Typography Experimentation I really enjoyed playing with the word 'Balloon'. As part of the experimentation we were given a word at random and I was actually pleased with the word balloon as I knew I could play around with the typography. Texture Experimentation Once I managed to get the hang on the lettering on the print press, I introduced layered textures using paper and card. What does coffee, maple, and raisins go like together in a sourdough? Made with 1:15 ratio cold brew using @slow.mov (excellent specialty coffee from Barcelona) beans. Year 02_Project 03a_wax landscape Some of my wax landscape models where I poured melted wax over ice cubes and waited for the ice to melt to create voids in the wax. I experimented with different shapes of ice to try and get a interesting landscape. Quelques premiers aperçus de ma résidence de création dans l'atelier refuge du Sentier des Lauzes, en Ardèche. Trois semaines intenses et joyeuses à vivre là et à expérimenter de nouvelles techniques et sujets dans ce territoire des monts d'Ardèche, lui aussi nouveau pour moi, qui suis habitué à peindre dans les Alpes. Mais les pentes sont prononcées, la vallée est reculée. La nature est forte ici, le torrent est structurant, et j'ai pu retrouver le rapport habituel à une nature qui me dépasse. 🇬🇧 Here are some first impressions of my residency at the refuge studio in Sentier des Lauzes, in the Ardèche mounts. En matière de photographie d'art3, l'impression et les supports utilisés sont essentiels, en ce sens qu'ils forment un tout indissociable de la photographie. L'impression des photographies d'art utilise soit la technologie dite « argentique », soit la technologie dite « pigmentaire » (plus chère mais plus précise) qui monte en puissance depuis plusieurs années et les principaux matériaux utilisés pour l'encadrement sont le cadre avec passe-partout, le contre-collage sur aluminium et la caisse américaine. Donc je ne sais pas ce que c'est. En tout cas mon ordinateur, l'AI et moi sommes content du résultat.
Missteps are often viewed as signs of incompetence. However, I believe that experimentation is essential to drive meaningful results. Recently, our Human-Centered Leadership team hosted a 30-minute panel discussion utilizing new technology. We prepared, planned, and checked-in, yet the platform failed, and we had to cancel the discussion. It was a challenging experience, and I felt stressed, thinking that I failed, felt embarrassed, and disappointed our panelists and participants. However, I have a choice to make. Do I choose to replace my negative thoughts with positive ones, learn from experience, and shift how I feel, behave, and believe?! For those who know me, you already know the answer is yes. By practicing emotional agility, I will identify a better streaming platform, test it with a small group, and reschedule the event. I now feel better and closer to my belief that experimentation, which includes missteps, is integral to drive meaningful results. Weightless Architecture is an interactive installation created by Pharus and presented at Venice Design Biennale about the relationship between physical objects, human presence and empty spaces: how individual or collective movements help to build an environment and how the empty spaces around, act as objects, that create an experience. The sculpture acts as a performative interactive installation that responds to human presence - detected by sensors. The visitor acts as a modifying agent and the installation responds by deflating as passers stop before the structure. Indeed, transforming two-dimensional designs into three-dimensional ones enhances their usage and modification. It pushes us to think beyond flat surfaces, challenging our concept of spatiality in art. This three-dimensional shift provides a fresh perspective and unique interaction with the artwork. In conclusion, Weightless Architecture blends physical structures with human interaction. I am constantly immersed in a cycle of creation, exploring the boundaries of my pieces and discovering new outcomes. My inspiration comes from the various stages in the pottery-making process. Each step allows for infinite possibilities to expand on the piece. All of these endless options make ceramics an addicting art form for me. I shape clay into vessels that play with practicality, perfection, and form. I have learned to love the unpredictable outcomes of my pieces and embrace the beauty of their imperfections. I like to play with forms I have a lot of control over and shape them to where the clay wants to sit naturally. We had our 3rd firefly Adventure group call today, exploring, reviewing and experiencing this week’s theme of ‘Leaning into and Choosing Challenge’. I was particularly struck by a few things: 1) that people joined the call feeling ‘jangly, anxious, busy, tense / intense, focused, grateful’ and left feeling ‘lighter, hopeful, excited, curious, connected, contemplative, still intense - but definitely lighter’. It confirms what I already know, that when you bring people together in a shared experience, and create community, and add in a bit of playful adventuring, it has a fundamentally beneficial impact on how people feel. 2) that enabling people to *feel* what is going on in their body, through experience, and then see how this links to what goes on in their mind is so important for growth. We are a living, breathing, thinking and feeling human system. So often we pay attention to isolated parts, where as a focus on the whole system can have a profound impact on understanding, and awareness, and then the choices we make to affect positive change, for ourselves as individuals, for the people around us, and for the environment we are in. 3) that 4 (short) weeks ago this group of 11 Adventurers didn’t know each other and that today there was a synergy in their reflections alongside an openness to explore, to lean in to supporting and challenging each other, to asking for help from each other and to letting the Adventure before us continue to unfold. I end my week full of gratitude for the space we have co-created together. Another step along the path!
