The extraordinary director, Frank Capra, thought it was necessary to shine a light on the powerful press, and their ability to share half-truth articles and take down people who often did not deserve their wrath of lies. Esta película supuso la primera colaboración de Capra con James Stewart, su actor fetiche. Debido a que estaba suspendida por el estudio, Capra intentó contratar a #OliviaDeHavilland. Pero #JackWarner, presidente de los estudios WarnerBros, estaba enfadado con Capra por una afrenta del pasado y el préstamo fue denegado. After watching what seemed like a slog through @killersoftheflowermoon2023 , The Burial felt like the opposite side of the coin. Lean, humorous and to the point. Although they both relate to the human condition in different ways; the dreadful way the Osage people were treated and in The Burial; a brush and contingence over race, and again in both how people with power or wealth want to hold on to that wealth even at the detriment of others.

Sin embargo, el cine es así y a casi todos nos gustan este tipo de historias. La escena final del juicio es soberbia y emocionante, y si como dicen las dos ancianas de Mandrake Falls, Longfellow Deeds, poeta de tarjetas de felicitación y músico que toca la tuba, está poseído por los duendes.
Yesterday's pick-ups from Sunrise Records (top four) and today's pick-ups from Value Village. I was super happy to find the Robert Englund doc at Sunrise. I wish they had had the Tom Savini one, too. I'm not a Foo Fighters fan, but for only 8$ for the Blu I figured I'd give the movie a shot. I've never watched TNA Wrestling, but this is a documentary, and I love me a good wrestling doc. The Frank Capra box set is a 6-disc set. It contains American Madness, It Happened One Night, Mr. Deeds Goes To Town, You Can't Take It With You, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, and the sixth disc is a two hour documentary on Frank Capra entitled Frank Capra's American Dream. Also included in this set is a thick, square bound book. For only 7.99$, I couldn't say no. They also had a similar box set dedicated to Cecille B. Remembering Herb Voland, born October 2, 1918 and passed away April 26, 1981. Herbert Maurice Voland was an American actor, best known for his various roles on the sitcom Bewitched, as General Crandell Clayton on M*A*S*H during seasons one and two and the movie Airplane! (1980). He was born in New Rochelle, New York and attended Columbia University. After graduating, he studied at the American Theatre Wing before beginning his professional acting career on the Broadway stage, where his credits include Farewell, Farewell Eugene (1960) and Someone Waiting (1955). After World War II, he began appearing on tv on such series as Omnibus, The Philco Television Playhouse and Studio One. Later, he became known for his prolific portrayal of characters on 1960's and 1970's tv that were most commonly gruff executives, huff-and-puff military officers, or policemen, either in light sitcoms or crime dramas. He played Neil Ogilvie on Arnie, Fred Hammond on Love on a Rooftop, Harry Masterson on Mr. Deeds Goes to Town and Dr. Butler on The Mothers-in-Law. He also played Osborne, a con artist, on Sanford and Son. It is just a mythical Manhattan, imbued with the atmosphere of certain Hollywood classics of the 1930s, in both the screwball comedy and fantasy screenplay, paying homage to comedy directors like #FrankCapra. One of its clear references is Capra’s #MRDEEDSGOESTOTOWN. Both films share a similar story about a dim-witted simpleton (Gary Cooper and Tim Robbins respectively) who becomes rich and famous all of a sudden, then falls for a no-nonsense newshound (Jean Arthur and Jennifer Jason Leigh respectively) who spies on him in order to get the top story. The scenes of rapid-fire in the newsroom and the quirky judgment from a psychologist closely parallel the version in Capra’s picture, yet the Coens bring in just enough mysticism and surrealism to make it unique - exemplified by the fantastical scenes of two CEOs jumping off the top floor of a skyscraper. Watched #AmericanMadness (1932) : An underrated gem by Frank Capra. One of the finest-written films of its time that revives your faith in humanity over money. Frank Capra has given some great classics, and many of them hold that stature amongst critics and movie buffs. It's natural that many films go underrated, and American Madness has to be one of those films in Capra's glorious filmography. American Madness is a corporate drama but has various themes like humanity, romance, relationships, faith, and loyalty. I can't believe that somebody wrote such a smart film way back in the 30s and we weren't told about it occasionally. There is so much generosity in almost every character here, except for three, who have to be villainous to take the story forward. Just one or two faults in the writing: one is Mrs. Dickson going to have a drink at Clutt's house despite getting her lesson in the previous meeting, and the second is Matt being too silent repeatedly. There is a nice blend of conflicts, a line-up of events, and dramatic turnarounds in this film. You just walk along with the story and want to walk alongside it till the very end, until you see everything becoming happy and fine. This is the power of Capra's storytelling. He always did this. American Madness was like an early rehearsal for him before those well-known classics. The seeds for films like #LadyForADay #MrDeedsGoesToTown #LostHorizon #YouCantTakeItWithYou and #ItsWonderfulLife were sown here. American Madness is just 75 minutes long, making it an extremely engaging affair. The banking business never felt so good and adorable on the screen. The performances are good, the writing is top-notch (except for the conclusion on Mr. and Mrs. Dickson's relationship), the technical aspects are fine, and the motive is socially appealing. Why didn't anybody tell me about this film before? It's so underrated. ♡ 𝓛𝓾𝓹𝓮 & 𝓖𝓪𝓻𝔂 ♡ •Gary Cooper and his girlfriend, Lupe Vélez, are photographed at the train station in Los Angeles, 1930. 🤍 In 1929, Cooper and Vélez were cast alongside each other in the film, “Wolf Song.” During filming, Vélez made herself known to Cooper by having intense outbursts which primarily included her penchant for throwing chairs at him and cast members when she was displeased. After filming, Cooper was asked what the biggest thrill of the entertainment industry had been for him and he replied, “Lupe.” By late 1929, Vélez and Cooper had started a romantic relationship that soon became public, despite many objections. Cooper’s mother, as well as studio heads and fans had an issue with the relationship as it was interracial, and despite their attempts to keep the two apart, it was to no avail. The couple began living together, and this led to massive blowouts that often became physical. At one point during a fight at their home, Lupe grabbed a knife and stabbed Cooper which led to him receiving a few stitches. The majority of their fights were caused by Cooper’s tendency to cheat, and at one point Lupe told a friend that she thought she’d “Kill her Gary,” because of this, however they both went on to admit that despite the romance’s tumultuous history, they couldn’t get enough of each other. That was until 1931 when Cooper decided to leave Vélez, opting to pack his bags and run away for Europe to escape the romance. When Lupe heard this, she chased him to the train station in Chicago and shot at him, however he did not get hit. Following the intense end to this relationship, both went on to get married, Cooper to actress Veronica Balfe which lasted until his death in 1961, and Vélez to Olympic swimmer, Johnny Weissmuller. The couple divorced in 1939 following a similarly tumultuous relationship, and sadly just five years later Vélez passed away at the young age of 36 following an overdose. Many would claim that until her dying days, she still loved Gary.

Meetings of a band of writers, including Alexander Woollcott (upon whom the character Bill Morrow was loosely based) and others occurred at the Algonquin Hotel in NYC from approximately 1919-1929. -The film cost over $800,000; a very high figure for 1936. -Although the picture was made post-Code, there are still some envelope-pushing scenes, characterizations, and dialogue. Gary Cooper appearing on screen in nothing but a dress shirt and undershorts is one example.
