Feijoa flowers. Also known as Pineapple Guava. Our multi-grafted bushy tree is now covered with these edible flowers and soon to be yummy fruits. I've been a busy bee using a fluffy make-up brush to gather and transfer pollen between the blooms. Think Kiwi with the sweet tartness of Pineapple, a tropical hint of Guava and the echo of a Pear's grainy texture. When are they ripe? When they fall to the ground! Did you know that the four plump candy cane colored flower petals are edible ? Not just "edible", but sweet and perfumed in a vaguely tropical way. I've got several varieties grafted onto this large bush / small under-story tree. The base is Coolidge. I've grafted on to it Mark Albert's Abadaba and Albert's Supreme. Four years ago it finally flowered, albeit sparsely, for the very first time after being in the ground for six or seven years but set no fruit. Three years ago there were several nice clusters of flowers but the few fruits which set did not plump up. What a fun day in Auckland! The culmination and end, for now, of my Feijoa publicity run — my lunchtime session with @chefpetergordon kicked off the Auckland Writer’s Festival programme today. I was a bit nervous this time, but I shouldn’t have worried - it was wonderful. We had the most delicious Feijoa dessert, created by this @origine.nz chef, and Peter and I interviewed each other about the history and meanings of our shared fave fruit. He’s been such a great supporter of this book! Feijoa season has got us seriously in the mood for this Feijoa Sour mocktail! 😘 Ingredients 🍋 50ml @seedlipdrinks Garden 108 20ml Lemon Juice 25ml Six Barrel Feijoa Syrup 25ml Egg Whites (or aquafaba if vegan) Ice cubes Method 🍸️ Add all ingredients into a shaker. Dry shake (without ice). Open the shaker – you should see a foamy head (if not, shake a bit more). Now add a good amount of ice. Shake once more, vigorously. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with rose petals or buds. 🌹 Too easy! 😎

Nos estuvieron pidiendo más recetas saludables así que hoy les traemos unos… ✨ Muffins de Guayabo ✨ (versión saludable), ¡ideal para los peques de la casa! ¡Vamos con la receta! 👩🏻🍳🍈 Ingredientes: 2 tazas guayabos 1 1/2 tazas harina integral 1/2 taza harina de avena 1/2 taza miel (ajusta la cantidad según tu preferencia de dulzura) 1 cdta. polvo de hornear 1/2 cdta. bicarbonato de sodio 1/4 cdta. sal 2 huevos 1/4 taza aceite de coco derretido 1/2 taza leche 1 cdta. extracto de vainilla Procedimiento: 1. Precalentar el horno a 180°C 2. En un bowl, colocar los guayabos y usar un tenedor para aplastar los guayabos hasta obtener una consistencia de puré. 3. Agregar los huevos al puré de guayabo y batir bien hasta que estén bien incorporados. 4. Agregar la miel, el aceite de coco derretido, la leche y el extracto de vainilla al puré de guayabo y mezclar bien. 5. En otro bowl, mezclar las harinas, el polvo de hornear, el bicarbonato de sodio y la sal. 6. Incorporar gradualmente la mezcla de ingredientes secos a la mezcla de guayabo, revolviendo suavemente hasta que estén bien combinados. 7. Verter la masa en los moldes para muffins, llenando cada cavidad hasta aproximadamente 3/4 de su capacidad. 8. Hornear en el horno precalentado durante unos 20-25 minutos, o hasta que los muffins estén doraditos. 9.
