“More than 60,000 of 80,000 failed asylum seekers still in the country have been allowed to remain here with full work and study rights, it can be revealed. Government figures show that 80,000 would-be refugees who originally travelled to Australia on work, study, or tourist visas and later made failed claims for protection are still here despite having their protection claims rejected. At least 61,525 of those remain in the country with work rights on their bridging visas and 61,554 have rights to study. Just 17 failed asylum seekers were removed from the country either voluntarily or involuntarily in the last two months. Data also revealed that large numbers of visitors claiming asylum arrived on student visas. The most recent figures available showed that 2135 claims were made by student visa holders in the first half of 2023 alone, with Chinese and Indian passport holders the most likely to make a claim despite most refugee applications from those countries being knocked back. In April, just one in 10 Chinese applicants and one in 40 Indians dealt with during that month were granted a Final Protection Visa. Separately, figures released by the Department of Home Affairs also showed that over March and April, around 70 would-be asylum seekers lodged a claim every day, with more than 40,000 claims having been lodged since Labor was elected.” If Labor was serious about the homeless crisis, this is the first issue they would tackle. Ein Botenstoff von Tumorzellen kann bestimmte Immunzellen in einer frühen Phase der Immunabwehr ✋🏻 ausbremsen. Bei dem Botenstoff handelt es ich um Prostaglandin, das von vielen Tumorzellen verstärkt ausgeschüttet wird. Das konnte ein Team um Dr. Jan Böttcher, Forschungsgruppenleiter am Institut für Molekulare Immunologie der @tu.muenchen und 🫁 DZL-Forscher Prof. Sebastian Kobold, stellvertretender Direktor der Abteilung Klinische Pharmakologie am @klinikum_lmu zeigen. Prostaglandin bindet an Rezeptoren auf der Oberfläche bestimmter Immunzellen, der sogenannten stammzellartigen T-Zellen. Bei einer funktionierenden Immunantwort wandern diese Immunzellen in den Tumor ein, vermehren sich dort und entwickeln sich zu zytotoxischen T-Zellen weiter, die den Krebs attackieren. Prostaglandin verhindert diese Entwicklung, so dass die T-Zell-Antwort zusammenbricht und der Tumor ungehindert 📈 wachsen kann. Blockierten die 🧑🏻🔬👨🔬 Forschenden in Tumormodellen die Wechselwirkung von Prostaglandin und dem Rezeptor auf der Oberfläche der Immunzellen, konnte das Immunsystem effektiv gegen Tumore vorgehen. „Wir haben einen Mechanismus entdeckt, der die Immunabwehr des Körpers in einer entscheidenden Phase beeinflusst“, sagt Jan Böttcher. „Viele Tumore verhindern so, dass sich aus den stammzellartigen T-Zellen überhaupt zytotoxische T-Zellen im Tumor bilden, die den Krebs attackieren könnten." „Heutige 💊 Behandlungsansätze würden vermutlich effektiver, wenn die Auswirkungen des Prostaglandin E2 auf stammzellartigen T-Zellen blockiert würde, so dass sich diese sich ungehindert im Tumor ausdifferenzieren können“, ergänzt Sebastian Kobold. Jetzt gilt es Strategien zu 🧪🧫 entwickeln, um die Verteidigung der Tumore auszuhebeln. Dafür müssen die Effekte von Prostaglandin E2 gestoppt werden, etwa indem der Tumor kein Prostaglandin 2 mehr bildet oder indem Immunzellen unempfänglich für diesen Botenstoff werden. The shortage of skilled labor in construction is alarming. The NAHB’s Home Building Institute “Construction Labor Market Report” tells us that the construction industry needs 723,000 new workers each year to meet the demand for new residential construction, which represents 3.2 million of the construction payroll employment of 7.9 million. Good news - enrollment in construction vocational and apprentice programs is up 16%. Sitting over a delicious breakfast and pondering on what seemed like a bizarre dream I had last night. I found so much comfort in its energy & message.✨✨✨ Last night I dreamt, so vividly, that I was in labour and at the cusp of giving birth.✨ In the dream an angelic voice spoke to me, telling me that in order to birth my babe I will first need to birth three snakes.✨ I did, I birthed three quite large snakes. One was a beautiful green, one vibrant with red and black and the last was yellow.✨ Iwasn't afraid or confused. I felt comforted. The Birth Sling I always knew that I would have a land birth, I never felt called to birth in the water - even though at times throughout my labour I found relief in the bath or shower - I still knew it would not be the place of Iva's birth. I prepared for this well in advance with the birth sling. I knew with a land birth I may still want something that would support me with positions, and that's exactly what it did. I used it throughout my pregnancy in multiple different positions, stretching, swaying, squatting and doing light movements. "WIll someone just please take me to the hospital and cut this baby out?!" I thought to myself, crouched on my knees, leaning over the cold bathtub, moaning so loudly that it felt like my vocal cords might burst. I didn't realize that I was in transition. This moment of fear and feeling like I could not possibly go on was actually a very normal sign post that labor was almost over. However, I had surpassed the stage of labor in which my logical brain could hold onto a thought for more than a second, and I was deep into the phase of cosmic traveling. The immediate next thought was about how horrible it would be to get dressed, go out into the freezing cold December air, walk down the stairs, get into the car, deal with contractions while the car is moving, and proceed into a bright building with strangers touching me and machines everywhere. "Never mind," I thought. "I have to get this baby out myself. Just be here now. I can do this." I told myself. I sunk back into my primal brain. The only way to the end... was through... My midwife suggested I get up to go pee when she noticed my sound and position change on the bed. Maybe I was a little quieter after passing through transition. Maybe it was the subtle grunt at the end of a surge. She had a sense for what was about to happen. I waddled to the toilet, sat down, and immediately my waters released with a pop and gush. What a change in sensation! With the next surge, it felt like the heaviness and expansion of a bowling ball moving down through my pelvis. It was no longer painful but just really big feelings physically and emotionally. It was yet again a time to surrender. This was an unstoppable force. Everything in my body would uncontrollably bear down during a surge, and then release into softness in between. I moved onto hands and knees on my bedroom floor and my first born entered this world just 20 minutes after my waters had released.
