One time in my day job, I met this guy who happened to a hobbyist photographer, when I asked him what gear he uses, he told me R5 with 400mm f/2.8, mind you this is a very expensive combination. When I asked him what he does with his photos, he told me nothing beyond sharing on social media. He further mentioned that the fun part of it goes away when you start chasing money. I was in this same situation, but I needed validation, he became one. With all this efforts I put into this, I don’t really make anything out of this photos, for me, it’s just a way to decompress and be away from the fast moving life. I have resisted monetising it because I still need a way to take myself away from the stresses of life which are unfortunately endless. We went to Chimney Rock last Thursday. It is the only state park in North Carolina that charges admission. Guess what? It’s free on your birthday. Happy Birthday to me! Definitely a wonderful place to visit. The views are spectacular and the main event, the rock that looks like a chimney, is quite a sight to see and climb. And the views – spectacular! But wait, there’s more. With a 404 foot drop, Hickory Nut Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in North Carolina. And the alternate trails and stairs to the top wind in and around this amazing rock formation. There’s even a Devils head on the way up. Sometimes the smallest flowers are the most interesting. 🌱 I’m unsure when I first noticed these, and there’s a good chance I walked by many of them, but this flower is from the Partridgeberry, an evergreen, woody, herbaceous perennial that can be found growing along woodland floors across North America. All of these images are relatively the same, and while I shot from the same position on the tripod, I changed the location of my off-camera flash to experience different lighting scenarios. It may look like I moved my camera slightly, but the only thing that changed in the photograph was the source of the light. 🍒 In late summer, the Partridgeberry blooms and produces a bright red fruit. The fruit is eaten by songbirds, turkeys, and small mammals. The Venus Fly Traps are in bloom. Their small white petals stand nearly a foot above the actual plant itself. Scientists believe this is a trait that allows the pollinators to come visit their flowers without accidentally being eaten by the traps below. I can absolutely see how, over time, the plants with the tallest flowers spread the most genetics. This bird is better than any hearing test 👂 😂. My first shot (although a little obstructed) of a Blackpoll Warbler in breeding plumage. I see quite a lot of these in the fall passing through, but they are never in breeding plumage (still beautiful of course).
