It's been a little quiet over here with posting but that's just because when I'm not busy with my #1 role as a mom to three, I'm deep in edits ❤️ Positing a little preview from a recent birth, including some detail shots I rarely share ✨️ May this lady know how indefinitely proud I am of her and how much I care for this family! Ok I am officially combining my personal ig and my doula ig into one harmonious reba ig❤️‍🔥 In our most recent doula mentorship circle with @kalliecaton and @jessiesvibe we talked about how we are humans who are also doulas. This resonated so much with me because I have always wanted to be the best designer, the best metalsmith, the best whatever I am at what I do, but quickly and through painful doses of reality realized that's not fair to me. So yes while I am obsessed with autonomous homebirth, I am also obsessed with hiking in the sun and finding a nice shaded spot. I'm obsessed listening to good music. I'm obsessed with living slowly until an event comes up and then I lose my marbles. Im obsessed with living in Boise, a city we moved to on a leap of faith that actually feels like a small town like where Im from. I'm obsessed with making anything I need from scratch and being as self reliant as your budget and mind can get ya. So, you'll be seeing more of my personal life on here because I am a doula who yes is involved in birth and finds it one of the most fascinating subjects on the planet. But I am also Rebecca. A dorky, spunky, gal who experiences a full life beyond birth too💃❤️‍🔥 #arebaderci #boisedoula #treasurevalleydoula

Women's Health Bookclub is for the women!!! @vessel_chiro Tonight we talked about Part Two of Deep Nutrition which is all about how American culture has strayed away from eating real food and described in detail the harmful ohysical effects from it. Our grocery stores are consumed with "products" instead of real food. And these products harm our physical bodies, turn off our good genes, and we pass down our bad genes to our children. We discussed how seed oils and excess sugar affect our blood and brain and epigenetics, and all the ways this seeps into our daily lives. From the conversations we have with strangers, to the authenticity of relationships we have with close ones - we confided in how eating is an intimate act, one that is shared frequently with others and that it is an emotional topic for many, which can make some feel awkward because they may know they aren't making the best food choices but they still do it anyways. Our group has real conversation about eating clean and also screwing up. No one is perfect. But we all agreed that the point is to be an informed consumer who is aware of EVERY ingredient in their food, and be able to choose for their own family what they buy - be it vegetables or fruit roll ups. There was also a special appearance by biker Keith??😂 Cooking with vegetable oil is not an option anymore as its KNOWN to have harmful effects on the brain, blood, and nearly all cells in communication in your body. So, we celebrated healthy oils with an olive oil sample bar💃 We all pay for pain in some way - either preventative or reactive. Invest in your health! Also join bookclub! #doitforthekids #deepnutrition #fertilitymatters #womenshealth #boisedoula #treasurevalleydoula

A women's brain literally goes through a physical change when they become a mother. Too often the focus is on what products to buy for baby and not this whole body/whole life change. After birth you may feel like your whole world is turned upside down. During these moments and in preparation, remember that you are the expert of your own life. You ARE cut out for this and it's okay that sometimes you'll feel lost and like you don't know what you're doing. There is plenty of time to "figure this out." You got this 💛 #treasurevalleypostpartum #nampadoula #nampapostpartumdoula #treasurevalleydoula #meridiandoula #boisedoula #caldwelldoula #canyoncountydoula

Allow yourself to feel deeply, and to be seen while doing so. The whole reason why homebirth is safe is because there is an honesty that fills the room. Everyone present understands this is possible with tender love and care, perseverance, and the fundamental power of a woman left undisturbed. Homebirth is about transparency, deeply rooted connection, and a trust that stems from all of that in order to make intuitive decisions while holding personal autonomy and responsibility. Birth is not about being strong enough to not feel weakness. Birth is about feeling whatever is happening and working through it. Allow yourself to feel what's real❤️‍🔥 Available for 2024 homebirth sister support. Send me a dm #boisedoula #treasurevalleydoula #homebirthwithoutfear

This is home birth— Soft lighting, in the space you are most comfortable, surrounded by the people you love, and cared for by a midwife that has taken so much time to get to know you and your family. The way this beautiful 3rd time mom went through transition (without anyone realizing she was going through transition) with so much peace and composure was so awe-inspiring. Her breaths were steady and her movements composed, as she surrendered to the natural rhythm of birth. She welcomed her “team green” baby into the world with such grace, guided by her inner strength and the loving support of her husband. It was truly such a special moment to watch and be able to capture this sweet family as they finally learned that their beautiful baby is a GIRL after months and months of waiting. #boiseid #birthdoula #birth #birthkeeper #spaceholder #birthphotography #birthphotographer #doula #doulalife #teamgreenbaby #boisedoula #boisephotographer #homebirth #midwiferycare

It's interesting to me how different families handle the 0-1 baby vs the 1-2 transition. For us the 0-1 was a piece of cake. total trick baby had me convinced I was an excellent mom and parenting was not nearly as hard as everyone made it out to be... enter #2. food sensitivities, reflux, tongue tie, ALL. THE. THINGS. I realize now, 9 years removed from my second son's birth that I remember my other two son's early years better. I was so sucked in to the awfulness that was his early newborn days that I can't remember more than the awful. And that kind of sucks. I wish I would have been better at asking for help. I wish I would have just taken a deep breath. I wish I would have taken some medication 😂. I wish I would have recognized my postpartum depression for what it was instead of assuming that because I was totally fine with my first son, I needed to be totally fine with my second. I'm not sure where I'm going with this caption except to say that if you're struggling with your first baby, your second baby or your 12th baby remember that every baby is different. and it's ok to need some help. Here are a few ideas to help with a tough new baby transition: 🧑🏻‍🍼Hire a Postpartum Doula 👵🏼Fly in a Grandma 👭🏼Join a mom's group 👩🏽‍⚕️Find a postpartum therapist 🏥Seek medical treatment (for you and/or baby) 💆🏻‍♀️Practice self care (go get a massage!) 🏋️‍♀️Hire a personal trainer (I had one who wore my baby for me while I worked out. It wasn't about getting my body back- it was me time and feeling good about myself again) 🍷go out for a glass of wine with a friend (have a virtual date with someone over zoom if you really can't leave the house)

Taking ownership of your birth experience is paramount, as it sets the tone for the journey into parenthood. By actively participating in decision-making, you reclaim agency over your body and your baby's arrival. Each choice made, from birthing positions to pain management, shapes the narrative of your experience. Embracing this responsibility fosters empowerment, confidence, and trust in your instincts. It's about honoring your values, preferences, and desires while navigating the unpredictable terrain of childbirth. Ultimately, by asserting your autonomy, you pave the way for a more fulfilling and transformative journey into parenthood. Your birth experience is one of the most profound moments of your life. Don't just be a spectator; be an active participant. Advocate for your preferences, ask questions, and surround yourself with support. Your voice matters. #EmpoweredBirth #YourExperienceYourVoice #birthownership #boisedoula #birthdoula

✨Food is Medicine ✨ Food is ultimately what will bring you to health in most situations. Following birth, a woman needs more nutrition than she did during pregnancy! Many don't know this and consequentially mothers are left depleted. It's hard enough being a mom, whether for the first time or of several kids. Add on to this that we don't have the traditional "village" anymore. A couple food tips for those without a village: - Set up a meal train! People want to love on you 💕 - Meal prep some things for your freezer - Have a nesting party rather than a baby shower - Hire a postpartum doula who cooks 🌿 - Order from a meal delivery service to drop off fresh food Remember, you deserve this care. Your upfront investment in your health will strengthen you for years. #nampadoula #meridiandoula #boisedoula #treasurevalleydoulas #nampapostpartumdoula #canyoncountydoula #treasurevalleypostpartum

Coping With Early Labor Early labor can be a dance of anticipation and excitement as you prepare to meet your little one. There are so many emotions and so many questions! Here are some ways to navigate this phase: Stay Hydrated & Nourished: Sip on hydrating fluids and munch on light, energy-boosting snacks. Staying nourished keeps your strength up as you journey through those initial contractions. Distract Yourself: Engage in activities that take your mind off the contractions. Read a book, watch a movie, or try out a gentle DIY project. Distractions can help ease any restlessness. Connect with Your Partner: Lean into the presence of your partner. Share conversations, laughter, and quiet moments together. Their support can be both comforting and uplifting during this special time. Remember, early labor is a unique blend of anticipation and preparation. Let each surge remind you of the strength that resides within you. With each passing moment, you’re one step closer to welcoming your little miracle into your arms. 📸: @laurafarrisphotography #labor #laborprep #boisedoula #childbirth #birth #birthdoula

One of the indicators that labor has really begun is contractions that become longer, stronger, and closer together. Timing your contractions can provide valuable insights into your labor progress. Here's how to do it: Grab a Timer: Use a stopwatch, phone app, or even a clock with a second hand to track the duration of your contractions. (This process is SO much easier using a free app!) Start the Clock: Begin timing from the moment a contraction starts, and stop when it ends. Note Frequency: Record how often contractions occur, from the beginning of one to the start of the next. If you are using an app it will track this information for you! Watch for Patterns: As you time contractions, look for patterns developing. Are they getting stronger, longer, and closer together? Don’t obsess: It’s easy to get caught up in recording every single contraction. Time your contractions for about 5 contractions and then leave the timer alone and focus on coping with contractions (or on providing A+ support!). Start timing again if something seems to have changed (big difference in intensity, frequency, water breaking etc) Remember, each birthing journey is unique, and timing contractions can help you gauge when it's time to reach out to your healthcare provider or birthing team. #boisedoula #boisebirth #birthdoula

If the nesting instinct is hitting you hard, here are a few household projects to consider adding to your to-do list to help ease the transition. Create Your Sanctuary 🛏 While decking out the baby's room might be more exciting, remember that in those initial weeks, you'll likely be spending a lot more time in your bedroom. With all the well- deserved resting, your bed will become a haven. Transform your bedroom into a serene and soothing space where you can unwind and catch some much-needed sleep. Strategic Diaper Stations 🧷 Newborns are quite prolific when it comes to diaper changes. Around 12 times a day prolific. To make life easier for your future self, set up multiple diaper-changing stations across your home. Consider having one in your bedroom, living room, and the baby's nursery. Outfit these stations with essentials like diapers, wipes, extra onesies, receiving blankets, and a laundry and garbage bag. Having these necessities within easy reach can be a lifesaver, especially if you've had a c-section and moving around is a bit challenging. Meal Prep 🥘 Postpartum meal prep is a game-changer for new parents! Ensuring nutritious meals are ready to go saves time, boosts energy, and supports recovery during those early days of parenthood. It's self-care served on a plate! 🍽️💕 #postpartumnutrition #postpartumdoula #boisedoula

This is a personal boundary I have. It is how I, Rebecca, lil ol Reba, can best serve women in my community. To hold this boundary means worlds to me. I cherish natural birth because I believe it is a feminine rite. So, it's incredibly difficult for me to serve a woman who is smothered by unnatural lighting, nurses and doctors with unattuned conversation, unnecessary interventions thay feel like the law, and most providers present who have likely never, or maybe better worded, rarely have witnessed the power of a woman giving birth unmedicated. Yes, I am biased, but it does not go without reason. So, to those of you that have reached out to me for support or are even just curious on wanting a future unmedicated hospital birth, I challenge you to go deep within yourself and ask, "why the hospital?" Why does that feel like more of a safe space to give birth than home? Yes, this limits my reach but Im secure in knowing I serve who I am supposed to serve. This also allows my prenatal support to look different than others. Because I love and obsess over my clients so much, I offer 5 prenatal visits to make sure we build such a strong relationship for your birth - it'll feel like we've known each other for years❤️‍🔥 Still accepting 2024 homebirths. Every birthing journey is unique, and sometimes interventions can play a part in the process. Here’s a glimpse into some common interventions. Induction: Initiating contractions using medications or other techniques. Fetal Monitoring: Continuous or intermittent fetal monitoring allows your care team to monitor baby’s heartbeat and response to contractions. Epidural: An epidural can provide comfort by reducing pain during labor. It involves a local anesthetic to numb the lower half of your body. AROM (Artificial Rupture of Membranes): Your care provider may request to perform AROM to break your water, helping labor progress. Pitocin: This synthetic hormone helps stimulate uterine contractions. Pitocin is often used to encourage delivery of the placenta and to control hemorrhaging post delivery. As with anything, there are potential risks and benefits to any intervention. It is your right to ask as many questions as you’d like before any intervention is performed. It is also your right to decline any intervention. #laborintervention #birth #birthdoula #boisedoula #treaurevalleydoula #informedconsent #doula #pitocin #epidural

In my childbirth education class, we stretch out our calves and learn how to do the side lying release. Two of the preparatory things that they practice to prep before labor. The baby has to navigate coming down through the bony structure of the pelvis as well as the muscle structure of the pelvic floor. The first three months of your baby’s life are often referred to as the ‘Fourth Trimester’. It’s a time of immense change for your little one, as everything they’ve known in the cozy womb is now completely different. This transition can be quite a challenge, but fear not! You have the power to make it smoother. After months of constant warmth, rhythmic sounds, and a gentle sway, your baby enters a world filled with bright lights, new sounds, and unfamiliar sensations. The best thing you can do? Hold them close and be there for them. Your touch, heartbeat, and soothing voice provide that much-needed sense of security. Skin-to-skin time, babywearing, and responding to their cues with love can work wonders in helping them adjust. Remember, you’re their anchor in this new adventure, and every cuddle and kiss makes all the difference. #FourthTrimester #NewbornLove #homebirth #newborn #boisedoula #doulasupport #doulaservices #doula

One reason why I may be your best match as a doula is that I'm not afraid to sit with your hard emotions. The path that led me to becoming a doula is one familiar with with grief, torn relationships, loss of trust and knowing what it looks like to walk in rebuilding that. I don't shy away from hard stories, fallen tears, or shaken voices. In fact, I prefer to hear them. You dont have to tell me every detail. But, feeling comfortable enough to allow yourself to feel all your feelings with me present is where our magic will happen and how you can experience your dream birth. There's nothing to hide. During labor, your doula takes care of all of the little things that will help you have a birth you can feel great about. Here’s just some of what I do during labor support: 🌱Continuous physical and emotional support: A big factor in a successful labor is the ability to relax and stay calm. I’ll help you do this by being by your side for each step, providing physical support like hip squeezes and position changes, as well as emotional support like addressing your fears and working through anxiety. 🌱Creating a safe space: Your labor will progress faster when you feel safe and supported. This means creating an environment that you can truly relax in, with people that you feel truly supported by! We’ll talk about this during our prenatal meetings, and then when the big day comes, I’ll help you put our plan into action. 🌱Support for partners: Your partner is probably your biggest birth support, and I’m here to support them! During labor, I’ll give them tips and tricks to allow them to be as involved as possible, all while making sure they’re up to date and informed on everything that’s going on and providing them emotional support, too. #doulasupport #birthdoula #birthplan #doula #birthsupport #homebirth #hospitalbirth #boisedoula

“A mother’s arms are made of tenderness, and children sleep soundly in them.” —Victor Hugo I used to feel guilty sometimes about holding my babies when they slept. I thought maybe I should set them down and get something ‘important’ done. However, the more babies I had, the more I realized how fleeting the baby stage is. Hold those babies as much as you can, because soon they won’t be babies anymore. 📸:@laurafarrisphotography #babies #babysleep #newborn #boisedoula #motherhood

World Doula Week Doula Highlight! Brylee has been contracting with us as a postpartum doula and has been so fabulous! Here’s what she has to say about being a doula! “My favorite thing about being a doula is watching parents become more of who they have always been, in the best way. It’s like watching a tree bear fruit. The instinct and intuition just come- even when they think they’re losing it. And it’s beautiful to be a part of that.” #postpartumdoula #boisepostpartum #boisedoula #worlddoulaweek

You can tell the joy she gets from doing the newborn exam! It’s always a pleasure to work with @briiismiiith at @treasurevalleymidwives. For this birth, we had been the Doula and the midwife together for these clients for their previous birth. So it was extra special that we got to do the same set of clients for this birth again. #childbirth #pregnancy #boisebirthdoula #mindcenteredbirth #treasurevalleydoulas #birthdoula #doula #birthsupport #naturalbirth #doulaphotographer #boisedoula #birthstories #birthphotography #repeatclients

Let’s talk about the fear, tension, pain cycle! - An increase of fear during labor will cause an increase of tension in the body, resulting in a higher level of perceived pain thus causing more fear! - Once in this cycle, it can be hard to get out. Here are some things you can do to free yourself from this cycle! - KNOWLEDGE: Educate yourself on what to expect and what you will experience during birth. Replace fear with understanding of your body and the birthing process - RELAXATION: Evaluate where the tension sits in your body. Is your jaw clenched, your shoulders tight? Recognize a specific body part and choose to release the tension there. - LABOR SUPPORT: Whether that is a partner, friend, a doula or all of the above, the support you have during labor can make or break the experience. Build a great support team for your birth. A trained doula can provide ideas for comfort measures, positioning, etc. that can help you cope during labor. - FAITH: Faith and trust in the human body’s ability to give birth. Trust the process, yourself and your baby. You can do this mama! - #boisedoula #treasurevalleydoulas #feartensionpaincycle #idahobirthdoula #idahodoula

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is sometimes used during childbirth for pain relief! Here are some benefits of nitrous oxide for birth: 1. Fast-acting: Nitrous oxide works quickly, providing almost immediate relief when inhaled. 2. Self-administered: It's self-administered by the laboring person, which gives them a sense of control over their pain management. 3. Minimal impact on labor progress: Unlike some other pain relief methods, nitrous oxide does not interfere with the progress of labor or the baby's well-being! 4. Reduced need for other interventions: It can help reduce the need for stronger pain medications or interventions like epidurals. 5. Mild sedative effect: Nitrous oxide can help ease anxiety and promote relaxation during labor without causing significant sedation or drowsiness. 6. Quick clearance from the body: Once inhalation stops, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off rapidly, allowing the laboring person to remain alert and active. 7. Minimal impact on the baby: Nitrous oxide does not pass through the placenta so there’s no effect on your baby. 8. Flexibility: It can be used intermittently as needed throughout labor, adapting to the laboring mama’s preferences. Take the opportunity to discuss using nitrous oxide with your provider! It can be an incredible tool in your comfort measures tool box 🗃️ #nitrous #birthdoula #birthtools #boisedoula #birthtips

Today, I hosted my first ever Curious About Homebirth? Understanding Your Female Cycle and its Direct Link to a Happy Homebirth free class! We went over all the ways your preconception health (mental health totally included!) and your attitude towards your fertility can impact your birth, with a deep dive into how our subconscious patterns we were raised with, aka Generational Trauma, can leak into our labor and ways to protect that from happening. It was powerful, and science based, and introspective, and filled with genuine curiosity about individual success. Plus, there were two epic raffle prizes won! Women's bodies are capable of amazing and unbelievable things. And since most of us werent taught exactly what we're capable of, we have to educate ourselves so that we can tune into our intuitive mammal instincts that perfectly guide us to what's truly ours. I'm hoping to host more of these free classes, so if you're interested in learning and meeting like minded women, let me know! What a true honor it was to support this sweet family welcoming their third baby (surprise gender) on Leap Day! The plan and hope was a VBA2C- and after a fairly short and very intense labor, a sweet baby BOY came into this world! His parents prepared and came with all the knowledge and support they needed for this experience. I’m forever humbled by birth and being invited on your birth team! Did you know that the first three months of your baby's life are often referred to as the 'Fourth Trimester'?   It's a time of immense change for your little one, as everything they've known in the cozy womb is now completely different. This transition can be quite a challenge, but fear not! You have the power to make it smoother. Imagine: after months of constant warmth, rhythmic sounds, and a gentle sway, your baby enters a world filled with bright lights, new sounds, and unfamiliar sensations. It's like landing on a new planet! 🌍 The best thing you can do? Hold them close and be there for them. Your touch, heartbeat, and soothing voice provide that much-needed sense of security. Skin-to-skin time, babywearing, and responding to their cues with love can work wonders in helping them adjust. Remember, you're their anchor in this new adventure, and every cuddle and kiss makes all the difference. #FourthTrimesterMagic #NewbornLove #YouveGotThis #postpartumdoula #boisedoula

🌗🌱🌳 “Think about a tree. When you look at a tree, you often only see flowers, leaves, and a thick, solid trunk. But there is another part that we don’t see, a part burrowed deep into the earth that’s entwined with stone and grit. Below the surface lives an intricate system of roots nimbly reaching toward things that help the tree grow, an intricate web of life living out of sight and in complete darkness. This is where the tree gathers all its sustenance. There would be no tree, no buds or bloom, were it not for the dark earth wrapping tight around half of its body. Just like the tree, we grow half on the surface and half beneath it. But unlike the tree, we are immensely afraid of this darkness. This palpable fear is what causes us to disown, ignore, and shun half of who we are. What does this say of our relationship with our very root? It says we only pray for bloom, neglecting the fact that there is no bloom without root and darkness. Only good can come from stretching your roots further through stone and silt. It is how you find nutrients for the crown of leaves you are soon to wear.” ~Sarah Blondi Tonight, my yoga teacher read us this to finish our time together. As I lay still at the end of the hour, she read, and I thought about Lonni. The words reminded me of the way this mama surrendered to the birth of her baby girl. It also reminds me of all the ways our bodies are divinely made to birth our babies. Here’s to all the growth humans experience, especially first time mothers.🪶 #pregnantinboise #boisedoula #boisebirth #boisebirthdoula #birthdoula #treasurevalleydoula #normalbirth

Birth work is Kingdom work 👑 it is holy, selfless, sacred, spirit filled, intuitive & and a whole lot more. I pray The Lord our Creator prepares my mind, body & spirit to support every family that I am trusted to walk alongside of. I pray my presence is filled with his undeniable peace & overwhelming joy. I pray my head, heart and hands are intuitively intertwined with his purpose. As a Doula I will hold you in every blooming seed, in every pedal shed, the highs, the lows & everything in between. I will stand by you. Every mama who blooms, plants a very special seed in my heart. //greek//: Doula- a woman who serves. 🤲🏼 • • • #birthwork #birthdoula #bloom #motherhood #childbirth #idahodoula #boisedoula #preggo #babybump #blooming

There is a reason women become hyper aware of their senses during pregnancy and birth. We were made for more than handing over our innate power to someone else who can "better see” what's going on down there. We were made for this. When we are in tune with the world inside of ourselves, when we are in tune with our surroundings, the people and places WE CHOOSE to surround ourselves with, we are able to make instantaneous decisions because we trust in ourselves enough to discern right from wrong for this situation. Bodily autonomy is of the utmost importance. The birthing woman is in power. #homebirthwithoutfear #leggggoooo #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #boisedoula #treasurevalleydoula
