I haven’t been to @kaiser.haus since their early days (though I’m not sure why, because I really loved the food) and they are just as good as I remember. It was a sunny, warm afternoon and KaiserHaus has a handful of tables on their patio, just across the street from the harbour. It seemed like a perfect day to reacquaint myself. . I started with the fantastic flammkuchen, which is not something I see on menus often. I love a good flammkuchen (some people might be more familiar with it as tarte flambée), but I’ve often found the balance is a little off: either too salty or too sweet or too rich. This was just right. The crust is cracker thin and the balance of the pancetta and sweet onions was perfect. In addition to the creamy base, this version had a bit cheese on it, which is not traditional (to my knowledge), but was delicious and I am not sad about it. . The schnitzel was as excellent as always and dear lord, how I love the spaetzle fried in butter. The red cabbage provides a lovely bright note to balance the richness of the plate, as does the grilled lemon. . My husband had the cauliflower and dill soup and the beet salad. He loved them both. Dinner was so satisfying, and the service was super friendly. We’ll be back again sooner rather than later. (BTW, KaiserHaus is hosting a @bigheadwines winemaker dinner on June 15 that is sure to be fabulous. I wish I could go, but will be out of town.) . And really, I need to visit more of the restaurants in Port Dalhousie. When we first moved to Niagara over a decade ago, the restaurant scene in the area was a little sad—it felt like a bunch of sports bars and not much else (and Treadwell had moved to NOTL). Now there’s Kaiserhaus, Patio Andaluz, Portside Social Bar, and the Twisted Pig (and of course, Balzac’s for good coffee). I will make it a point to get to all of those this summer, because it’s so nice to have a good meal then go for a walk along the water. . What are your favourites in Port Dalhousie?

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mamas!!! Thanks to my thoughtful family for a beautiful Mother’s Day. I got to talk to my sweet Mom and will hopefully get to talk to my wonderful MIL tonight. Pics are in random order, but grateful for dinner last night at @counterpartbrewing and the lovely Linda and Eric and Josh and Claire for the always excellent service. #counterpartbrewing is one of our favorites! Today I was treated to homemade eggs Benedict and some yummy and beautiful gifts, then our tradition of going to the @pelhamartfestival (we missed you @janedicksonart but look for some of her work as part of the online sale!) I was treated to Starbucks and this location still had the discontinued spicy lemonade which made me so happy! Later we took the dog to Port Dalhousie and though we were periodically swarmed by mayflies, it was great to be by the lake and soak up some sun.
