I am no princess who needs saving. It always puzzles me when people tell me to rest and get away ‘from the horrors of the war.’ I understand they are projecting their own fears and weaknesses and that it’s kindly meant, but it makes me wonder if they know me at all. 🤔 I’ve never needed protection or serenading; I want my partner to have my back while I’m on a mission. I have a unique set of professional and defensive skills, plus experience with being assaulted, and I grew up around law enforcement officers. Why would anyone think I should be affected by the horrors of war in the same way they are? 🤔 There’s something called morbid curiosity or predator inspection—the strange drive to approach something that might kill us. It exists across many species as an adaptive mechanism to deal with threats and anxiety. Humans are often fascinated by scary and deadly things because, evolutionarily, it’s mostly about information gathering. That’s just how our brains are wired. Just like a gazelle can forage safely because she knows the difference between a satiated lion and a hungry one, we can use our morbid curiosity to understand how we respond in frightening situations and manage our fear more effectively, so it doesn’t paralyze us in other real-life scenarios. In the end, it’s not always about seeking danger for a rush. ‘White-knucklers’ approach scary situations to manage their fear and learn about themselves. ‘Dark copers’ use horror and fear as a safe space to regulate their anxiety. In fact, surveys have shown that horror fans deal better with pandemics and wars. I, like the rest of my country, don’t need saving; we need the means to fight our battles and enjoy life even while facing challenges🙏🏻 I love my choices. They are only granted in freedom.

morbid curiosity (will inevitably kill the clown) #billskarsgard #billskarsgård #billskarsgardfanart #billskarsgardart #thecrow2024 #billskarsgarddrawing #thecrowreboot #thecrowremake #morbidcuriosity #cautiouslyoptimistic #thecrowtattoo #thecrowtattoos #whydididrawthis For the two people who actually read this - I'm cautiously optimistic about this new film. No, I'm not really deterred by the new design - Bill Skarsgård is perfectly capable of making it work with his performance (which in my opinion is what separates him from Leto's Joker, regardless of the comparisons.) Do I wish this film followed the original O'Barr work more? That The Crow had a scar across his nose, and a frizzy mullet? Yeah, definitely. But the new direction still doesn't quite deter me. What DOES deter me, is Rupert Sanders as a filmmaker, and Lionsgate as a studio. Afterall, Rupert Sanders is BEST known for the largely panned "Ghost in the Shell" adaptation from 2017 - he DID direct a handful of jaw-dropping adverts for the Bungie era Halo games, but I'm still largely unconvinced given his actual FILMography, and reputation as a studio do-boy. As for Lionsgate - their names were on the 2019 Hellboy film, need I say more? I'm approaching this film from a standpoint of morbid curiosity - maybe it does REEK of studio and focus group tested ooze, and something about it does feel superficially inauthentic thus far, but - there has to be something more here, right? ...right??

‘the snake has eaten its own tail’ i just completed penance by eliza clark and it may have become the best book i have ever read. this is a masterpiece in the criticism of morbid curiosity, i have never seen anything like it and i doubt i will again. it shows the damage that casual interest in crimes can have, and proves that there is a very thin line between curiosity and acting out the crimes yourself. clark executed everything perfectly. it follows the story of three school girls who murd3r one of their peers, and is presented as a true crime account of what occurred. however, i have never seen such an unreliable narrator before. the journalist who gained all of this information embellished the anecdotes given about the k!llers by their respective family members in order to turn them into ‘beautiful prose’, so how much is really true? the quote i used at the beginning of this review is one of my favourites from the whole book. presented at the end, it reflects on how someone offering tours around where this murd3r happened went from hating the true crime tourist industry, to gaining as much money as possible off of the back of this horrific incident. it also summarises the thoughts and feelings of the journalist, too, because he repeatedly condemned one of the k!llers for creating fanfiction about two k!llers she idolised, yet did he not do the same when fictionalising anecdotes in order to get the ‘emotion’ of the crime across? i loved this so much. i can’t wait to read it again already, along with anything else that clark releases in the future. she has presented herself as one of the giants of modern literature through penance. #reading #read #book #bookstagram #booktok #instagrambooks #author #reader #history #historian #bookpost #pages #escapism #escape #lovereading #firstedition #bookstore #bookshop #readingtime #penance #elizaclark #clark #tumblr #tumblrgirl #tumblraesthetic #mentalhealthawareness #truecrime #truecrimecommunity #crowonsea #morbidcuriosity

𝕹𝖔 𝖙𝖊𝖆𝖗𝖘 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖈𝖑𝖔𝖜𝖓 💧🤡 • 30 years ago today the Killer Clown, John Wayne Gacy, was executed at Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, IL by lethal injection. The entire procedure took 18 mins. For his last meal, Gacy ordered a bucket of KFC, french fries, a dozen fried shrimp, fresh strawberries and a Diet Coke. Gacy reportedly declined to give a final statement, however rumor has it he had said, “Kiss my ass”, to a guard who was present for his execution, though that was not his official statement. A new house stands at 8213 W. Summerdale Ave where the house with the infamous crawlspace once stood, but that doesn’t stop looky-loos and true crime fanatics from stopping by for pictures though, and it certainly doesn’t erase the fact that nearly 30 victims were once buried in that dirt. I hope that all involved have at the very least found peace. • I spent all day today w/ @t3chn0mancer in an alley working on a John Wayne Gacy themed photoshoot. I’m not sure if they’ll be posted to my feed or somewhere else but I’ll update my stories whenever they’re posted for anyone interested. Sending you all love and hugs. I finally had a few days off from touring so naturally I headed up north in search of gravesites. 🦁 Since I’m sitting here at the Museum of American History in sight of the ruby slippers, I feel it’s appropriate to share the gravesite of Bert Lahr who played the Cowardly Lion. During my visit to his grave, I loved the items people left behind, most notably the poppies with the Dorothy dress inspired ribbon. 🦁 Although mostly known for his role in The Wizard of Oz, he was also an accomplished stage and television actor. In 1964 he won a Tony for his performance in “Foxy”. 🦁 During the filming of Oz, he was often the jokester of the bunch often ad-libbing lines and cracking up the cast. The costume he wore was made of real lion fur and was unbearably hot to wear. 🦁 In December 1967, Lahr fell ill and passed away. Initially it was thought he had pneumonia but he actually passed from an undiagnosed cancer. He was laid to rest at Union Field Cemetery in New York.

Sorry for posting your tip late! I’ve been sick with a migraine but feeling better now. Hear your tip! I try to use body blocks with most of the people I embalm. However it may seem cold and uncomfortable for the recently deceased, proper positioning of the body is a crucial step if thorough preservation is to be achieved. My goal is to return dignity to the dead and by using these industry standard “body blocks” to elevate the body off the embalming table I am often able to reach a higher level of preservation and clean/disinfect the body much better. You might be wondering what is the benefit to a bereaved family? If I am able to fully preserve the body (including the undercarriage) there is less chance that the body will begin to permeate odor. It also allows for a more dignified bathing experience for the dead. I am able to wash and disinfect the back and buttocks with better success. I try to be creative when using body blocks and place them in areas that help to create an illusion of comfort. Often I place one under the hip to help straighten a contorted body. Mostly I use them in these three areas. 💀 Under the shoulder blades 💀 Under the lower back 💀Under the pelvis Pro Tip💀 Placing a body block under the lower back and pelvis allows for better distribution in the buttocks as it takes pressure off the major vessels. This is especially helpful in cases where excess weight is a consideration. Often times when people are in the dying process it’s difficult for caregivers to be able to clean and wash the loved one due to pain. I take great pride in being able to offer Thai valuable service to families and they always seem comforted knowing when I tell them that I will pay special attention to their loved ones bathing process. 🖤💀 Hope you like this week’s tip! Are you big into TRUE CRIME or HORROR FILMS??? In this episode of the podcast, Dr. Ryan Moyer speaks with behavioral scientist Dr. Coltan Scrivner about morbid curiosity. They discuss the different domains of morbid curiosity, if morbidly curious people are less empathetic, what attracts us to horror & true crime content, and potential benefits of being curious about danger. Today I went on a fantastic walking tour with the @weston_historical_society through Coley Cemetery in Weston - just a couple miles from PTH. It was of particular interest to me because the Brown family who lived on and farmed our property for over 150 years were buried there. In addition, the midden dates to the time period the Browns, so it almost felt like putting a “face” to all the treasures I have been pulling out of the midden for the last few years. This cemetery goes back as far as the mid 1700s, with solders from the American Revolution, War of 1812 and Civil War noted with placards and flags. The oldest stone is that of Tammie Duncan, age 5, who died in 1765 (first photo). Fun fact! You can roughly estimate the date of an early American headstone by the symbol carved on it. The earliest tend to feature a “death head”, which comes in a lot of forms, the most famous being that of a skull with wings, but it can also appear as an hourglass. I love how literal the hourglass is like “times a’ ticking!”⌚️👀🤣. This later evolved into a cherub with wings - also symbolizing the ascension to heaven in a less morbid way. In the late 18th and early 19th century, the willow tree and urn became a popular symbol of mourning and the soul. From there, grave carving took on more modern imagery that we are used to seeing today. #cemetery #gravestone #historiccemeteries #cthistory #morbidcuriosity #westonct #peterthorphouse

I was going to post this yesterday for #morbidmonday but I accidentally fell asleep 🫠 I took my time with 𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗹𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝘂𝘁 because it was so much fun to read and I didn't want to rush over anything. Even though I read books like this all the time, I still learned a few new facts and trivia surrounding death and I think that if you're intrigued by morbid things like me, you'll enjoy this one. 𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗹𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝘂𝘁 published earlier this month. Thanks to @castlepointbooks and @stmartinspress for my gifted copy! 🖤 𝗤𝗢𝗧𝗗: Do you like trivia? If so, do you have a favorite topic? I’m not very good at trivia but if it’s death related, I’ll do alright. 😂

Protect the inner canthus of the eye by using a viscous vaseline-like product. Don’t let the name of this product (Trinity Fluids’s Stone Oil) confuse you with its competitors. It’s a unique product that I find most useful on emaciated cases. Dehydration can set in quick on cases that are emaciated. During the dying process the body goes through a period called “algor mortis.” During this time in those who were febrile at the time of death experience dehydration. Another attributing factor is if the ambient temperature was high dehydration may also be witnessed. After death the 👄 and 👀 are often the first places that this is visually evident. Brown tough dry patches begin to appear and if left untreated can completely ruin the natural appearance of these very important features of the face making the person look deformed and unnatural. Separation naturally occurs as the tissue begins to recede. Pro tip💀: Avoid using adhesive in the eyes after embalming as this will further promote dehydration and browning of the tissue Hope you enjoyed this week’s tip! Until next week Happy Embalming! 💀🎩 🧪🫀 #embalming #embalmer #anatomy #eye #innercanthus #science #mortician #tips #morbidcuriosity #spookyscience #spookymom

I drive past this every other day in Keysoe, dismissed it as a farm building (always thought it’d make a cool potting shed). I found out this Victorian building was actually used to store the parish bier, a flat-bed trolley on wheels that the coffins of parishioners could be pulled or pushed from the house of the deceased to the church (bier/bear the weight?🤔) The 12th church, St Mary the Virgin, is just across the road. #weirdwalks #medievalchurch #victorianbuilding #localhistory #churchyard #morbidcuriosity
