Spring has sprung and I was in the mood for something fruity. I decided to pop open this Speyburn 10 year which I picked up for under $40. A budget single malt? Yes please. I’m very happy with the fruity funk coming out of the glass. Fresh cut grass? Stewed pears and apples covered in a caramel glaze, with a whiff of cheese? Strange but somehow satisfying. 💙 SPEYBURN DISTILLERY 💙 The beginning of the distillery lowdown from this year's @spirit_speyside begins with a trip to the gorgeous @speyburn_whisky. Opened in 1897, it has only been open to the public for a year and what an absolute beauty it is. The original drum maltings are a feat of engineering and in a beautiful baby blue, with signs of its use in WW2 to house Scottish Artillery regiments in the form of names written into the wooden pillars. I got to walk OVER steaming worm tubs for the first time, stand in its 2,000 cask strong dunnage warehouse and even try a dram of its 75yo too. The dust has settled after this year's @spirit_speyside Festival and we’re looking back on what was a very special Saturday evening at Speyburn Distillery. Speyburn After Hours was a celebratory event to mark the one-year anniversary since we first opened our doors to visitors. An evening of live music, delicious street food and some very special drams inside our dunnage warehouse, and Scotland’s only listed intact Drum Maltings, it was a night to remember for all those who managed to snatch up the highly sought after tickets. Named in honour of the world-class Salmon fishing found on the superbly clean waters of the River Spey, Bradan Orach, Gaelic for ‘Golden Salmon’ is a gloriously bright single malt scotch whisky that will delight and excite from the first sip to finish. Matured in American White Oak ex-bourbon casks that lend a subtle vanilla flavour to the dram. Nose: Apple blossom, lemon, honey Palate: Creamy honey and vanilla with a hint of green apple and apricot. Final Thoughts: Lights, sweet and blossoming, this dram unfolds as gently as the sun peeking through the trees on the first day of spring.
