love. Friday night was 30 days until marathon day and took that to have a bit of a blow out before the big day which means I was in no fit state for a long run today and I kind of regret it now. But now it’s time to get fully serious - no more messing about - no alcohol, good eating and self care. This journey has been incredible and I’ve learnt a lot about myself and what I can achieve and thank you all again for all the support as I head into the last leg of this amazing experience! I couldn’t of done it without all your encouragement! Still managed a good 5k today though so small wins! To everyone who has sponsored me so far, I can’t tell you what it means to me. To be able to give back to a charity supporting people going through the cancer journey the main reason for doing this.
