Sang Som 🇹🇭🥃 Aged in charred oak barrels for five years. They actually listed this one as a Rum, not a “ThaiWhiskey” aka Rum. Heading back to the US tomorrow, and the only thing I miss is my dog and whiskey selection😂. Truly had an amazing time in Thailand but besides the airport, bourbon is pretty much nonexistent. As far as everything I’ve had from here, the Blend 285 was my favorite and then this one. Although, the only true whisky was the 285. Next post will be back to the good Ol’ American Whiskey! That time of the week review time...... Today I reviewing @sangsomexp Spiced rum About SangSom rum Sang Som is a famous Thai rum, 40% alcohol by volume. It is also commonly referred to as Thai whiskey. Sang Som was first introduced to the market in 1977 and since then it has grown to be the largest selling spirit in Thailand. Whilst known as a whisky in Thailand, Sang Som is actually a molasses-based dark rum Prep... 2 shots of Sang Som Topped with coke Over large cubed ice cube. First impressions. Smell.... On the nose beautiful smelling rum very mild on the nose with a hint of honey. One of the better smelling rums I have reviewed to date. Taste.... So a mouthful of this rum and coke and its very mild, a little bit of honey on the tongue but that's all, this is not a criticism but a overall thumbs up to this. No burn, ndoes not overpower the rum and makes it a lovely drink overall. Recommend- I would recommend lovely rum, definitely a dark horse for people who want to try something different and out the box. 8/10 Price range- Online for £16 to £20 Well worth a punt at that price. En Thaïlande la législation ne permet pas d’embouteiller un spiritueux titrant plus de 40%. Ce rhum pur jus de canne de chez @issanrum a donc été re distillé en Provence par @guillaumeferroni pour atteindre 57% ! Doublement distillé en Pot Still le rhum a ensuite été mis au repos en Dame Jeanne. Chose rare dans l’élaboration d’un rhum, les Cannes sont pelées avant d’être pressées. Le jus mis en fermentation est donc d’une grande pureté. Cela se ressent dans le verre. La canne est soyeuse, le rhum est huileux. Ce pur jus est velouté et très gourmand. N’ayant pas goûté le rhum officiel de chez @issanrum je ne peux pas comparer les deux versions. Les 40% me bloquent un peu c’est dommage… une version a 50% m’aurait plus attirer. En tout cas, ce pur jus thaïlandais est une très belle découverte. Il est devenu quasi introuvable ! Si par chance vous croisez une de ces quilles foncez !! A we wtorek zrobimy wycieczkę do Tajlandii 🇹🇭 Mekhong Thai Spirit znany jest wszystkim jako whiskey, tak naprawdę dużo bardziej jest zbliżony do rumu (w Tajlandii nawet alkohol nie jest tym, na który wygląda 😅). Produkowany jest od 1941 roku i na tyle szybko stał się najpopularniejszą marką, że jest prawie narodowym trunkiem. Twórcą był browarnik James Honzatko, zamieszkujący w pobliżu rzeki Mekong, wzdłuż której toczyły się spory terytorialne w tamtych latach. Destylat składa się w 95% z trzciny cukrowej/melasy i w 5% z ryżu. Następnie dodaje się strzeżoną tajemnicą mieszankę tajskich ziół i przypraw, co nadaje mu wyjątkowego smaku. Pomiędzy smakiem trawy cytrynowej, delikatnie przebija się pikantniejsza nutka, za to zapach zdecydowanie wygrywa imbir, zaraz za nim owoce cytrusowe. Finish jest intensywnie waniliowy. La marque renvoie au fleuve 💧 qui traverse Bangkok, le mythique Chao Phraya. Chez Phraya, la production est effectuée au sein de la distillerie Sangsom, fondée en 1977 et située dans le berceau historique du pays, la province du Nakhon Pathom. Les rhums sont fait à partir de cannes à sucre locales. L’ensemble est par la suite vieillis entre 7 et 12 ans en fûts ex-Bourbon, après une distillation en alambic à colonne. Le design de cette bouteille est magnifique et renvoie à l’iconographie thaïlandaise que l’on peut trouver par exemple dans les temples. Nez 👃 : Un équilibre fruité et riche, porté discrètement par un chêne blanc assez tendre. Les fruits sont bien mûrs, gorgés de sucre, ils sont accompagnés de fruits secs comme la datte ou la figue. On distingue également quelques fruits à coque très doux et de la chair de coco écrasée. Après quelques minutes dans le verre, avec l’aération, le rhum prend plus d’ampleur et de gras, toujours dans un équilibre assez remarquable. Bouche 👄 : Délicatement épicée, délivrant ce fameux équilibre de fruits mûrs et de bois blanc et tendre. La gourmandise est très présente. Les épices saisissent ensuite le palais en milieu de bouche, pour une phase étonnamment sèche et astringente. 📍Chalong Bay Distillery Haven’t traveled in a while due to Covid-19, so I’ve been looking at pictures from my last adventures.
