It was a busy and successful weekend of summer tournaments for our teams. Thank you to Beacon Hill Junior Football Club for as always a well organised, friendly and fun tournament where we fared well: The U16 girls entered two teams who finished champions and runners up. The U13 girls finished third. The U11 Huskies were champions The U10 Rockets were runners up and U10 Jets finished third. And our U6s had a great time over at a festival in Fleet. This is my beautiful ten year old daughter after winning player of the match in her final league game for her grassroots football team just a week ago. What this picture doesnโt tell you is how sad she has been feeling and all the negative things she has been thinking, feeling and telling herself. Six months ago she was finally (after many years of me and her Dad saying something wasnโt right) diagnosed with dyslexia. She comes across as so confident, strong and resilient but this week it became very clear that she has been struggling way more than we realised, with her dyslexia, and it has been really affecting her mental health and confidence. She is worried she has something wrong with her and isnโt normal because of the way it affects her. She has been playing football since she was 4 and been to many Lionesses and WSL matches. I am desperate to help her feel better about her diagnosis and to know that it doesnโt need to define her so โฆ. Itโs a long shot but I am hoping that a female who plays within one of the WSL teams who also has dyslexia may see this and be kind enough to provide a short message of encouragement for her so that she knows itโs ok to have the diagnosis, it doesnโt make her stupid, as she often thinks, and she can still do amazing things! What a super, sunny weekend for footie! MYFC were represented superbly in a couple of tournaments this weekend, with teams playing in the Cotswold Youth League World Cup Tournament and the Melksham Town Youth FC Summer Tournament. Our u7s had a great time playing in the World Cup event, which was a little different to standard tournaments. They made it into the final, which was incredible. Our u8s played brilliantly in the Melksham tournament, with plenty of great play. As too did our u10 girls, who played their socks off... settling into the games and topping their group! Also in action at Melksham were our u13 girls, with team Stanway and team Toone both putting on superb performances. Congratulations to team Toone who made it to the final, finishing as runners up to Swindon Leopards. Life with boys - so crazy, but so good. Here are some of my favorite tips for sessions with older kids โฌ๏ธ - let them bring things they love! In this case it was a football that we got to use throughout the session - be totally ok with them getting dirty. I think it took a total of 5 minutes for these boys to get grass stains ๐คฃ - give them jobs to do throughout the session. During this session I had them see how many flowers they could pick in 10 seconds and then we got to surprise their mama with them after. When I was a front-line ECE, some of my favourite activities were ones that turned out nothing like I planned. Todays activity was one of those ๐ Inspired by a post from @happytoddlerplaytime E and I ventured into the backyard today to pick some dandelions. She loves looking at flowers and doing crafts so I thought this was perfect for her. Nope! She decided she was scared of bugs today and refused to pick any, instead going around and giving me directions as to which ones she wanted ME to pick. Then when we got inside she wasnโt very interested in threading them into our turtle, but instead was enthralled with using her scissors to trim the backs ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ BUT this activity was still perfect as it encompassed a lot of things I love- recycled materials, fine-motor practice, and emergent learning that reminds us that kids will show us how they want to discover the world. ๐ซ hope youโre discovering something fun this weekend, too! #ece #earlychildhoodteaching #finemotorskills #naturecrafts #montessoritoddler #letthemplay #imaginativeplay
