We LOVE hearing from our Certified Users! Mia shared her experience and what she loves most about Ampcare. She says, "A patient came to me post-op from her cervical fusion surgery. There were some complications during her procedure that resulted in aphonia and moderate dysphagia. When I first started my clinical fellowship, I was stressed about finding the most perfect materials that would be adaptable to any patient. I had my pile of workbooks and thought I was good to go. I quickly found that my patients (and myself included) became bored of these activities. My patients got better at these structured tasks, but still had ongoing challenges that impacted participation doing functional activities. Dyslexia Dyslexia is a learning disorder that is related to language, which affects reading, writing, and spelling. It is a neurobiological condition that involves difficulties with phonological processing and decoding language. Because individuals with dyslexia have a slower time decoding words, they also present with comprehension difficulties. Characteristics of Dyslexia: - Phonemic awareness (difficulty rhyming, blending, segmenting, manipulating sounds in the placement of the word (e.g. “stop becomes tops”, alliteration) · Inability to sequence sounds · Difficulty associating letters and sounds. · Difficulty in spelling is due to the inability to recognize individual sounds in a word and recognize that sounds are made up of one or more letters. · Learning how to read · Read very slowly (effortful) · Difficulty remembering names and sounds. It’s being able to have the difficult conversations and feel confident in asking for what you need, or saying no. It’s being able to set strong boundaries and keep them.
