Big changes over the last few weeks as David made me a beautiful new work bench (yes it will get dings and dents!) and I updated an old dental cabinet (now teal) and bedside cabinets (now white) with new paint and drawer pulls. Everything has a place now, I’ve got lots of stations, and the space works well for evening art sessions with friends too. Amazing. Still more to do but it is functional - yay!! Now back at it! Dick Lubinsky was an artist who, after being institutionalized with schizophrenia in the 1950s, collected cameras and made portraits on newspaper of people in the Bronx who had fallen on hard times. Kosloff has curated exhibits of his work for the Fountain House Gallery, the Outsider Art Fair, the American Visionary Art Museum, and the Erie Art Museum, and plans to show more of it in the future. sketchbook scan 😀 idk what to title this when i finish I feel like this one needs background: I made this piece in a time (last week lol) where i really don’t know which path I want to take in art. Before i went to university, I was dead set on wanting to do concept/PR art for video games and practice to get a semi-realistic artstyle. since then I have wandered so far off that path just because there are SO many different fields and styles in art I love so much! The school I went to focuses a lot more on traditional art and jobs you can get in fine arts which made me think that was more fun. I also met a lot of people with different art styles who inspired me at school and told me about what they are pursuing which also lead me down other paths. I have also had to prove myself and realize who was my friend and who wasn’t within art spaces! Sometimes it is hard to admit that someone is not rooting for you and to appreciate those who really are! i feel it is not talked about enough, art friends are important! These things combined with other personal issues I confronted in university made me feel confused near the end mark, like I was standing in an empty field with no roads in sight. After all this I had to ask myself "what do I want to be known for?" This woven sample is my first attempt at spinning and weaving my own yarn from various scrap materials and fibers, including fine wire mesh, paper, wool, embroidery threads, organza, and printed text. This way, I can recycle small pieces of materials that would otherwise be discarded, and I like the overall aesthetic of the weaving.
