Wednesday, after breaking camp, we grabbed some donuts at the mercantile in El Portal and headed for the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Located down in the southern tip of Yosemitie, it takes about an hour to get there. The drive was beautiful of course, and we hit the Wawona visitor center on the way. The Wawona Hotel, one of those old western looking lodge hotels is there as well as the studio where the Hudson Valley school painter Thomas Hill had his studio home. Once we finished exploring a bit, we drove to the Grove, parked the car, and rode a shuttle bus to see the biggest damn trees I'd seen in my long ass life. They're big. Seriously big. Have I said how big they are? I thought so. We probably could have skipped it, seeing as how we saw more and just as big or bigger trees the next day at Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. The shuttle was a bit annoying, and it was a bit crowded, but thats ok, we saw some big trees! Back to the valley for the night at Curry Village! #roadtrip #yosemitenationalpark #bigasstrees
