S. エリオットの「四つの四重奏曲」から採られた。耳のイラストと線で描かれたビルと円形のオブジェクトのコラージュ。詩の内容と関連するのかはわからない。ジャケットに使われている文字はステンシル・フォント（型紙の上からスプレーで塗装するときの字形に似ていることから付けられたフォント名）。 ダブルジャケットの内側にはオヤジの顔が大きくある。怖い。右側には録音に参加したメンバー。 プレス用のシートには「The Pirate’s Dream」がCOLOSSEUMの次のアルバムタイトルであったと記されている。アルバムは傑作。CDに追加されたDickがライブ活動をするために組んだDICK HECKSTALL-SMITH BANDが演奏したこのアルバムからのスタジオ・ライブ音源3曲と、さらに同じメンバーでバンド名をMANCHILDと変更したスタジオ音源2曲が素晴らしい。かつてCOLOSSEUMで共に活動したJames Litherlandと彼が組んでいたバンドのリズムセクション+キーボーディストがメンバー。MANCHILDは1973年に後はDickによるサックスパートのミックスをすれば完成というところまでアルバムを完成させていた。しかしそこでDickは病気療養することになり活動停止。のちにその時のラフミックス段階の2曲がカセットの状態で見つかりここに収録されることになった。その後さらに4トラックのマスターが発見されたが今のところMANCHILDのアルバムはリリースされていない。 Dick Heckstall-Smith’s debut album is effectively Colosseum’s 4th studio album. The notes state the title comes from British poet T.S. Eliot’s “Four Quartets”. While the album itself is superb, additionally it includes 3 studio live tracks of the Dick Heckstall-Smith Band he put together for live work playing this material, plus 2 more studio tracks recorded under the band name #MANCHILD but with the same personnel. This bonus content is magnificent. The notes don’t clearly specify, but former #Colosseum member #JamesLitherland and his band’s rhythm section also participate. MANCHILD had completed recording an entire album’s worth of original material by 1973, needing only Dick’s sax parts to be mixed, but then he fell ill forcing all activity to cease. Later, rough mixes of two tracks from those sessions were found on cassette and included here. "JOY OF A TOY" BY KEVIN AYERS (1969) 2012 REISSUE BY VINILISSSIMO (SPAIN) purchased from @obscurerecords_forsale After leaving the Soft Machine at the end of their 1968 US tour with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Kevin Ayers was ready to leave music behind. However, Jimi Hendrix gifted Kevin with a Gibson J-200 acoustic guitar on one condition: that he continued writing songs. As a result, Kevin took off for Ibiza, wrote songs, wrote more songs on his return to London and hooked up with former Pink Floyd manager Peter Jenner. Signed to EMI Records' Harvest sub-label, this album was recorded for the then-exorbitant cost of 4000 GBP (71,000 GBP in 2022). Assisted by former bandmates Robert Wyatt, Mike Ratledge and Hugh Hopper, Kevin also recruited Paul Buckmaster, David Bedford, Jeff Clyne, Rob Tait and Paul Minns. With such amazing talent, Kevin recorded a strong debut and it started off his idiosyncratic and never-boring career.
