Yesterday was International Day of the Boy. Did you mark it in any way? Did you even know about it? We celebrate International Day of the Girl loudly and rightly so, but boys are often overlooked when it comes to messages of empowerment, equity, wellbeing and transformation. Last week, I was a guest on a Mother’s Day edition of Voice of America’s TV show Our Voices, broadcast across 100+ African channels. The topic was on the Bond Between Mothers and Sons and we had a panel of hosts who were also boy mamas, as well as ‘word on the street’ interviews from fellow mothers of sons. We spoke about how staying connected to your boy, no matter how distant he might seem (eg in the teen years) is so important as he grows into manhood. You can do this through active listening, staying curious about his inner world, giving him space but also being a safe, loving, huggable space for whenever he needs it. 25 week bump and the cockapoo 🙈 24-25 week update Finally made it to viability week which as mum of who has experienced baby loss this is a huge milestone for me 🤍 My bump is so big now people keep telling me “you must not have long to go now” and “are you sure there’s only one in there” I have started with SPD which I’ve had with my other two but I‘’m struggling more this time I can barely walk and am in quite a lot of pain. Gentle exercise is not helping either. 🌻The newborn baby photoshoot for Magda and Marcel was unusual. Why? Because this session was made outdoors. There are the reasons why newborn sessions do not take place outside very often. Above all, as you can easily guess, the key here is the weather. Especially, the weather in Glasgow can be unpredictable. A combination of favourable weather, a grassy area, and some good logistics made it possible to photograph a 4-week-old infant boy. Well-rested Marcel, in his mother’s safe arms. Watching the surroundings with interest. A sunny warm day and shaded grass under the trees made the session possible. It gave the young mother and the newborn the comfort to work with me and the camera. If it happens in life, Marcel got hungry during the shooting and took a little nap. However, that’s what I love about this type of session. For the possibility of taking shoots of real everyday life. The beautiful mother with a wreath in her hair just radiates happiness. I am very proud of my models. Moreover, I would like to share with you some pictures from their sessions. I smile to myself all the time when I remember those carefree moments spent in the company of Magda and Marcel. Did I mention I truly love my job? The key aspect of all my session whether in-home on at location concentrate on showing the essence of love hidden in tender glazes and gesture. I have some SUPER exciting news (it’s at the end of this post!)... But before I reveal that... Do you agree that our internal life is rarely the same picture that others see?! Can you tell from this "happy" snap that all three of us were battling huge grief emotions? And, more importantly, can you relate to struggling with moments where sadness and joy coexist? We were at a Carfest festival shortly after my late husband had died... just me and our girls... we were loving the happy memories of an event we'd attended with him the year before, but we were crushed by the grief of his death only a month before this photo was taken. If you've followed me for a while you'll know my story, for those who don't know... the back story is that my gorgeous, kind and inspirational Royal Marine husband died on 11 July 2016 of oesophageal cancer. Heartbreakingly, he left me as solo parent of our two girls who were just six and eight years old at the time. The reality of a death is that the grief never goes... and I fully admit that I am still living a rollercoaster ride of emotions (for more of that see my stories!) but all storms eventually pass, and in the meantime we can go chasing rainbows and learn to dance in the rain! Spent such a beautiful morning @lanhydrocknt apart from getting lost, ending up in a blind panic and pushing the double buggy up a hill after doing the most exercise I've done all year. I think I nearly collapsed. I was supposed to come to the Victorian swimming pool ruins at the end of this walk, but my wrong turn meant I never found it. Little skin update, so I am 8 days in to using the @epionceuk products and I have definitely noticed a difference! My skin is more hydrated and has a lovely glow now 😊 my rosacea has settled down a little however after only 8 days I don’t expect to see a result just yet! Today I went into @sknclinics in Milton Keynes with the lovely Lily who did an @epionceuk Light Refresh Peel which is all part of the process in reviving and repairing my skin! As this was my 1st session we did one layer of the peel. I was a bit nervous on what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised that the sensation was that of a hot flush and slight tingling!
