This is already so extra that I’m thinking of going further and adding dots in the 9-patch setting triangles. (They’re white paper dots at the moment—I was playing with size.) So the question for all you appliquérs , or anyone else who wants to venture an opinion, is whether I can appliqué a dot on every setting triangle without significantly distorting the column width. I’ve already trimmed them to the width I want. Every quilt has a story, and this one is definitely no different. I started this quilt, Sunny Lanes, from Pat Speth's Nickel Quilts book, many years ago (early on in my quilting journey). It got put away for several years, and the top was completed a few years later. Fast forward to 2022. I had a 9" hand-guided Husqvarna Viking Mega Quilter on a 10-foot frame that I was using to quilt for others (purchased in 2010), and decided to finally quilt my Sunny Lanes for myself. There was, however, one thing that I hadn't taken into consideration: this quilt, at just under 98 inches square, was a bit too large to successfully quilt with my small machine. I got about 3/4 of the way done before realizing that it was going to have to come off the frame, and all of the quilting was going to have to be removed. I spent hours skinning the quilt, and then let it sit in timeout for quite awhile. Since it had been skinned, it was full of thread pieces that had to be removed. Instead of attempting to remove them before loading the quilt, I waited until it was loaded. I then used a dish washing glove, rubbed it across the quilt top, row by row before quilting, and removed all of the loose thread pieces. It was a bit of a chore, but Sunny Lanes is now quilted and ready for binding. How sweet is this quilt 😍. Lots of pastel coloured fabrics with floral prints and all it needed was some dainty daisies to bind it together. The pattern is by Jen Kingwell called Bonnie Lass. It's from her book "Quilt Lovely". Don't you just love the way we name our quilts! It's certainly better than calling them by their colours ie, the blue one. This pattern is an easy and brilliant way of using up all your scraps. Just choose a theme or colourway and blend them all together. This was made by my MIL Jacqui and I believe she has started another using Christmas themed fabrics. Love at first sight … 💕 I don’t know if you can see the sheen in this beige fabric from Kona, except in pic. 2. It’s gorgeous with these Tilda florals, leftovers from a bundle I used in a secret sewing project. 🤫 And here I am, making another foundation paper project (something I used to pooh-pooh because I didn’t understand it 🙄). This “economy block” FPP was free online. Just had to get them photocopied at a local office supply store (gawd I miss access to a xerox machine at work 😆).

Giant Nested Curves are back on my wall! During a workshop with a Roanoke guild this weekend, someone shared four quadrants of curves with orphan blocks of diverse prints and colors. There was nothing around the edges for the background. I told her it was fantastic (because it was). The group of quarter circles was perfect together, and I didn’t have any suggestions to change or improve it. I then asked about the background fabric. I loved the way her curves came together, but I could see that there wouldn’t be (from my perspective), one background fabric that could work for all the quadrants. She said she wasn’t sure, and I had a lightbulb moment. I almost always arrange my sample blocks by the color of the background fabric. Occasionally I drop in the random colors, but it’s usually just a bit of turquoise or burgundy amidst a mass of navy blue up there. So I grabbed a limited number of blocks with a variety of backgrounds to see if it would be too messy or chaotic. I think it works. And I think it’s time I sew up my samples blocks. I’m considering making 4 or 5 baby quilts from them. I like the idea that someone can love a baby quilt until they outgrow it and then put it on the wall as piece of art that can carry over from childhood to adulthood. It also creates a collaboration between me and the person using the quilt - the resulting art is as much their using the quilt as it is my making it. So, what do you do when you find out your friend's gonna be a grandma? Make a baby quilt of course!! I debated for a while what I wanted to do and then realized I had a bunch of superhero fabrics left over from the 2 I've made Nathan and have wanted to do a double Irish chain quilt and this lovely was born!! I was inspired by my friend Di @sisterchicksquilts youtube video for the making of this quilt. Thanks Di!! This quilt makes me think of the opening in Marvel movies when they flash through all the comic book images. I did some fussy cutting but for the most part, just randomly cut the fabrics up. I did a simple crosshatch quilting on my machine. I do say this a lot, but I really LOVE this quilt!! And with the making of this quilt, not much superhero fabric left! The weekend is over🤷♀️. Picked up fresh fruit and veggies at the Sherwood Park @handwproduce. Yesterday was a 3 egg day. Cleaned out the lint/dust in my sewing machine and made another 2 blocks for the @darlenedeondesigns one nine patch a day. Mowed the lawn and partially planted the garden.🍅🫑 Baked a batch of Raspberry Crumble Bars. Walked doggie at 2230 hours and took a pic of the northern sky.
