Ganna Ki & Agronaut’s Collective Ecology of Care, Kyjov 2023 My field of research during Agronaut’s residency Ecology of Care in Kyjov Czech Republic was Body of Nature: Nature of Body. Ana Mendieta, a Cuban-American artist, who is best known for her Earth silhouettes became one of my inspiration. This story begins with a girl, who was born from the not-human mother Bhūmi, the Earth. She becomes Beregynja, Guardian spirit of Nature and humanity, Who like the Phoenix Bird, gets born, burned and reborn in Flames and Ashes. I found myself laying Body-to-Body with the Earth. Nothing could give me so much softness, safety, and peace as the Earth. Body of Nature deals with themes of death and rebirth, staged in a womb-like space, surrendered to ancestral void, the new beginning. The natural beauty of Kyjov’s environment was countered by the connection with ecoactivist and artist Barbora Lungova who introduced us to the problem of the logging in Zdanice Forest. After this experience, I decided to create ritualistic performances with Water, Earth, Trees and Fire, which became a powerful call to protect Zdanice forest from deforestation and bring attention of the public to this terrible politics of local government. The story of Beregynya is about a goddess, a Supernatural Guardian spirit of the ancient Ukrainian native faith. Berehyny are mentioned in written paganism records of the 14th-15th centuries in Ukraine. Ancient Ukrainians believed that Beregynya was a Great Cosmic Mother who created the world. During the performance on the last day, she was transformed into a free spirit: Putting her on a 100 m2 circle on fire, activating the Guardian Spirit with chanting collectively protection mantra for the healing of the Earth and Zdanicky forest in the Czech Republic, which is in danger of being cut out and disappear. #ecologyofcare #agronautscollective #transformativeart #artrituals #beregynja #bhumi #ganna_ki_artist #performanceart #agnipath #inservice

Do you interact and relate with your multispecies community with an ecology of care? Before this picture took place, a verbal, and energetic exchange occurred. Out loud, a greeting was said, along with a request for a picture to be taken. Then a pause, a moment of space for response. And delightfully, my Lizard companion provided an affirmative ‘yes’ which was intuitively and sensorially received. I proceeded to get quite close, and then what you see above was co-created by the two of us, along with this magical technological device. I then thanked Lizard and they carried on taking in the warmth from our dear cosmic companion, the star we call Sun. To be in relationship with our more-than-human companions is an ever present collaborative opportunity for respect, reverence and care. Reciprocity comes, or rather goes towards our non-human relations when we bring these qualities, along with our presence. Which can be found best through our breath. So, to breathe into these spaces of co-creating, co-becoming, and collaboration is perhaps the best recommendation we at IRB can make. Katie Hubbell's “Subsuming Solids” is featured in our new exhibition, "Embodied Futures & the Ecology of Care.” Crafted with meticulous layers of paper pulp, each layer is carefully sanded. The depth and brilliance come alive as the pigment is embedded within the pulp, rendering a transparent depth and glow. Drawn by the way light interacts with paper pulp, @katiejhubbell sculpture draws inspiration from the soft, intricate forms within our bodies – referencing the fragile bones in our ears and other abstract organisms. Looking back at our event ‘How to Meet Again’ a performance born out of a LARP I conceived in response to @theoturpin ‘post-stop’ world in which we form the band ‘ The New Adolescents’. Hosted by @blacktowerprojects with the participation of @arielcaine @a___________________________z , Phil Serfaty and Theo Turpin and @louatessa . It’s the second LARP I design with the aim to find spaces for solidarity and care and a sense of companionship. #ecologyofcare
OTHER PEOPLE’S CHILDREN The myth of separation This is a fundraiser in support of replacing @bloom_and_curll - one of my favourite creative spaces ever - stolen bike. This is he & @mutterzine - another of my favourite creative spaces - support their young family both financially and myriad other ways. This session will explore the lack of support for parenting & the impacts of late-stage capitalism on (m)others. With close readings and workshopping we will explore ways to lean into the interconnectedness at the heart of our human existence. We will consider how (m)othering might help us move towards a fair, universal ecology of care. In voicing our truths, we hold the power to free ourselves in meaningful ways from a system that tries to keep us separate and therefore isolated and chained. We will dive into the idea that there is no such thing as other people’s children; a family in Bristol losing their income affects me in myriad ways, just as the deforestation of the Amazon, or the violence of not being listened to during pregnancy does – we are more intimately connected than many of those around may like us to believe. Now more than ever we need to place worth on the labour of parenting in a world so full of crises, and in doing so stand together to create a fair, sustainable, bright future for all the beings of this our planetary home. For a few years we haven’t really been seeing Mockingbirds around much, but this year they seem to be all over the place, thankfully. I love their songs and crazy mimicry. This one drops down near us when we go outside. I’m guessing this is a diversionary tactic to keep us away from a nearby nest. Many of our students are also Armenian, so we add "տեսք ունենալ"(phonetically: tesk’ unenal). The word for respect in Gabrieleño-Tongva is 'Shahoovenax'. When we take the time to learn about others -- to hear, see, taste, feel & remember their stories, know their context -- we are honoring them... then we can be better friends. This is a primary way we develop intimacy with others and with place. This is how we build resilient community and ecosystems. This is the way to an ecology of care.
