Saturday's read in my Halloween read-a-thon... Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury was EPIC! I was hooked after the opening paragraph, and the prose immediately called to mind two of my favourite other horror novels with similar travelling carnival vibes: 'The Travelling Vampire Show' by Richard Laymon (God Tier) and 'Twilight Eyes' by Dean Koontz, which is my favourite book in the world. In fact these two books have so jug in common with the first that I can't help but feel like they might be homages. This novel combines beautiful, thought-provoking writing with actual chills and lots of tension, and I adore the fact that the true horror in this is entertained with our fear of losing our youth. It's by no means a light read so you're gonna want your brain switched on and caffeinated for this one... but it's definitely worth your time and focus. Five stars! Can't wait to get it in paperback! #halloweenreads #halloweenreading #scarybooks #scarybooksarethebest #somethingwickedthiswaycomes #raybradbury #classicbooks #scarybookreview #fivestarbooks #halloweenreading🎃📚🎃 #halloweenreadingrecommendations #halloweenreadingrecs

More fans of Margo:) Review from @dark_deadly_reads below! ・・・ You can feel the tension in this one from the start and the dislike for Margo is there from the beginning. Every time she opened her mouth I was thinking who does this bitch think she is. This was a really quick and enjoyable novella. It was easy to read and you were genuinely interested in the characters and their stories. Even old Margo. I did wish that there was a little more to the story especially once the action really kicks in. This would be a great winter read and I’m definitely interested in reading more from Matt Micheli. #bookreview #mattmicheli #thewhite #horrorbooks #thrillerbooks #horrorbookreview #winterhorrorbook #TheWhite #shorthorrorbook #scarybookreview

Deciding to reread this book that formed a huge part of my childhood and makes me highly nostalgic was one of the best things I could’ve done recently. I remember reading this as a small horror story geek and absolutely adoring it, I can still picture myself silently turning on my night lamp after my parents told me good night and left my room, just so I could get to read more pages, more chapters & more spooky stories ( /^ω^)/. I couldn’t give this book any less than 5/5 stars as I have only fond memories regarding it and will be passing it onto my closest friends and family members in the foreseeable future :). • QOTD: What book is nostalgic for you? • #chrispriestley #chrispriestleybook #chrispriestleybooks #creepybooks #middlegrade #middlegradebooks #horror #horrorbooksforkids #scarystories #halloweenbooks #halloweenreads #halloweenliterature #scarybooks #scaryliterature #scarybookreview

🍄𝕊𝕡𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨🍄 Mexican Gothic follows a bold and hardened socialite as she tries to figure out what ails her beloved cousin. This book truly does live up to its gothic title. From the description of the house to the manner in which all activities are done, there isn't one thing out of its gothic place. The haunting takes some twists and turns into pretty gross territory, while still maintaining that dark macabre that draws you in. It's a story of family, history, and the supernatural. I really enjoyed where the story started and where it went, so I highly recommend Mexican Gothic, if your stomach can handle it. ;) . Full review on this one is on the podcast! You know what’s actually scarier than October and Halloween? Thinking about what would happen to people in the US if Trump is re-elected 🙈 In honor of the upcoming election, I thought it was appropriate to review Cleo McDougal Regrets Nothing – a quirky, cute, quick book that follows hopeful presidential candidate Cleo McDougal. Quick Synopsis: Cleo McDougal, current senator, is plotting her run for presidential office, then her ex-best friend publishes an exposé about how she does not believe Cleo is suited for presidency. The whole book follows Cleo, needing to do damage control about the exposé, and reveals Cleo’s list of regrets and her journey to unapologetically right her wrongs. This book was lighthearted and easy to read but also was very empowering for women. It covered a few different deeper topics, which I always love in a book: the #metoo movement, navigating being a woman in a male dominated career, being a single mother, etc. Things I liked: 👍🏼 This book was a quick, easy palate cleanser book between heavier books but it wasn’t like a steamy romance novel and it still had depth to it! 👍🏼 The humanization of people that we hold on a pedestal – Cleo was a REAL person, not just a persona A few things I didn’t like: 👎🏼 The book was not in first person (which I believe would’ve added to Cleo’s character as a whole) 👎🏼 Because of that, the author continually referred to her as “Cleo McDougal” throughout the whole book (which got kind of repetitive and annoying) Quick note: this book takes about 50 pages to get into. The first half of the book moves at a much slower pace than the second half. Thank you so much to @amazonpublishing for this #gifted copy of #CleoMcDougalRegretsNothing

If you read a book before you had bookstagram did you even really read it....? I read The Silent Patient a few months before I made my booksta, but regardless I figured it was time to post a review of this book in honor of Spooktober! Quick synopsis: Alecia is an artist who has the perfect life until one day she decides to murder her husband andddddd never speaks again. Theo, a psychotherapist, thinks that Alecia is his dream patient and he is determined to make her speak/confess/solve the mystery. Silent Patient had such an interesting premise it was hard not to be drawn in instantly. The chapters are short and you can easily read *just* one more. The book was fast-paced, but also dark and slow at the same time. The majority of the book takes place in a mental health institution and I was hoping this book to be more of a commentary on mental health or at least explore mental health a bit more but, ya can't win em all, right?  When it comes to the ending I did enjoy that I definitely didn't guess where it was going - I'm not the thriller expert so maybe that's why but it definitely kept me on my toes. I will say, though, that the ending felt a bit flat only in the sense that I feel like I was left with quite a few questions and it felt a little unsatisfying/unrealistic. Overall, it was a good thriller, would definitely recommend AND I think it was an excellent debut by author, Alex Michaelides. PS - My friend listened to this book on audio and LOVED it - so if you're more of an audiobook person then check it out!

**WARNING: 3rd PICTURE HAS SCARY CONTENT** Yo, anyone remember this book? I found it on my bookshelf at home: Skeleton Creek, by Patrick Carman. When I was a kid, I remember making myself watch the videos over and over until I wasn't scared anymore. I love horror and nostalgia, so I wanted to read the book and watch the videos and laugh, thinking "how could this have possibly scared me?" The writing level is average for 11-14 year olds. The acting was bad. Very bad. But then there was Old Joe Bush, the ghost character in the story. The appearences in the videos were... chilling. And for someone who loves horror... even I was a little freaked. I dare you to go watch the last video. sarahfincher.com , password: tanginabarrons #scary #book #scarybook #bookreview #scarybookreview #video #scaryvideo #skeletoncreek
