This is a comparison between right and left asymmetries that can be normal do to sports, surgery or past injuries that haven’t been rehabilitated. Why Angles Are Essential In Isometric Training 🔽 “Thirty-three recreationally active healthy males aged 18 - 30 years completed 9 weeks of strength training of the quadriceps muscle group three times per week. An intra-individual design was adopted: one leg performed purely isometric training at each of four joint angles (isometrically trained leg); the other leg performed conventional dynamic training, lifting, and lowering (dynamically trained leg). WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET MORE OUT OF EACH REP OF EACH EXERCISE……..AND ALSO HELP LOWER INJURY RISK? Then INTENTION is 🔑 Yes exercise technique is important but there’s actually more to an exercise just looking good and being performed correctly. Intention involves mindfully “squeezing” and “targeting” the desired muscle(s) throughout the whole of each rep. Here’s how you can use intention to get more out of an exercise: ✅ Slowly and mindfully ramp up tension in the desired muscles BEFORE your first rep. ✅ Squeeze the muscles at the top of the movement or in their SHORTENED position (For example, top of biceps curl or chest press). ✅ Aim to maintain tension in those working muscles even when you are lowering the resistance in the eccentric part of the rep. ✅ Create tension and squeeze the muscles in the bottom of the rep or in the lengthened position BEFORE you begin your next rep (Bottom of biceps curl or chest press). Not only can you potentially get more out of using less weight, but the other BIG plus is that you potentially take strain off your joints by being more engaged through each rep! 𝗔 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗗, 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗚𝗬 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗡? 1. Identify the area of pain. 2. Identify the tissues (muscle, tendon, etc) in that area. 3. Utilize all available methods to affect that area (the tissues) to make the pain go away, such as stretching, rubbing, manipulating, thera-gun, acupuncture, acupressure, fascia-manipulation, scraping, cupping, dry-needling, electric stimulation, ice, heat, shockwave, low-level laser, k-tape, etc. You'd think this was the way to go with so many people offering the same, or variations of the same solution. Between physical therapists, chiropractors, and trainers, you're likely to experience some combination if not all of the treatments. The issue is they all follow the same line of thinking... the same underlying strategy. That strategy is the place (location on your body) that feels something not good (pain, tightness, etc) must have something to do with why it doesn't feel so good. ARE YOU DOING TOO MANY WORK SETS? Have you recently started to feel like it’s getting tougher to recover from resistance training sessions? Are you starting to see bigger “drop offs” in reps or weights in your latter sets? If you’re over the age of 40 or simply been training for a number of years then recovery from resistance exercise is 🔑 to progress! While we are ALL different, follow these guidelines to help you keep making progress and avoid over training! ✅ If you like to include lots of exercises (6-8) then simply perform LESS SETS per exercise, maybe 2 sets is enough! Inversely if you like to do less exercises (2-4) then you can afford to do more sets or at least more harder work sets. Though don’t exhaust yourself with too many sets either…. ✅ If outside stressors (work, family poor sleep etc) are creeping up on you then lower your overall total working sets. Try cutting back 1-2 work sets on each exercise and reduce overall volume. You can only recover from so much…. ✅ If you see a large drop off in reps or weight you can lift then STOP doing more sets and move on! Don’t feel obliged to push through 4 sets if you feel absolutely done after 2! You risk only eating into your precious recovery potential. ✅ Without wanting to make a general recommendation, strength coach Ian King’s 10 work set total per session is a good “loose guideline”, especially for the over 40s… Not saying you have to do only 10, but if you’re doing closer to 20 per workout then perhaps it’s time to reign in it a little? Pelvic floor has been a pretty hot topic over the last few years — and for good reason. Many people have dysfunction of the pelvic floor… that goes for women and men. The reason for pelvic floor dysfunction can have many root causes and lead to a wide variety of symptoms. Many clients with pelvic floor issues report a feeling of tightness in the muscles of the pelvic floor, lower back and hips, groin or hip pain, urinary incontinence, prolapse, or a weak core. Most therapeutic interventions try to “release” feelings of tightness with invasive procedures including external and internal massage. While these techniques often provide temporary relief, they may not address the underlying cause of the pain, which in the majority of cases is muscle weakness in the muscles of the pelvic floor. Din greppstyrka matchar direkt styrkan i arm och axel/skuldra, har du inte styrka och stabilitet här, så har du inte heller bra greppstyrka, eller så har du ont i armbågen när du greppar för hårt eller gör vissa rörelser. Om du har dålig greppstyrka: 📌 Träna på att dra axel/skulderblad upp mot öronen, pressa ner, pressa bak och pressa fram, håll några sekunder i varje position och känn att musklerna jobbar i den riktningen du rör axeln. 📌 Jobba i cirklar framåt och bakåt med axeln 📌 Sträck ut armen rakt (viktigt med rak armbåge) i olika positioner utifrån kroppen och knyt näven så hårt du kan. DO YOU HAVE CERTAIN MUSCLES THAT FEEL TIGHT? Or do you struggle to get into certain positions in exercises and lack the “range of movement” you feel you need? For example, squatting to a certain depth or doing an overhead shoulder press properly? Here are a some reasons WHY this MIGHT be happening to you: 1. Your unique individual body and how your own joints are structured may only allow you to get into certain positions before you hit your end range. It’s worth noting you cannot change how you are built and structured….. 2. You might not have the MUSCULAR CONTROL to move into certain positions. Getting stronger can sometimes help increase range of movement. 3. There’s a lot of “stuff” surrounding your joints other than muscle such as tendons and ligaments that can also have an impact on how you move. Stretching tendons and ligaments is not particularly advisable…. So if your instant thought is you must “stretch” then understand that you might actually be pushing your body into positions it may not want to go? There are real NO normal or standard ranges of movement to be able to get to, as YOUR body is unique. Treat it that way and learn to find what works for YOU! As always play the long game!
