Gong - Gazeuse (1976) . This is Gong going completely jazz fusion, with Daevid Allen having made his exit. The result is... actually quite good. The second part of "Percolations" turns boring at least when the drum solo comes, but otherwise the quality is high all over, even though I may not be personally so much into "Mireille" but even those kind of gentle moments are apparently needed. There seems to be no notable difference between Pierre Moerlen and Allan Holdsworth compositions. STEVE HILLAGE - Fish Rising 🇬🇧 UK, 1973 Personaggio simbolo della scena di Canterbury, Hillage è noto soprattutto per la militanza nei Gong, con cui ha registrato la famosa trilogia "Radio Gnome Invisible"; ma ha all'attivo anche importanti collaborazioni e una nutrita discografia solista. "Fish Rising" è il suo debutto, molto legato ai Gong sia come musica che come testi: non deve stupire, dato che ci suonano praticamente tutti i membri della band, come il tastierista Tim Blake, il batterista Pierre Moerlen e il fiatista Didier Malherbe. Molto presenti anche gli elementi space, retaggio di un altro precedente gruppo di Hillage, i Khan. La lunga Solar Musick Suite, che copre gran parte del lato A, è sicuramente il brano migliore. "Fish Rising" by #SteveHillage. You can listen to this #record on loop and move yourself from #music to thoughts and from thoughts back to music. You can listen to it for hours. It reminds me of #Gong but it is less intrusive -without being ambient it is rich and suggestive. I have discovered an interesting fact about musical evolution in #England: the #Canterbury sound mutated into #jazz-rock (there are many proofs: the evolved #SoftMachine, #Hatfield&TheNorth...) and that what I like is the stuff before mutation. Jazz-rock seeks to create, accumulate and juxtapose musical landscapes; Canterbury seeks to create only the right ones and go on with them, develop them. Gong — Shamal [1976] The sixth studio album by Gong released on Virgin Records, produced by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. Shamal represents a major pivot point in the band's history between the original Daevid Allen lineup and Pierre Moerlen's offshoot group from 1976 on. Personal tensions slowly rose during the year before, leading first to the dismissal of synth-player Tim Blake and the departure of Daevid Allen soon after. Pierre Moerlen was left in charge of the band which dramatically changed the lineup, replacing drummer Brian Davison, as well as adding percussionist Mireille Bauer, violinist Jorge Pinchevsky, and Patrice Lemoine on synthesizers and keyboards. The tumultous times continued as Shamal was being recorded with longtime guitarist Steve Hillage and vocalist/keyboardist Miquette Giraudy leaving halfway through the sessions as well. Ultimately Virgin Records executive Simon Draper had to personally intervene in the disputes, eventually electing to have Moerlen offically lead the group. The huge changes in personnel and concepts from session to session created a sound that was incredibly ecclectic from track to track compared to the much more straightforward psych and prog sound they had become known for. This album is an exciting sonic adventure filled with swirling blasts of marimbas and xylophones, sweeping flute solos, and gorgeous sax phrases backed by rich and funky bass lines. Well my friends, this 1977 released incredible double live album by #gong is where long ago my journey into their unique universe started. A friend of mine had this album and it blew me away somewhere halfway during the ‘80’s when I first heard it. Taped it and listened to it a lot back then. Only much later found my own copy of this #liveetc album, the etc indicating there are next to live tracks from different tours between 73-75 also some till then non album studio efforts. A very interesting period, as the oldest take has the band in full flow during their #radiognometrilogy albums, and the latter live recordings are taken during the transformative period in 75, where #daevidallen had already left, yet #stevehillage was still in the band, to leave soon after before the release of #shamal and the band becoming a more #jazzrock outfit in stead of the wacky psychedelic #spacerock of their first phase. So maybe you could say this album a bit like snippets put together and non cohesive. Yet for me, it doesn’t feel so. Of course there are the different line ups and partly studio tracks and recorded for radio broadcasts parts, still it is all so awesomely brilliant stuff. 23 de octubre de 1952. Nace Pierre Moerlen en Colmar, Francia. Fue un baterista y percusionista francés, mejor conocido por su trabajo con Gong y Mike Oldfield y como Gong de Pierre Moerlen. En 1973 se unió a Gong, banda de jazz-rock vanguardista y experimental, con la que seguiría ligado durante toda su vida y de la que terminaría siendo el alma mater. Su gran habilidad con las percusiones le valdría su colaboración con Percussions de Strasbourg y posteriormente la grabación de varios álbumes con Mike Oldfield. Durante los ochenta colabora con la banda sueca Tribute y reformaría Gong con la participación de su hermano Benoit a los vibráfonos y de Hansford Rowe al bajo. En los años 90 se trasladó a Broadway para participar como batería en grandes musicales como Evita, West Side Story, Los miserables, o Jesucristo Superstar. Tras una fugaz participación con el grupo Brand X, se dedicó a la enseñanza, hasta su muerte el 3 de mayo de 2005 en Estrasburgo, Francia. #PierreMoerlen
Celebramos hoy también el que habría sido el cumpleaños número 71 de Pierre Moerlen, baterista de una de las etapas más importantes de Gong @gongband Pierre se unió a Gong en 1973 y rápidamente se convirtió en una fuerza central dentro del grupo. Su habilidad para mezclar el jazz con el rock progresivo le dio a la banda un sonido distintivo que, bajo su dirección, derivó en lo que muchos consideran la "era de jazz-fusion" de Gong. Los álbumes producidos durante esta época, como "Gazeuse!" y "Expresso II", son testimonio de su genialidad y de su capacidad para llevar el sonido de la banda a nuevas alturas. Aunque muchos lo recuerdan principalmente por su trabajo con Gong, Moerlen también colaboró con una serie de artistas destacados, incluyendo a Mike Oldfield, con quien tuvo una relación musical durante muchos años. Oldfield produced Crises with drummer Simon Phillips, who also plays on the album.

開封の儀と視聴、、 長いこと放置していたMikeのCD+DVD BOX 5DISCを開封しました。 昨日は、PVとBBC TV Top of the Pops、1983年ウェンブリーでのアルバムリリース記念コンサート（クライシスとTB 1の2曲）を観ました。 今朝の一枚🎵 Mike Oldfield/CRISIS 1983年 いままであまり意識してなかったけど、このジャケットって、やはり地球の危機だったんですね。 高層ビルの一部屋だけ明かりが付いてるのも意味があるのかも、あと波止場の男もww 5.1サラウンドミックスを聴いてます。 リビングのステレオは、エアコン効かないので 自室の小さいテレビから出力してますが、 AQUOSのデジタルハイビジョンは優秀で サラウンドでまあまあイイ音になっています。 メニュー画面から、高音、低音のバランスを補正でき、 音質補正のモードが通常、映画と音楽番組、ニュースと3種類あって、変えてみたらこれも効果がありましたww 低音を少し持ち上げて、大きくしたらイイ感じです。 さらにミックスが違うので、通常盤では聴こえ難かった音、例えば救急車の音とか回り込んで聴こえました。 さらに曲の始めと終わりも変えてるのがわかりました。 ムーンライト〜のイントロのギターがハモリのみとコレも面白い🎵 新たなもう一枚のアルバムとして楽しめます。 DVDなので、音楽が流れているバックには、ジャケの一部のアップがスローで動いてます。 #今日の一枚 #nowplaying #mikeoldfield #anthonyglynne #davidhentschel #simonphillips #maggiereilly #philspalding #pierremoerlen #morrispert #jonanderson #barrypalmer #rogerchapman
