Throw back to opening this one, and it was a super tasty malt! As always, Bowmore at higher strength is a completely défirent beast from low strength Bowmore! Bowmore 19yo, exclusively matured in ex-first fill French oak barriques which have contained some St Julien red wine from Château Lagrange, and bottled at 48.9% My tasting notes: Nose: Fruity with vanilla and honey, the higher alcohol content or the peat aren’t in your face. I get a gentle peat/wood smoke in the background, hints of salt, some rich red berries, tanic stewed fruit, warming spices, oak, red current jam, some caramel too and a little tar. A great nose mixing fruity sweetness, wood spiciness and smoky saltiness. Palate: Oak barrels filled with fresh fruit, red berries again turning more acidic with grapefruit and orange marmalade bitterness, light smoke, fizzy, hints of tar again mixed with rubber and iodine, coal and cold campfire. A little time and air gives it a little more salt. Finish: Grapes/wine notes are more present and still some saltiness, oak (drying), gentle smoke, raisins, cedar wood, ash, cold smoke. With water: The nose gets a little softer with more sweetness. The arrival on the palate is sweeter too with some toffee notes before becoming fizzier towards the end. This is @bowmore distillery located on the Isle of Islay, a small island which makes up part of the inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1779, Bowmore was the first licensed distillery on the island and is home to the legendary No.1 Vaults - one of Scotlands oldest Scotch maturation warehouses. It is in here that Bowmore has been maturing their single malt whisky for over 240 years. 🥃 Islay whisky can be characterised by its rich peaty smokiness and salty sea air undertones. Bowmore 1997 25 years - SV - Cask 2422 🇫🇷 Voila un Bowmore qui a avait fait parler de lui, pour son prix excessif (👋🏻coucou Warren) et pour la tres bonne note attribuée par Serge Il s'agit d'un single cask de Bowmore embouteillé brut de fut (55,9° - propre) et ayant vieilli dans un Olorosso Sherry butt pendant 25 ans. Sur le papier, ca sonne plutot bien. Au 👃, on est belle et bien sur la terrasse de la distillerie, face a la mer, avec des embrunts marins pleins les narines. Les algues laissent la place aux fruits exotiques En 👄, l'ntegration est parfaite malgré un joli 55,9° au compteur. Du kick juste ce qu'il faut pour donner un beau relief, une texture ronde et huileuse, du miel, une belle tourbe saline et nos fruits qui amenent une belle gourmandise. Franchement tres bon ce Bowmore. Par contre, 25 ans en Olorosso???Sans surprise mais superbement executé. 🇬🇧 This is a Bowmore that has been the talk of the town, both for its excessive price (👋🏻coucou Warren) and for the very good rating given by Serge. At the 👃, you're right there on the distillery terrace, facing the sea, with sea spray filling your nostrils. Seaweed gives way to exotic fruits In 👄, the integration is perfect despite a nice 55.9° on the palate. Just the right amount of kick to give it a nice, round, oily texture, honey, a lovely salty peatiness and our fruit that adds a lovely sweetness. Frankly, this Bowmore is very good. Kilchoman Sanaig Whisky 70cl Scotch Whisky • 70cl • 46% A handsome release from Islay’s newest distillery, Kilchoman Sanaig is an enjoyably peaty single malt which has been vatted from both bourbon and Sherry casks. It’s named after a small, rocky creek rather near the distillery on the west coast of the island. Look out for plenty of fruit and earthy peat coming through on this one, with a touch of dark chocolate-covered raisins. Nose Pineapple chunks and white grapes. Hints of fresh coffee carry the earthy, subtly spicy peat. Toffee cubes. Palate More light fruits (this time of the peach variety), with dark chocolate raisins and a whisper of red berries. Peat grows and grows, with a little black pepper too. Finish Quite long with coastal peat lasting. .
