By allowing yourself the flexibility to enjoy all types of food in moderation, you can prevent the feelings of restriction that often lead to overeating. Devil is in the dose. Many people think carbs are bad. No food is bad on its own. You can still enjoy what you love but portions may need to be adjusted depending on your goals. Many of our clients love noodles and rice and we encourage them to still include these items in their meals. We simply ask them to portion it accordingly and add more nutrient dense options like fruits and vegetables to balance it out and to help with satiety. Pairing it with protein also satisfy our clients which minimizes the needs for snacking and grazing. When you use food strategically it makes goals like weight loss much easier and predictable. Let’s talk about….treat, NOT cheat(especially with travel of any kind). Whether you’re on a work trip, a staycation weekend trip, or on a trip like I’m on right now (traveling in Europe for two weeks) there will ALWAYS be temptations. I totally understand not wanting to miss out on the “local” food scene. And believe me, I want to try ALL the things too! And you can……just not everyday, and definitely not EVERY meal. Decide what’s really important. Pick what’s really special. And the rest of the time, concentrate as much as you can on “water first, veggies most”. Yes, traveling to a foreign country may not be as easy….but it CAN BE DONE. Last year traveling to Europe PLUS a cruise, I only gained 1/4 of a pound. And I treated! There were items I HAD to sample….fish and chips and “tea” in England, eating at an authentic Irish Pub and waffles and chocolates in Belgium. But when I got back to the ship….it was ALL about #veggiesmost. I always skipped dessert. This trip, there are options galore. Now that we’ve settled in an air BandB for 5 days, we have had the option of picking up food for breakfast in (also a $ saver). And last night, after having a large lunch (I had soup and salad, but couldn’t resist a slice of my boyfriend’s pizza) we picked up salads to go, and ate outside in a lovely courtyard. Let me just say….that salad “to go” from the market, was one of the BEST meals I’ve had. Plus we picked up veggies to snack on in the car. It can be done. Plus, all the exercise you get walking….thst hasn’t hurt either. Let’s talk about…..the choices (treats and snacks) that we make while on vacation! So if you’ve been following this week, while I’m on my 2 week plus trip to Europe, you’ve gotten to see how I handle all the eating out….the meals and the treats! Just to reiterate…..I never “cheat” or have a “bad” food day! I do what I can, when I can….and when I want a specific treat or snack, I savor every bite…..and move on. Always trying to find and add veggies when I can….even though it’s sometimes not so easy. We stopped at Aldi’s the other night, to get some breakfast items and some easy snacks/veggies to have on hand. Of course they don’t have everything we have….but you make do. Yesterday it was yogurt and fruit and some muesli in our room before heading out for the day. In between stops (Thun and then Gstaad, Switzerland) we snacked on some carrots! When we got to a rainy (and practically) deserted city of Gstaad we found a lovely little restaurant. Though they did have an entree salad, I definitely needed something warm…so ratatouille fit the bill. (All veggies in a tomato based sauce). Later on in the day, stopping for dinner back in Gruyère…..all about the cheese- since we weren’t extremely hungry, we just had fromage(cheese)omelets with a side salad. It can be done. You can find healthy “ish” meals anywhere…no matter what continent you’re on. Of course all the walking doesn’t hurt either! Lots of hills….lots of stairs visiting castles and castle walls🤣. Do what you can with what you have. Let’s talk about……planned treats/meals, while on vacation! So if you’ve been following along, we left last Thursday night for a two week trip to Europe. This trip, no cruise, just staying in air BandB’s the whole time. If you’ve seen, when I can, I’ve ordered salads, veggies, side veggies, etc. Not always easy, but I can always find SOMETHING. Yesterday, we went to an Aldi’s (very different than home) and picked up veggies for snacks - though they don’t have some of my faves, I found enough- and some breakfast foods too - like fruit, yogurt cottage cheese and bread. (Eating out every meal is gettting rather pricey). Anyway, since we’re in Switzerland for 5 days, I knew I wanted fondue at some point. Yes, it’s all about the cheese….and bread. But if you’ve been following, my “veggies most”, has really been going pretty well. So yesterday, as we woke rather late, my “breakfast” was really brunch- a salad and tomato soup. A few spoons of my boyfriend’s lemon sorbet….and I was ready for my fondue dinner. Funny, the Swiss “don’t eat fondue in Summer”, so we were rather limited in where we went. The place we chose offered fondue, but it seemed to be more of an appetizer….as the dippers were only bread, pearl onions, and pickles! We made do…the bread was amazing! Of course during the night, I woke up extremely thirsty. Gulping down water like no other. I experienced it once….won’t be needing to do it again. Today it’s yogurt and fruit for breakfast…..and snacking on veggies! When there is a plan, there’s no guilt. No shame. One meal didn’t derail my success or compromise my health. Let’s talk about…..mindset, even while on vacation. I’ve talked about choices. I’ve talked about “doing what you can, when you can”. But there’s also FOMO(fear of missing out). Nope. No FOMO here. I’m doing what I can, when I can. I’m making the best “veggies most” choices when I can. But I’m also “not missing out”. Had a wonderful salad for lunch yesterday, in the lovely town of Gruyère, Switzerland. Yes, a town known for its cheese. (We could have had fondue….but we’re saving that for a later treat). Instead I ate the yummy French bread(not shown). And last night a dinner of another salad, amazing cream of asparagus soup….and they brought us a lovely little appetizer (also not shown) of smoked fish (lox) with slivers of fennel and a citrus foam….it was beautiful…missed taking the pic. When they brought us our check, a yummy chocolate truffle….and I savored EVERY bite. Not missing out. No FOMO. I don’t always drink Coke but when I do, it’s a Mexican Coke with Sabritas chips overlooking the pool and beautiful palm trees!🌴 And yes, even with all the “warning labels” of “Exceso Calorías” and “Exceseo Grasas Saturadas” AKA lots of calories and fat 🙄 I don’t know about you, but foods like these don’t need “warnings” on them 😖 And if you do come across something like this, remember this is #dietculture being shoved in our faces. You absolutely can celebrate your weight loss, love ordering a smaller size jeans and buzz off the fact you’re now confident enough to get your arms out at every occasion possible. It is not the be all and end all, but feeling uncomfortable and lacking confidence because of the size of your body is a horrible place to be in.
