From the ages of 7-12 until 1982, I lived in Bhusawal, a small railway town in Maharashtra. It is not far from the Ajanta caves, and we would often visit them for day outings. One night we had 3 guests stay over, an art teacher and two teenage girls who had just come back from Ellora and were on their way to Ajanta. One of them opened up her sketchbook and showed me her watercolors of the monolithic Kailash temple there and I fell in love like an entire Yoniverse had opened up before me. I fell in love with the temple, the watercolor she had made, the fact that she was traveling the country making this beautiful art. I knew then that’s what I wanted for my own life. When I visited the Kailash temple a year later, I was verklempt utterly. It’s magnificence cannot be overstated, it is amazing that human beings did this. My son is named after it, Xenith Kailash Anantha. I made a sculpture as an ode to this magical place and called it “Mother of Kailash, consider the mountain from which the temple was cleaved.” I think it’s kind of amazing and appropriate that this is the sculpture that @desti.knee @rosssuttongallery is showing in Venice, a long held dream. This railway girl who has been very, very blessed by her life as an artist and curator. Oyunbozan Feministin El Kitabı | #kitapyorumu | Aslında daha çok kitap üzerine düşüncelerimi paylaşmaya geldim. Çünkü bu kadar kapsamlı bir kitabı nasıl bir çırpıda yorumlayabilirim bilmiyorum. Bu kitabı okumak benim için inanılmaz keyifliydi. Çünkü birçok açıdan hem görüldüğümü hem de benim için kör noktalar olabilecek konular hakkında uyarıldığımı hissettim. Ben feminizmi tanımlamaya çalıştığımda zihnimde hep havada esnek bir madde gibi canlandırırım. Bu esnek maddenin farklı kadınlar için farklı ihtiyaçlara ve durumlara göre şekillenmesi, kıvrılması, genişlemesi ve sarmalaması gerektiğini düşünüyorum. Bu bazen bir yandan bisiklete binerken bir yandan da labut çevirme gibi bir hokkabazlığı bazen de zihnimde birden fazla denklemi aynı anda yapmak zorunda kalmayı gerektiriyormuş gibi hissettiriyor. Empatik olmayı, algılarımızı açık tutmayı ve kendi meselelerimiz üzerine çalışmayı da gerektiriyor. Çünkü her bir kadının sosyo-ekonomik durumu, etnik kökeni, dini, dili, ırkı, yönelimi vs feminizmin tanımını silip tekrar baştan yazdırıyor. Bu yazımlar sırasında da aslında ataerkil düzenin tanımı da şekil değiştiriyor, bazen gizleniyor bazen neon ışıkları altında parlıyor bazen bizden birine dönüşüyor bazen de bizi bize karşı çevirmeye çalışıyor. Bu anlamda, kitap bize karşı inşa edilmiş bir dünyada yolları tanımayı öğretiyor diyebilirim. O kadar çok küçük parçalara bölünmüş ama bütüne bakış açımızı değiştiren mercek var ki… Sara Ahmed bence bizi hem bunların farkındalığına getiriyor hem de uyarıyor. Bu okuma sonrası listeme birçok yeni kitap katıldı.
