I find it interesting to step back and look at the overall tone of someone's feed. Sometimes the color tone is intentional, sometimes not. Someone from the northwest (like this image from Redwood National Park) may have an overall green tone. Some love that Utah red and will post canyon photos all year long, even if they live in Sacramento. I must say, my Utah canyon photos always do well so it isn't a bad strategy. Beach and tropic enthusiasts typically have a blue tone. Sunrise/sunset pages are bright orange/red. Although kind of breaks down with mountain pages. it took a lot of effort to get access to #talltreegrove @redwoodnps only allow 50 permits per day and it’s behind a locked gate that I need to open and locked when entering and leaving - it’s a 4 miles lollipop trail with a steep out and back trail that leads to a grove home to some of the largest #redwoods in the world - it’s worth every effort though being surrounded by these ancient giants is surreal - it’s also the first time I hiked without my hiking boots because this girl planned and packed everything for this #hikingadventures but managed to forget the hiking boots at home 🤦🏻♀️- this is my #hike3 of #52hikechallenge2022 @52hikechallenge #52HikeChallengeNationalParksSeries

National Parks of West Coast #4 REDWOODS NATIONAL AND STATE PARKS, California . Spot me in the first picture? Was lucky enough to visit before the onset of crazy fires in this area! Childhood dream come true- intrigued by Chandelier Tree picture I saw in my Childcraft bookset as 8 year old- I wanted to see these giants in person. The scale was absolutely astonishing. Hiked Tall Tree Grove Trail (permit required) - 4 miles, 1600 ft elevation gain! Immediately after the hike I started my 10 hrs drive back to Seattle- was completely exhausted by the morning but the views were totally worth it. . . REALIZATION OF BIGGER THINGS IN LIFE! Tall ass trees! 🌲These dense, fog fed, ancient, coast dwelling species communicate above ground + underground thru sounds,👂 scents,👃 signals, ⚠️ + some smart shared systems such as water & nutrient networks to nourish or signals to warn of distress from drought + disease. 🌲Damn. 🌲Despite growing 300-400 ft tall, they possess shallow root systems only 5-6 ft deep. •Redwoods National Park• ~Tall Tree Grove~ For our first anniversary, my husband and I decided to see as many California national parks as we could in two weeks. So we flew out (yes, packed all our camping gear in two large bags!), rented a car & drove up and down the coast of California. That was three years ago this month. So each Monday of June, I plan on highlighting our favorite parts of these parks! Starting with Redwoods Tall Tree Grove - the oldest redwoods in the park. By reservation only, we were one of the few lucky allowed to explore it. Even better, we were one of the few back country camping on the other side of the river. Meaning, we got to hike through the Tall Tree Grove to get to our campsite and the next morning (after eating breakfast on the rocky beach in the shadow of these giants) we hiked back up out - the only ones enjoying the peaceful shadows of these ancient trees. Today is a rainy northern Cali day🌧☔️. It’s beautiful, but not my favorite for camping. We have been pretty lucky with having great weather (thank you to the desert climate), so learning to embrace the clouds, rain, and mild temps. If you know me you know I like hot, dry and sunny weather! Anyways, today we are crossing the border into Oregon. Northern Cali has been great! It’s understandably been difficult for finding campsites as all state and National parks are still day use only, but we are managing. Redwood NP was open and we found a couple sweet remote camping spots along the coast. So much is still unknown about how this trip will all shake out and we are just taking it one day at a time. Crosby woke up this morning and said, “Where are we going next?” Scott replied, “That’s a great question. We have no clue!” I have dreamed of having this freedom. I can think of many times being exhausted from work, kids, and all the other day to day things we do, saying to myself, “I wish I could just get in my car and drive...” This morning I woke up a bit bummed by the weather and then remembered that today we get to just get in the van and drive, with no plans, no to-do list, NOTHING! Just be one of the first 50 people at the visitors center each day. The permit has a code to the gate, which is changed daily, so don’t get any ideas. 😉 . . The redwoods are amazing! I’ve never felt so short in my life, haha. We told Brecken we’d be back to get her after she counted all the rings in this tree.
