Also this was rather expensive for a 40 page long book. And while I understand why it might cost so much it always hurts my heart a little when I cannot thrift books that I have to read for classes and have to pay full price for them. ✨ While I enjoyed it and can see it’s value as an adult and think that we should teach children about it is not something I would have picked up at a bookstore to read to my baby niece. ✨ Q: Do you add picture books to your reading challenge/goal on Goodreads? A: I did because I mainly use Goodreads to keep tabs on what I have read, what I want to read and which books are on my tar-shelf at the moment so I might not make the mistake of buying the same book twice when I once again cannot walk past a bookstore. 📚Goodreads-Synopsis: When she was fifteen years old, Greta Thunberg’s teacher explained to her class that our climate is changing—the earth is getting warmer, the polar ice caps are melting, and life on earth is threatened. The 2020s have been nothing but a headache & heartache simultaneously. I'm scared for our futures. If you aren't scared, if you aren't angry please take a moment to just look around. Our country, heck, our Earth is crumbling. Climate crisis, racism, lgbtq rights, women's rights, disease, homelessness, rent prices being raised, minimum wage staying the same, people are starving, crime, and so much more. This isn't living. We are quite literally in survival mode (and I know some of us are well off, but I'm saying we as in the majority of us). I can feel this collective pain and fright that so many of us are experiencing. We live on a rock in space with food that grows from the Earth, yet so many people are suffering under the grasps of a capitalistic society (and in other countries they are suffering from the way they are being ruled/governed). What do we do to change? I have no earthly idea, but I do know something needs to change. That or in 5 years time I'll move to a new country. I know other countries have their issues, but I'm POSITIVE that there are other countries that are better to actually get to live your life in other than America. Someone said it best - the new American Dream is to escape America. I know this isn't my typical post on here, but these things NEED TO BE TALKED ABOUT. There are so many injustices going on, so much hate. We are moving backwards and it is honestly terrifying. The only places I see people talking about these serious and life threatening topics is TikTok and every once in a blue moon Facebook. The biggest environmental action you can take today is to put some people-power behind good environmental policies. If you live in the U.S., the Build Back Better Act is it! Biden has some ambitious climate goals, which are only achievable if the senate will pass the Build Back Better Act. It's having a tough go for a lot of reasons, but if the citizens make a LOUD roar in favor of the bill, we help it pass. Why is calling better than a petition? Because it's direct. It's hard to call people on the phone, but I've gotten better at it. I used to write out my script before calling, but now I just state my name, my zip code, the bill I'm supporting (The Build Back Better Act), and why it matters to me. I have a 7 year old daughter and so I talk about why I care about her future. Since I also live in California, I will sometimes mention how climate change is already impacting me. Then I hang up. But really, you can call your senators and just say you support the bill. And here's a fun fact: the staff you talk to really want to talk with you. I've met some really friendly staff when I've called my senators. If you don't know how to find your senators, it's easy. Just google your state and "senator" and you'll be taken to a contact sheet. And last point--if calling on the phone is really not right for you, you can also send an email. Personal emails are also effective. Let me know in the comment section if you've ever called your senators and what bill you were supporting. 🔥THE WATER HAS CAUGHT FIRE 🔥 🔈 🚨On July 3 2021 the ocean was on fire. An ‘aquatic fireball’, caused by an oil spill from an underwater pipeline, appeared in the Gulf of Mexico. The blaze took OVER 5 hours to put out and the scale of environmental damage is still unknown. 🧯TMX is a pipeline that could be heading down a very similar path. This pipeline doesn’t go through the ocean, but it does cross various rivers and a spill could have horrific impacts on both human and aquatic life. The pipeline in Mexico burst, so who’s to say that TMX won’t rupture too? 🛢TMX crosses 1 150 kilometers and has an 87% chance of spilling into the Burrard Inlet within the next 50 years. In other words, TMX is almost guaranteed to spill. Can you imagine what a spill like the one in Mexico would do here - this time right beside inhabited communities? We ask our leaders, is this the world you want to leave behind? A world where the great ocean can catch on fire at any given moment. April der Earth Day gefeiert, um auf die Umweltzerstörung aufmerksam zu machen und die Wertschätzung für eine natürliche Umwelt zu fördern.🌍 Mit unserer Initiative wollen wir in Klimakonzerten🎻🎺, mit Impulsen zur Nachhaltigkeit, durch unser Projekt auf Madagaskar🌱🌱 und durch unsere Vernetzung das Thema Klimaschutz in die Bevölkerung tragen.
