This year, I actively chose NOT to participate in the #RBCBROOKLYNHALF2024 and instead wanted to be part of the community in a different way. I cheered just before mile 11 with @runforchinatown after chauffeuring my husband @jacky.runs.a.marathon to the start and running an empty course with @joyogini before the elites came stampeding behind us. I had SO much fun cheering for all my friends and run-family who ran, caught some videos of some IG friends I've made over the years... and even caught a 3 second clip of @seriousrunner *fangirl* as he jetted by. I spent the rest of the post race weekend celebrating 🍾 with @tracksmithrunning stamping finisher posters with @pika.ju_ at the NYC Trackhouse. Having an incredibly good time with @tabslii to the start. 🐻❄️ 🫶🏻. Today started off a lil crowded.Tight start, my pacer @richardvahlhaus almost fell cause someone behind couldn’t control his legs, also didn’t he had anywhere to go.🫣 Both pacers did a superb job. Thank you!! I got cramps and overheated. I soonish figured out I can’t hold that pace another 22km so I dropped out. 🙌🏼 I didn’t want to be picked up somewhere later during the race. So what did I do? I listend to my body and stopped.(so hard) Just like that.(I did have a mental fight with myself) The rest of the day I supported the runners with my friend @stefaniedoebler and took a rest. My heart is full 🥹they call it a comeback for a reason. For 3 months I have been rehabbing an injury. And for 3 months I have missed seeing so many of these teammates faces. And for 3 months I didn’t know if I would be at this race even though it had been on my calendar since last year. I have been diligent, as patient as a runner can be when dealing with injury, and all in with the PT work. I have cried, been frustrated, vulnerable, determined, open minded, focused, fearful, and so many other feelings. But one thing I didn’t lose was my love of running. I knew taking a step back to try and heal and get answers would be best. It was hard, but necessary. I will continue my PT and strength training. I will continue to advocate for myself and take the necessary time I need after certain efforts. Today was not about a certain time it was about seeing where I’m at, listening to my body, and having fun! I enjoyed every single minute of this race 🥰To be on the roads again with teammates,Dan and friends. To run the beautiful bridge and keep the traditions alive. To take every moment in and bottle it up because every run is something to be proud of. I am proud of the effort I gave and the growth I’ve made when it comes to listening to my body. I will remind myself often of how good the comeback feels when things are tough. The Selma to Montgomery Relay was everything! This year, we decided to build a team of women that we knew would give their all and support each other until the end. Our team did just that!
