From lesson content, to lights, devices, printing, taps, use of spaces and food production, Cheam embraced a whole school switch off day! The aim of the day is to increase awareness and promote discussion on how we use energy and resources. It was great to see so many classes taking their learning outdoors or thinking of alternative ways to save energy while going about their day. The absence of technology and screens created a wonderful sense of social connection, active engagement and communal purpose. The majority of lessons took place outside. The staff and children made use of the natural resources around them. Rocks were used to form diagrams of how sediment moves within rivers. Leaves, feathers, flowers and various plants were used in a treasure hunt as part of the Year 6 and 7s chasse aux trésors naturels! The pool, Astro and pitches were measured in size and volume, and the pagoda and Cheam Tops were used for open air performances in Drama and English! The whole school also enjoyed lunch outdoors with some deliciously prepared baguettes from the culinary team! It was truly a whole team Cheam effort and it was a very special day. It makes a huge difference when you have a newborn or unwell baby. 💌 I believe there is so much more to befriending our minds, hearts and bodies than can be captured within a single framework or therapeutic technique, And, we need to do better at holistically holding space for trauma and diverse experiences. I’ve always been proud of my small town roots in Camden but the latest “noise” filled with bigotry and prejudices is just horrifying. As a librarian, the idea of censoring books just isn’t for me. What will be next? I am sad and afraid for the little community that will always hold a place in my heart - a heart that was taught to be open to new experiences, treat others fairly, and love everyone (not just those whom I agree with). currently it’s 11:17pm i get up for work at 5am can’t sleep, so I’m writing sometimes it’s what i do best and lately i have not been my best. i have not felt pretty enough, not successful enough. i have horrible mom guilt and i struggle with anxiety daily. i have let people down. let myself down. and i am trying to place my feet back to the ground. life is so hard. being an adult in todays world is hard. and during all this i am trying to give myself grace because I’ve learned that if i don’t, there is no one else that will. i keep trying to remind myself that I’m capable of doing anything i want to. that decisions out of my comfort zone don’t scare me and that I’ll get to where i want to. the reality, though, is that i probably don’t fully believe in these sentences. i don’t know what goal i want to reach and everything seems too big for me. i keep comparing my life to other people’s lives, especially people i know nothing about. this was something i want to work on and i was making signs of progress. but it easily comes back when i feel this vulnerable or down. i have been through this kind of cycle before. It comes and goes. there are times where i feel super strong and proud of what I’m doing and others, like now, where uncertainty takes over. anyways…. at this point i feel like i am rambling and i probably should try to close my eyes…but if my randomness brings comfort to someone else who might be going through the same thing, then I want them to know that i believe in you, your dreams, your goals, your strengths and all the decisions you have made and make everyday. mistakes will be made life will be hard but you are human and you are doing the best you can and in case no one has told you today i am so proud of you! 🤎🤎🤎
