We booked our annual Miles City Bucking Horse Sale trip next week, thinking we’re still a month out from her foaling date so we would be fine….Annie says guess again. 06.05.2024 🏥🔪 Finally under the knife, 5 days of agony and all but instant relief waking up in recovery. Haven’t heard from surgeon yet but I almost don’t care what they found because the pain is minimal in comparison. I am stoked they saved my tiny tummy aesthetically as the last thing we spoke about was the possibility of a full open laparotomy- ultimately I wanted whatever it took to just get out of pain but still glad they didn’t need to! Just got out of surgery, arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction on my ankle. Actually I have had the nicest day! My super husband booked an incredible hotel and a morning in the spa so got to the hospital super relaxed! Again superstar Toby was clever enough to know how accident prone I am and get health insurance, which we both have made pretty good use out of over the last couple of years 😅 super lucky to have had amazing treatment. Feeling motivated to use my recovery time as productively as possible and really work on my rehab. The smile says it all…some horses are just better than others! Earlier this year we lost Justice’s 4H mare. She struggled through the summer on a mare I got for myself as a project; who at times can have some quirks/opinions you have to work through, making summer riding a little rough for Justice at times but she stuck with it and worked through the issues. Fast forward to the end of year 4H ride… we were going out of town for the weekend so I didn’t think much of it because we weren’t going to be home. Last minute we come home early and I’m short a riding horse for myself. Good idea, bad idea I head out to the pasture and Grab Cherry 🍒, one of our driving mares that’s at just 5yrs old is solid as they come and never phased by anything. I throw a saddle on her and hop on and walks off like a champ, never phased by any of it. (Honestly not the first time I’ve done this with a good broke driving horse, so I wasn’t too worried… especially with this mare) 40 minutes later I load her on the trailer and off we go to the trail ride. The intention was for me to ride her, but shortly in it became evident that Justice’s mare was having a day 🙄despite being worked before we left, so I made the decision to swap horses. Cherry never missed a beat and Justice had a great time… (me lol… I sat the jig the entire ride, mostly at a side pass while doing other fancy unasked for dressage moves 🤦🏼♀️) Only problem is, now Justice wants a 4H ready clyde mare for next year 😂. Guess I better find some time to do some fine tuning under saddle on one we plan on keeping. Even funnier we had the biggest and the smallest horses there. Tuff was on Sparky at 12.2h and Justice on Cherry at 17’2. I cannot say enough great things about Ms. Rowe and how grateful we are that Max was placed in her first grade class. She is fun, firm, fair, caring and encourages curiosity in her class. Max learns wherever they are (her classroom, their garden, on field trips, even walking down the hall) because she is always teaching them something and asking them questions. School horses are the backbone of our sport!! They give their very best, and they deserve ours in return!! I’ve noticed some changes in Eliza’s gaits and her normal maintenance didn’t seem to do the trick so we took new X-rays to check to see what other assistance she needed. It was really sweet to walk in in between lessons to hear the girls who had been riding her (who now have other ponies) worrying about her. I immediately got, “Miss Tiffany, what’s wrong with Eliza??” I reassured them that she is fine, just needed some care to keep her happy and healthy!
