So I threw this on because I haven't listened to it yet but also because there is a story from my radio daze regarding The Ramones and Trent Reznor.In the mid-90's The Edge studios on Bloor Street hosted a bunch of bands on the same days well the host Kim Hughes had a magazine featuring Trent Reznor on the cover and either Johnny or Joey defaced the magazine cover and then left, so Trent sits down to do the interview and sees the cover.It was a great day for music that day at least for me lol. More on that when the time comes… But eventually I discovered they had other songs and this was one of the ones that made my ears prick up. A brilliant slice of punk pop. I had a mate called Jimmybin these days and, well you can imagine. The record shop where I bought a large majority of my records was Groucho’s in Dundee. They often sold singles that had no cover and when they did they put them in these cardboard sleeve, wrote the title and the price on too. While Talking Heads weren't quite the first, and while Fear of Music (1979) already pointed in this direction, Remain In Light was the bold statement that properly brought post-punk and Afrobeat together - and that made it work. Side A is a powerhouse of jagged, funky, rattling polyrhythms: it may not have 'Once In A Lifetime', but it's the best Talking Heads side by a mile. Happy 69th birthday, Anton Corbijn! Born May 20, 1955. The Dutch photographer, film director, and music video director has been one of my favorites for years! I've been following his work ever since I discovered him in the late '80s. I even met him once in Oslo in 2005, where he signed my copy of Star Trak. Swipe to see. Corbijn made his feature film debut with Control, a film about the life of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis. Corbijn took the iconic photo of Joy Division at Lancaster Gate Underground Station in November 1979. Corbijn also directed the video for Atmosphere with the single's re-release in 1988. He is responsible for the look of so many bands, especially Depeche Mode and U2, which have worked together for 3 decades.
