Sewing a bookmark! Audiobook: The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black. I’ve been enjoying sewing bookmarks from fabric scraps. This one is made from a scrap of a linen tablecloth that likely belonged to my great grandmother that I dyed with coffee last year. The hand dyed lace is from an Etsy shop called sweetinspirations. The process was fairly simple though the fabric was eager to shred at the edges which made it a little more difficult than usual to wrap the felt & cardboard rectangles with the outer fabric. You can also see the bookmark I made using scraps from my favorite hand sewn skirt and a scrap of woven bird ribbon I love. They both came out exactly as I hoped so I’m really pleased. As for The Queen of Nothing — I really enjoyed it. I’d love The Cruel Prince and then said I’d felt let down by the end of The Wicked King. But I was wrong, it all works together as a trilogy & I’m a fan. I love completeness of this world and these characters. Image ID: 1. WHO knew what fun you could have with a laminator?! Whenever I tag along on Melissa’s fabric buying excursions, I’m usually busy interrupting her own perusing, calling her over to look at something I like. And, there’s usually a lot. Almost always, it’s something with a vintage feel to it. One of the problems is, even with those little fat quarters that they sell, there’s not always anything to DO with it. After all, we only have ONE window in the kitchen, not enough for the forty vintage prints we love for new curtains. Then, I had a BRILLIANT idea (I am sure many others have thought of it, but don’t burst my crafty bubble)…. Cut the fabric to size, use some spray adhesive to affix it to heavy paper - maybe a coordinating card stock - cut the paper/fabric combo out and then LAMINATE! Presto change-o you’ve got bookmarks! One could do the same thing with great vintage wallpaper or wrapping paper, too. These bookmarks are for some little literary tots. I don’t know if I’ve ever posted a craft idea here, but now you can better see what takes up a Saturday at our house. We’re both bustling around making things, glad for the warm, cozy house with the torrential rain coming down outside.
