If we are not witnesses, we’re ghosts—fading? The sounds of these raised arms ring out in different ways: college campuses, entrenchment, trench, dug in, the walled, the separated, the lonely, the subject of, the mind-trap, tape loop, narrow way, towards or away, relic, remainder, marking by mound or stone, the witness, other, participant. Hello now from West Cork where we’ll be @levis_corner_house_ballydehob (its pink side pictured here) as breeze enters new space around our bodies post Jazz Fest (I like this town…). Soon we’ll be @salmonpoetry too. We’re really looking forward to both…as playing live feels the pitch, the spin in the moment, The who-for that we summon and witness. Stark, quiet, looking over the Celtic Sea where I’m fairly certain my ancestor passed through, I began to feel what the artist (@austinmcquinn) who created the monolith consisting of Aran knit sweaters may have felt. I summoned its ghostly ever presence inside the @limerickcitygallery—felt & still here. The juxtapositions, even here—serene, tug every second. There is an “Awake” that tempts instruction with time: legacy of word, tune, within time but towards the timeless too. This week I have been enjoying a sunny breakfast in my dining room in the company of this lovely red and white poinsettia. I found and am reading an old family children's book published in 1945: "Through Many Colored Glasses: The Child's World in Verse and Song" compiled by George Hornby, illustrated by Marion R. Kohs. Had tea at C&P Coffee with friend and poet, Vicky Edmonds, the other day. She shared her new beautiful hand bound book of poems, ‘attempts at blooming’. She read to me one poem from it, ‘Are they also beautiful…’ An inspiring poem. (And, yes, I cried.) This edition has 175 copies. For over 30 years Vicky had been developing her gift of crafting words. When we hang out we totally lose track of time getting into the root meanings of words, life lessons, beauty, you name it. So, yeah, the first time I met Vicky was at an elementary school in West Seattle when I came to sit in on her class. Joan Rabinowitz at Jack Straw had paired us to work together with 4th & 5th graders for their program Poetry & Song. Vicky worked with the kids in learning poetry and I took their sweet poems and distilled them into one song we all learned together and then recorded together. So, yeah, the first time I met Vicky was at an elementary school in West Seattle when I sat in on her class. And when she walked by I was like “Who is this person?” She just had this beautiful vibe. When she walked into the classroom all the little ones stopped what they were doing. Like literally. Even the bratty kids interrupted their mischief kinda deal. And they’re all smiles greeting her sweetly, “Miss Vicky”. Yeah. You might just check out this beautiful new book of hers. I'm not usually posting my personal choo choo or ek ek on my social media account. It's not because my life is dreary and blue or I don't have a story to tell. Actually, there's so much to tell, but I just kept it to myself. There were times that I got distracted by Kdrama, Cdrama, Tdrama and out-of-this-world stories, Maybe because I'm just fascinated with the mere idea of being attached, in love and living in the philosophical world of idealism and fantasy. But mind you if I set my mind on one thing. I will do everything just to reach that goal no matter what it takes. And if de riqueur I will work overtime and I will spend sleepless nights to achieve it. Take note age is not a hindrance to setting a goal and working hard to fulfil it. 📖 When you read poetry you shouldn’t try to understand the words, not even with the songs of vajrayana disciplines. Don’t try to scrutinize and finger through word by word, idea by idea. Good things come to those who wait. This was an experience worth waiting 10 months for Myself and Ciarán (@otherworldnature) wanted to assist men to have a space to talk, listen, share and own which was built on a foundation of core values: Non-judgement Authenticity Acceptance We met online, as the only way we could and travelled the virtual journey together until last weekend when we were finally able to meet and greet each other in the flesh. We set off to the heart of Wicklow where we effectively held our first real meeting. We had tribal drumming, opened the circle around our camp fire and acknowledged the land, ancestors on hallowed ground surrounded by 16 rocks. There was plenty of food, a couple of beers, some heartfelt stories and being in each others company was as wild as the land we called home for the night. It was meant to be a night camping but became something way more of a deep connection. We felt rooted to the spot, through song, story, jokes, just relishing the escape and the chance to be our own little Tribe of 5. The added bonus was that it was Lughnasa (the beginning of the harvest season) We gave thanks to those who have gone before us and for the pathways we walk. We cannot wait to return, and see how much more we can build, how much we can continue to be there for each other as brothers. Shoutout to @cathal_oneill_ for the tribal bodhrán, the barefoot experience and the ability to tap into to the Celtic mysticism that surrounds us. Ray for the unplugged session and culinary delights Paddy for the stories, laughter and constant banter Ciarán for being the connection piece to enable our being there and suggesting the idea. I first heard Laurie on the Calgary music scene backing up Tom Phillips playing bass guitar, laying down those country lines like a pro. Later, I had the privilege of co-hosting an open mic with her, and learned of her poetry and music when donning her songs on the stage.
