🗓 Oct 2020 🇬🇧 🏴 The Cremyll ferry is a foot passenger ferry across the Hamoaze (the estuary of the River Tamar) from Admirals Yard in Stonehouse, Plymouth, Devon to Cremyll in Cornwall. The ancient ferry route dates back to at least the 11th century. For hundreds of years the route was worked with rowing boats, and with horseboats for carrying livestock, carts and cargo. Winstanley's lighthouse, oil on canvas, 120x120cm. A ghost in the swell Built 1696-1698, Winstanley's lighthouse on Eddystone rocks was the first offshore lighthouse in the world. It was an eccentric looking wooden, octagonal structure with a stone clad dodecagonal base, lit by 60 candles. Winstanley's lighthouse was the first of four to be built on Eddystone rocks, off Rame head. It was swept off the rocks along with its architect by the great storm of 1703.
