Day 3 recap ✨ Typhoon Lagoon & Hollywood Studios ✨ Apparently this was a day of not many photos, but it was a pretty busy one! Started off the day with a slow one at the resort, ✨home✨. Then it was time for some fun at Typhoon Lagoon. Lots of time in the kids area, the lazy river and some slides - it was SUPER HOT so we didn’t last too long ☀️ Then it was straight to Hollywoooood for a much needed Starbucks, a 10/10 dinner at Mama Melrose, a couple of rides & the new Tower of Terror cookie from Joffrey’s. This year would have been the 20th anniversary of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure. The attraction opened on May 5, 2004, to help pull more numbers into a park that was struggling at the time. Based on the original attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios, it opened with a variety of similarities and differences. Like its east-coast counterpart, the attraction took guests into a haunted hotel lost in the Twilight Zone. The building, however, was smaller with Pueblo Deco style architecture found throughout Southern California during the Golden Age of Hollywood; and with three elevator shafts instead of two. The ridethrough also strongly differed from the original, keeping guests within the elevator shaft while offering a new scene where they saw themselves disappear into the Twilight Zone. Also unlike the original, California's version only offered one drop sequence, though this drop sequence I always preferred to the ones in Florida due to the fact that it ended with your elevator plunging from the top floor. Disney California Adventure's version of the attraction closed in 2017 to make way for Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!, the early stage of the park's newest addition: Avengers Campus. The new attraction still utilizes the same building and ride, but with a different theme that takes guests into the Collector's fortress where they must help Rocket Raccoon break out the Guardians. While I agree with the common consensus that California's version of the attraction was inferior the Florida's, and with all due respect, inferior to what replaced it (sorry fellow Twilight Zone fans, but the Marvel version exceeded my expectations and won me over), it still has a place in my heart, for I made so many memories there. I always made sure to visit California's version of the attraction and I appreciated its unique differences. I am grateful that we can still experience the California version with spine-tingling enhancements at Disneyland Paris, and that we can still experience the original and best Tower of Terror of all at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
