5/22/2024 - Two Weeks Ago… 👑 The day he added “McGilliard” to his list of names. Life feels very much the same with this littlest young king of ours, since he’s been a part of our family for over 4.5 years. This day was made more special with friends — along with our social workers and case manager and CASA (and family & yet more friends over Zoom) — showing up to support us on a day that felt like it would never happen. Brandon’s bestie, Blake (with her mom & older sister) came too! This family friendship came at such a significant time… as another family with transracially adopted + bio kiddos, it is a sweet reminder of God’s provision of community — in the right place, at the right time, to walk alongside one other. 💔❤️‍🩹❤️ ‘Cause this journey is lifelong; it’s just beginning for our fam… [📸: 5/8/2024. I keep hearing people talking with so much fear that the next generation is going to be completely destroyed and all that. I want to ask, as parents, Sunday school teachers, Christian parents, and adults, what are you teaching your children? When you see a challenge you are to think of the solution to it, you are not to join the complaint and be hopeless. Because scripture says: Proverbs 22:6 ESV Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Last night, I sat with a few parents and they still made this complaint and it got to me. Instead of us looking at how bad the social media is and the world around us becoming dangerous, why don’t we have the vision of saying ‘I will pay attention to raising my children’? I will pay attention to giving the best and the truth to every child that comes around me. The Children's Day is very close. Again, we are about to celebrate our children. But I think there is a part of our children that we are not remembering; the part that we are stewards. God gave them to us as seeds to raise. They are arrows that we are sending to the next generation where we cannot reach. It is our duty as parents to forge the character of our children, to raise end-time giants, to raise men and women that will stand to defend the truth, that will stand with morals, with good character. I trust God will help us to do the right thing in the name of Jesus. #annsalem #motherofhonor #children #raisingthenextgeneration

"I grew up without a father... My mother was my everything... Didn't I grow up?" Sometimes, girls who grow up without fathers and later become single mothers either by choice or by circumstances find it unnecessary to get father figures for their children because they have seen their mothers raise them in absence of their fathers. Don't deny your children an opportunity to have a father figure in their lives. Here are more tips (continuation from episode 1) to help you find a good father figure for your children; 4. Evaluate the character and integrity of the potential father figure. Look for honesty, moral integrity and a genuine care for your children's well-being. 5. Communicate clearly your expectations and the role you wish the potential father figure to play in order to establish a mutual understanding and commitment. 6. Trust your intuition. If something doesn't feel right, take it seriously. If you don't feel comfortable with a potential father figure or you feel your children are not safe with them, don't go ahead with them. I’ll never forget the guy who walked up to Joel on the day he announced to our church he was leaving to be a stay at home dad and said: many people can replace you here as a pastor, but NO ONE will ever replace you as dad. You’ve made the right choice 😭. Joel’s one of the smartest and most driven guys I’ve met: he finished a 3.5 year grad degree in 2 years while working FT, started 2 companies while being in FT ministry with 3 little kids, all while renovating a house and 7 apartments doing much of the work himself. Most days, you’ll find him making sour dough bread with the kids, tossing on roller blades and showing them that exercise is fun, nourishing our bodies by making literally everything we eat from scratch, and spending hours teaching our kids about Jesus, money, and life skills. He’ll finish almost every night on a long walk with me pouring into our marriage. In a culture that doesn’t value the family, Joel has chosen the opposite and it’s the most beautiful sight to watch. We have no guarantee of who our kids will be as adults, but I can already tell you the impact of time Joel has given our kids is giving them a different view of the world. The home is where change takes place & there is no greater work than the profound shaping of eternal souls. Thankful I have a man who didn’t buy the lie that being a homemaker is an unworthy calling. I have no doubt Joel could have continued to build a very “successful work life”, but all of it pales in comparison to the work he’s done in our family. #homemaker #raisingthenextgeneration #travelfamily #stayathomedad

I have worked with many adult clients over the last 20 years and have seen the result of them having felt misunderstood, not validated, not seen and not heard. The imprints that they’re left with from childhood of feeling there’s something deeply wrong with them at their core, and accessing the underlying, suppressed feelings of grief, rage and shame takes time to understand, get to the root of and integrate and heal. I have also worked with many highly sensitive children and one of the most important things we can do for them is to unconditionally accept them for who they are. With finely-tuned nervous systems, 20-30% of children have been found to be highly responsive to the environment around them. They process and experience information (sounds, smells, emotions, colours, etc) in a deep way. Whether introverted or extraverted, they’re often observers, deep thinkers, intuitive, reflective, perceptive, they ask lots of questions but need a lot of downtime to rest and regulate. So how amazing it would be if all the adults who come into contact with this generation of sensitive children, whether they be parents, family, teachers, friends and health professionals could understand and accept that there are some children who truly do experience the world in a deep way. If we realised that these children: 1) Don’t need to change or be toughened up, to fit in. 2) Need to be believed when something hurts, when they have a scratch, when something stings, or it’s too noisy. 3) Learn that there’s nothing wrong with them for feeling everything so deeply and intensely. That they’re allowed to feel their exuberant joy, their sadness, their sense of injustice, their anger and they’re allowed to be quiet, and take things in. When our sensitive kids learn they’re not “too much,” they can fully feel their feelings in the moment, and these feelings will not get stuck or suppressed. With this understanding, we will then raise a generation who will carry a basic sense of goodness deep within, knowing they are deserving, they are whole, and they belong.

Parental love is hard to describe but can only be understood by those who have experienced it. It goes beyond the children's mistakes and appearance. Other people may see your children as ugly, small, short whatever the world may see but the parent always sees their children as the best. As a parent, do you look at your children as the best, love them the way they are or you also make comments about their big heads, small legs, ugly faces? Do you ever feel alone? Like no one understands? Like you don’t even understand? Breaking cycles while mothering our way can leave you feeling very isolated, alone and like no one gets it. This society and everyone before us in our lives set us up to feel this way. The only way to experience something different in our motherhood journey is to break the cycle of isolation. Here is the tough truth. You don’t have to feel alone, you choose too. Your feelings are valid and just because you have a feeling doesn’t mean you have to act on it. You get to leave the house daily. You get to ask or hire help. You get to make new friendships and call up old ones. If you’re reading this and thinking “that feels impossible” then send me a message and let’s get cycle breaking. It may not be easy but it is simple and I will show you how. #Cyclebreakingcoachformoms #HeidiLaaperCoaching #isolation #cyclebreaking #raisingthenextgeneration #startswithyou

From our Sage Care PT Team Lead Whitney- Go Team.Sage! We are jumping for joy today!  First and foremost, it’s the last Friday of the school year!  Secondly, it’s Career Day and my 6yo chose to be a Physical Therapist! I asked him why he chose this career and he said, “because I want to be like you!” (Quick pause while I wipe my tears to keep them from falling into my coffee).  But then he said, in his sweetest little 6yo voice, that he wanted to help kids so everyone had the chance to play.  And there it is. That’s why we do what we do. Every kiddo should have the opportunity to play. When they can’t do it on their own, that’s where we come in. We teach, we modify, we engage, and we play!!  There is nothing more sweet or more pure than the joy on a child’s face when they’re actively and authentically playing.  #SageCareTherapy #SageCareCares #PediatricPhysicalTherapy #HomeHealth #RaisingTheNextGeneration

🎗️A reminder for the time when you are in Doubt ★💟 ★ Successful mothers are forged in the fires of adversity, their strength born from the challenges they overcome. ★They are not defined by the obstacles they face, but by their unwavering determination to persevere. These mothers understand that true triumph lies not in the absence of struggle, but in the refusal to surrender. ★Their stories inspire us to embrace our own battles, to find the courage to push forward, and to realize that the measure of a mother's success is not perfection, but the unbreakable spirit that guides her through life's trials. #MothersStrength #MaternalResilience #MomLifeUnfiltered #SuccessfulMotherhood #MotherlyLove #ParentingJourney #FemaleEmpowerment #BalancingAct #MamaBear #MomBoss #FamilyFirst #HardWorkPaysOff #MotherlyInspiration #MaternalGrit #MomWarrior #RaisingTheNextGeneration #MomLife #ChildhoodMemories #FamilyBond #MotherhoodUnplugged #MamasDoItAll #MomWisdom #MothersLegacy #WomenSupportingWomen #ResilientMothers

M O M 🌱🌼 Not Bio • not Foster • not Adoptive… Just MOM. May 2024 — My Mother’s Day Gift (that I specifically told Chris I wanted 😘) I’ve technically been all 3 of these in the almost 12 years I’ve been a mother, but being a mother is more than giving birth; and a child can have more than one mother (in fact, one my boys does have more than one mother). Again, it’s both / and… 🩶 We will have to raise each of our boys differently, according to their identities, needs, goals and desires. // BUT they are all fully and equally my children, no matter how they join our family — or if they legally have our last name. So, to my children (and any possible future children that may live in our home), I am: MOM. Some step mothers raise the step children in a miserable way that affects the children's future. They treat those children in "unhuman" way and treat theirs as gods. Ask yourself; Do you know the number of days you have in this world? Assuming that God calls you home and the new mother in the home treats your children the way you are treating your step children. Would you be happy wherever you will be? Children are innocent. It doesn't matter the issues you have with their parents. They deserve to be treated well. When we moved into our new place, we were blessed with a quite large strawberry patch. It is evident that the previous owner put a lot of hard work into caring for this patch and making sure it was healthy enough to bear an abundance of fruit. As I have been picking bucket after bucket of these beautiful, vibrant red strawberries, I feel a little tinge of guilt... I think about all of the time that was spent on this patch - the constant watering, weeding, fertilizing - all of that work so that someone else can now enjoy the abundance. An abundance that I am incredibly grateful for! However, as I was outside tonight and I actually had a few moments of peace and quiet while I was picking strawberries, I thought about how all of this can relate to motherhood. We spend our days raising up these children... Making sure they are planted in the right place and given good soil to grow and thrive in. We spend countless days pulling out weeds of rebellion and disobedience. We teach them truths from the Bible like fertilizer to the soul that will strengthen them as they grow. We water them with prayers and ask that the Lord would deepen their roots into Him. It's a big task, raising children in truth is. And while we get to see an abundance of growth in this wonderful season and we will get to reap some of what we are sowing, ultimately, it will be someone else who will benefit even more than us. It will be their future husbands, wives, children. Their church, their friends, their community. How we raise our children now can be a blessing to those around them in the future. And that, my friends, is a GOOD thing! So on the hard days of parenting and tending to these little gardens, may we not grow weary, but remember that the work we put in now can be a blessing to the future. •••••••••••••••••••••••••• ‭"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

The updates to Title IX have been made 🙅🏻‍♀️ but don’t go in effect until August. So let’s not waste time! Make a plan for school in the fall before it starts. If you are sort-of considering homeschool or have recently started homeschooling and need some guidance… let’s set up a call or do a group coffee date. If you’re looking for ideas, I can show you… -how to homeschool on a tight budget. -how you can homeschool as a single parent. -how you can homeschool multiple children. -how you can homeschool as a full time working parent. -how to homeschool when you’re busy. -how to homeschool when you, the parent, are impatient or are a perfectionist, and working on your own personal growth. -how to ask questions when you (the teacher) are stumped. -how to pick curriculum. -how to get a vision for your homeschool. -how to homeschool when you are also leading people for a living. (Lots of virtue invested!) AND I’d LOVE to have a conversation for parents with kids in public or charter! I can help you learn -how to give your kids the best you have when you’re tired and you feel like crap. -how to define YOUR values & mission as a family. -how to embrace another hard thing in life for the benefit of your child. -how to disciple your kiddos when you aren’t a perfect person and don’t know or understand the whole Bible. For real, let’s get some parents together and see what can happen! I’ll help you make the leap. This generation needs parents who are willing to raise the Esthers, Davids, Deborahs, Daniels, Stephens, Phoebes, and Timothys. (See these inspiring people in the Bible.) Your kids can live inspiring lives! Do you believe it? I’ve always loved kids ministry and supporting parents. So I’m here for you if you need support. Simply message me telling me you want to join a one time conversation AND send me what initial questions you’ve got. I’ll organize something with everyone who reaches out. After that, you can decide and see where it goes from there, for you and your family. 🤍 I’d love to help you find confidence as you raise the next generation of powerful men and women. Yes, feel free to share this post with anyone you think might be interested.

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there! I'm a day late as I try to put away social media on special days like this...plus my husband went beyond to make me feel special. 💕 I'm beyond grateful to my daughter, who made me a mother and all that that she has shown me on who I am. Being a mom has grown me in ways I never thought possible. I am grateful for my mom, who continually pours into my life and is one of my biggest cheerleaders. I'm beyond blessed to have a loving mother. Motherhood is challenging but also such a privileged experience. Moms raise the next generation and have a lot on their shoulders! Emotional mama moment 😢 . . . So when Aria come home from her trip to the safari park with the rainbows she handed me a little bag and said here's a present because your the best mummy ever. When I opened the bag I saw this gorgeous little bracelet inside and when I asked her why she spent her money on me her reply was because it's your favourite animal and colour. It's in these little moments I realise I am raising the sweetest humans I could be. Never forget you are smashing it mama and our babies see that daily. Forever grateful for my bestie A 🩷🌸 . . .

A memorable family trip to Niagara Falls for Mother’s Day and my mom’s 65th birthday 🎉 There is nothing quite like seeing the world through your children’s eyes. It reminds you that that spark, aliveness, and joy is still inside of you too 🥰 Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there who go above and beyond for their children every single day, even when it seems impossible. There is no job more important (or undervalued) than raising the next generation of beautiful souls that will change this world for the better ❤️ #mothersday #raisingthenextgeneration #findingjoy #gratefulheart #genderequality #ourchildrenareourfuture

Happy Mother’s Day!!! You definitely added ✨sparkle ✨ to all of our lives 🙌🏻 You got it from your mom, you shared it with us, and we are sharing it with everyone we know ♥️ You made everything beautiful, fun, joyful, and memorable…EVERYTHING. Thanks for encouraging us, challenging us to do the hard things, having rules that kept us in line, and encouraging each of us to bloom where we were planted…you always saw what we couldn’t see yet. Thank you 😊 We are carrying on all the “little things” that you made sure to show us that are really THE BIG THINGS. And when people compliment us and wonder why we sparkle 💖 just a bit more than they think is necessary, we just smile and say, “I got it from my mom.” Your memory will never fade…because we are teaching it all to our kids, and each new generation that we will know here on earth 🌎. #greengutglow #jeanneappreciation #mothersday #shinebright #JesusFirst #loveoneanother #raisingthenextgeneration #generation2generation #justlikemymom #iammymothersdaughter

I already have exactly what I want for Mother's Day and that's to be a mother. I love you dearly Mia, Joseph, Elyse, and Julian 😘❤️❤️❤️ But if I could have the deepest wish of my heart, it would be to have the ability to save my children from the confusion, deception, and downright danger in the world today. If I could always effectively enable them to recognize truth and see through counterfeit happiness. How do you shield (warn/educate/prepare) your children from the incredibly dangerous and dark things of today's world or how did your parents shield you? #mothersareangels #nothingidratherbe #teachingchildren #raisingthenextgeneration

We are in a generation where many want to receive when they are offering nothing. Some people claim that they have nothing to offer but everyone has something unique to offer. You may not be good at business to start one and give people jobs, but you may be good at encouraging people or helping people recover from their stresses and depression through entertainment. You may be a good care taker for children or you may be a good teacher. God created everyone unique with something special to offer to others. You may have delayed to see your blessings in life just because you are not doing anything for others. What special thing can you do for others? Show your children how to get through the small battles they are going through now, because, whether you realise it or not, they are going through them. Teach them resilience by showing them how to wipe their tears, how to take a short break, a deep breath and face it again. You are training them for the bigger battles to come. And if Allah has blessed you with a luxury, it's to enjoy it, to be grateful to Him and to give to others. Then carry on. Don't stop talking, posting and protesting about Palestine, Sudan, Kashmir, Rohingya and all the injustice of the world. Because we will liberate it. Ok, let’s break this down. What does a successful human being mean to you? Is it focused on academic grades, achievements, external accomplishments? While these certainly are desirable qualities that we want our children to have, I like to invite you to also consider other qualities that may be less visible. Qualities such as emotional resiliency, kindness, creativity, a progress-over-perfection mindset, self-motivation, a deep sense of self-worth and grit. Qualities we can’t force our children to have, qualities that take a long time to develop and qualities that will serve our children for their lifetime. What other qualities or traits come to mind when it comes to raising successful human beings? Drop your thoughts below, I’d love to know. 😊 . . . #parentingsupport #parenting #parentingwithintention #raisingchildren #consciousparenting #peacefulparenting #positivediscipline #raisingthenextgeneration #parentingreflections #motherhoodunplugged #parentcoaching

5/9/2024 - New Ink for Mom & Dad. 🩶 Brandon be strong and let your heart take courage Wait for the LORD ~ Psalm 27:14 • • • For Chris 🧑🏼‍🦱: Tat #3. Brandon’s name and what has become his Bible verse. God knew before Dr. B was with us that this verse would come to represent more than our adoption / foster care journey… it would be the PERFECT verse for Brandon’s life and his story. For Mel 🙋🏻‍♀️: The completion of my 6th tat + The addition of more of Psalm 27:14 for my 9th tat = Today was the completion of a tattoo I got in 2018, while we were in the midst of so much uncertainty: After 2 disrupted private infant adoptions and having decided to pivot, being in the process of transitioning to become a foster family… Fast forward 6 years later —> As I said ⬆️, this still represents our continued journey through adoption / foster care, but today I also added the name of the final kiddo who will become a McG in our immediate family: BRANDON. ❤️‍🩹💔❤️ (+ his birth date & his adoption date) Tat #9 is small and simple, adding the first part of Psalm 27:14 on the inside of the upper part of my left arm. #NewInk #ScriptureTattoo#Psalm2714 🕊️ #WaitForTheLORD #RoadToAdoptBabyMcG3 #AdoptionJourney #AdoptionIsComplicated#BeTheChange #MulitracialFamily#TrustingJesus // #LivingInTheGrey 🩶 #RaisingTheNextGeneration#NeverGiveUp. #GlimmersOfJoy

Introducing: Brandon E. M. McGilliard 👑 May 8th, 2024 — After 4 years, 7 months, 2 days of entering our lives (9 years since our family started our adoption journey), this littlest young king of ours is officially a: McGILLIARD! “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” ~ Psalm 27:14 He’s also now a member of the 4 name club — God created Brandon wholly as he is and was, before he legally became a McG. By adding a name instead of replacing, we hope to instill a desire to remember and learn about all the parts that make him uniquely him. Chris & I felt it necessary to keep all his names; for him to always know where he came from… to seek, to question, to discover all parts of his identity. Our hope is to be there along the way — to guide, to answer, to let him process in whatever way that will look for him. We LOVE that he can already tell us he’s BOTH *happy AND sad* that he was adopted today. As his story continues to unfold, we pray we can always be a safe space for him to navigate through his feelings… the JOY’s and the SORROW’s and the in between’s. ❤️‍🩹💔❤️ • • • Adoption is not what God intended and isn’t the answer to “saving lives.” Love alone is not enough… And at the same time, today we celebrate some stability after so much uncertainty in the last several years. With trust in Jesus and the help of our village, we *know* this is just the beginning, not a closure tied up with a pretty bow. It’s a journey of living in the BOTH / AND, navigating the emotions, questioning the “what ifs” (for ALL 5 of us), knowing there’s more pain to come. Here’s to leaning in, to continuing to HEAL, and to *learning* to live in the grey… 🩶 [📸: 5/8/2024. @_dorothyhuynh Photography.] #MultiracialFamily#TrustingJesus // #LivingInTheGrey 🩶 #BothAnd#RoadToAdoptBabyMcG3 #AdoptionIsComplicated #TransracialAdoption #BlackBoyJoy #YoungKing 👦🏾👑 #RaisingTheNextGeneration #BeTheChange#ChangingTheNarrative #NeverGiveUp 🛣️ #ActJustlyLoveMercyWalkHumbly

Sometimes we miss opportunities because we pretend to be who we are not! It makes people who would have helped us to think that we are okay. Be yourself! Ask for help when you need it. However, it's also more important to learn how to ask for help; do not command, request. Featuring MAMA, Nicole Nolan, LCSW, certified school social worker + owner of @wholepeacecounseling 💕 We are so honored to feature Nicole within this Mother’s Day Series, especially given that it is #mentalhealthawarenessmonth , as she truly exemplifies a woman doing it all + making a difference 🫶🏼 She is a dedicated mother to her 3 children 💓 Concurrently, through her work in Rumson Public Schools and her own practice, she advocates for preventative and collaborative strategies that aim to target and reduce the impact of stressors growing up in today’s world! 👏🏻 “The Mindset Tapestry was a must have for our family! I am always working to find ways to develop a growth mindset with my kids. The tapestry gave me a tool to do that with my kids that also incorporated play modalities and character development. I loved the mirror and the fact that my kids would talk directly to themselves, which is an intervention I use therapeutically. I use the tapestry in session with my clients too!” ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ #themindsettapestry #featuringmamaseries #mothersdayseries #womensupportingwomen #momssupportingmoms #raisingthenextgeneration #monmouthcountymoms #mentalhealthawareness

Confession:🗣 I didn't think I wanted to be a mom. Yep. It's true. And it's honestly really hard to admit that. And I've spent much time on my knees fighting to be the mom my kids deserve. Mom'ing didn't come easy to me. It's pulled me out of my comfort zone more than I'd like to admit. Did you you fear motherhood? Did it turn your life upside down? Do you question how and what, more than you want to admit? This many years later... this is where I've landed. 👉I'm not gonna get it perfect... and that's OK. 👉God's love and grace for my kids is bigger than my mistakes... he's got them. 👉I need to be confident in my choices... even when they go against the grain. 👉How others choose to parent is not my measurement tool. 👉 Love them and show them how to love. 👉 Make sure they know our home is safe and trustworthy. This past weekend was my daughter's birthday. Next weekend is Mother day. 🌸 It's a week of lots of reflection for me So this week we're gonna remember, Mama, you are were created perfectly to Mom your kids. Imperfections and all. ❤❤❤ #momsofinstagram #momthoughts #beingamom #momsofteens #mothersday #honesttalk #Fwtflcoach #raisingthenextgeneration

For me, peaceful parenting is about finding the beautiful moments amidst the chaos of everyday parenting life, and consciously choosing to look for the joy in the little things. It’s not always about getting through the most difficult moments. Sometimes, it’s about surrendering to the present moment, recognizing that I do not need to be led by my child’s internal emotional chaos, and that there is nothing to fix about my child or his/her feelings. All I can do is to stay present, stay anchored in my parenting confidence and leadership and be the eye in the storm that we are experiencing. For it is in the eye of the storm that we can find peace. And it is also in the eye of the storm that I can invite my child to co-regulate with me, thereby inviting in collaboration and cooperation from a place of connection. What does it mean to you to be a peaceful parent? Drop your thoughts below, I’d love to hear them. 😊 . . . #peacefulparenting #consciousparenting #parentsupport #parenting #parentingreflections #raisingchildren #parentingwithintention #raisingthenextgeneration
