Joe Louis vs Mike Tyson FANTASY FIGHT TALE OF THE TAPE Height: Louis 6’2 Tyson 5’10 Height advantage: LOUIS Weight Louis 196-200 lbs Tyson 215-220 lbs Weight advantage: Tyson Reach: Louis 76 inches Tyson 71 inches Reach advantage: LOUIS Speed: Louis had fast hands and not credited enough Tyson was faster both hand and afoot Speed advantage: TYSON Strength Both strong Strength advantage: Tyson but not by as much as you think Power: Both hard hitters Power advantage: LOUIS due to superior leverage and the fact he would more often knock his opponents out cold with one shot. Stamina: Louis by a mile Fundamentals: Louis has arguably the best fundamentals ever Fundamentals advantage:LOUIS Chin: Tyson was stopped 5 times but it took a lot to get him there. Louis was knocked out just twice. Chin advantage: Louis by a hair due to better recovery Heart: Louis got up against prime Marciano when he was washed And fought in a tougher era. Louis by a mile IQ: Louis is considered to have one of the best boxing brains. This fight would depend on how louis copes with Tyson’s early onslaught. The fact lesser fighters could handle Tyson’s onslaught. A great champion like louis definitely can. He went 8 rounds with a prime Marciano when he was washed. Tyson rarely knocked a guy out after the 6th. And after the breakdown of advantages Louis supersedes Tyson 8:3 So after the breakdown we favour Louis in this fantasy fight. #boxing #tyson #miketyson #louis #joelouis #fantasy #fantasyfight

Joseph Louis Barrow (May 13, 1914 – April 12, 1981) was an American professional boxer. Nicknamed the Brown Bomber, Louis is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential boxers of all time. Joe Louis defied the color barrier and was appreciated by Americans of all races. He reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949. He was victorious in 25 consecutive title defenses, a record for all weight classes. Louis retired in 1949, still the undefeated heavyweight champ. After succumbing to financial pressures and government debts, Louis was forced back into the ring for a brief time. In 1984, the four streets surrounding Madison Square Garden were named Joe Louis Plaza in his honor. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1982. Louis had the longest single reign as champion of any boxer in history. Joe Louis was a former resident of 555 Edgecombe Avenue in Harlem, NYC. #JoeLouis 👑🥊👊🏾aka “The Brown Bomber” 👊🏾💣 born May 13th, 1914, was a legendary professional boxer who ruled the ring from 1934 to 1951. He reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949, and is considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. Nicknamed the "Brown Bomber", Louis' championship reign lasted 140 consecutive months, during which he participated in 26 championship fights. He was victorious in 25 consecutive title defenses. #Louis was named fighter of the year four times by The Ring magazine in 1936, 1938, 1939, and 1941. Louis was named the #1 heavyweight of all time by the International #Boxing Research Organization. In 2007, he was ranked #4 on ESPN.com's 50 Greatest #Boxers of all-time list. In 2002 The Ring ranked Louis #4 on their 80 best fighters of the last 80 years list. Louis was also ranked #1 on The Ring's list of 100 Greatest Punchers of All Time. Louis' cultural impact was felt well outside the ring. He is widely regarded as the first person of African American descent to achieve the status of a nationwide hero within the United States, and was also a focal point of anti-Nazi sentiment leading up to and during World War II. He also help integrate Professional Golf, as his recognition also transcends the sporting world. In 2002, scholar Molefi Kete Asante listed #JoeLouis on his list of “100 Greatest African Americans”. On August 26, 1982, #TheBrownBomber was posthumously approved for the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award given to civilians by the U.S. legislative branch. Info quoted from @blackkeycomics appreciate the knowledge on this one! 1/1 on the census 😤😎 For those who might not be familiar, this book played a pivotal role in the launch of “Negro Heroes #1” back in 1947. “True Comics #5,” published in 1941, holds the distinction of being the very first comic to feature a black character on its cover and simultaneously include that character’s “featured story” within the comic. Remarkably, this book predates “All Negro Comics,” “Negro Heroes,” “Crown Comics #3”, and even “Picture News #6”. The Parents’ Institute, in 1947, published “Negro Heroes #1,” essentially compiling various reprints from their prior black-themed stories that had appeared in many of their other comics and magazines. Interestingly, some people mistakenly attribute the publication of “Negro Heroes” to the Urban League. However, the Urban League merely served as the face for the title, allowing The Parents’ Institute to create and publish a comic that specifically targeted black readers, encompassing all their previous black-themed stories. “True Comics #5” isn’t easy to come by, but before you consider acquiring a copy of “Negro Heroes #1 or #2,” it’s crucial to recognize the historical significance of this book—it’s the most important of the three to own. #blackcomicmuseum #joelouis #superslabscomics #truecomics #cgccomics

In the neighborhood… The birthday of heavyweight boxing champion Joe Louis (1914-1981) was on May 13 and by chance, I saw this remarkable portrait of him by Detroit artist Henry Heading (1957- ). The painting is exhibited as part of “Beyond the Frame,” a retrospective of Heading’s work at Galerie Camille on Cass Avenue that runs through May 24th. Included are new works, paintings with unique custom framing, treasure boxes, furniture and portraits. Heading’s mother was an art teacher and he has enjoyed creating art since childhood. While an art student at Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Detroit, his art teacher arranged for him to create and present a portrait to Mayor Coleman A. Young. Like Heading, Louis came from humble beginnings. The Detroit Historical Society says Louis (nicknamed the Brown Bomber) is “generally regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, a breaker of racial barriers, and national hero. Joseph Louis Barrow was born near Lafayette, Alabama. His family came to Detroit in 1926 when Louis was 12, and settled in the city’s Black Bottom Neighborhood. As a teenager, Louis developed an interest in boxing while spending time at the Brewster Recreation Center, and fought as an amateur.” Louis reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 until his temporary retirement in 1949. All of America looked to Louis as a hero, simultaneously crushing the Nazi “master race” notions. He was a focal point of anti-Nazi sentiment leading up to and during World War II because of his historic rematch with German Boxer Max Schmeling in 1938. Joe Louis worked tirelessly to advocate for the rights of Black Americans and to promote social justice. “My gift was fighting and through fighting I was to uplift the spirit of my race”, ” he said. #joelouis #josephlouisbarrow #brownbomber #heavyweight #heavyweightboxer #detroitboxer #henryheader #henrytheader #galeriecamille #casscorridor #beyondtheframe #detroitart #detroitartists #heavyweightchampion #worldchampion #blackhistory #africanamericanhistory #africanamericanart #detroitgallery

"He can run, but he can't hide" American boxer Joe Louis, born 105 years ago today. One of the greatest boxers of all time, he held the heavyweight champion title from 1937 until 1949 - the longest reign in history. Achieving significant influence within boxing as well as US culture more broadly, Louis is considered the first Black American to become a national hero. Nicknamed "The Brown Bomber", his management strictly controlled the boxer’s public image to appeal to a white media that held racist expectations of Black men. Competing during what has been termed the sport’s golden age, Louis earned nationwide praise for his public support of the wartime effort and became a key figurehead for army recruitment. Following his boxing career, Louis also made sporting history in the world of golf. In 1952, he was invited to play in the San Diego Open as an amateur, which eventually lead to the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) removing the bylaw in place at the time that limited memberships to white Americans. 📷️: Joe Louis reads about victory over Tony Galento in the Daily News, 29 June 1939 | Ed Jackson/NY Daily News Archive via Getty Images | #GettyImages #PreservingThePast #GettyArchive #joelouis #boxer #boxinghistory #sportshistory #onthisdayinhistory #onthisday #botd #shootingthepast #historyphoto #historyphotographed #archivephoto #photoarchive #vintagephoto #photolibrary #heritage #historyonfilm #historythroughalens

Paul Meltsner (1905-1966), Man and Machine, n.d., The Knockout, Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling, n.d., Portrait of John Barrymore as Hamlet, c. 1939 oil painting in private collections. We're nearly at the end of Woodstock week, examining artists associated with Woodstock NY throughout the 20th and 21st Century. This morning, I'm highlighting an important Woodstock figure who was at his peak during the WPA era. Meltsner grew up in NYC and apparently sold his first painting at age 8 for $25 to the government of Palestine. He later attended the @natlacademy and did illustration work. His art took off during the Great Depression when he toured the US in a Ford, painted scenes each day, including work that documented industrial work like this scene as well as scenes focusing agricultural life. He excelled as a printmaker as well with great lithographs of American workers. Later in his life, Meltsner moved to Woodstock from NYC to simplify his life. He had a studio barn where he concentrated on his work and proudly did not own a car or a phone, going off the grid to focus on his work. #paulmeltsner #oilpainting #ashcandailymeltsner #ashcandailyfirst #laborinart #wpaart #workers #woodstickartist #boxingart #johnbarrymore #hamlet #worksprogressadministration #joelouis #maxschmelling

Evander "real deal" Holyfield vs Reddick "big daddy" Bowe One of the best boxing trilogies in history, imo the second best behind Frazier vs Ali. 2 of the hungriest and biggest heart fighters of the 80-90s, when these 2 got in the inside, a flurry of heavy hooks and deadly uppercuts would be thrown. As a former sparring partner, Bowe knew what to expect from Holyfield. He would use high guard, cross guard, and Philly shell periodically to keep Bowe on his toes while Bowes jab was deadly, snapping Holyfields neck back on multiple occasions. These explosions of fast combos were the highlight of the fight, mixed with the insane defence it was a technical masterpiece. #larryholmes #boxing #heavyweight #gerogeforeman #muhammadali #miketyson #boxing #heavyweight #sonnyliston #jerryquarry #floydpatterson #evanderholyfield #joelouis #jackdempsey #lennoxlewis #joelouis #rockymarciano #archiemoore #robertoduran #sugarrayleonard #sugarrayrobinson #mannypacquiao #floydmayweather #royjonesjrofficial #marvinhagler #reddickbowe

No pude derribarte. Y dudo que nadie pudiera hacerlo. Tú tienes más espíritu y voluntad que ningún otro hombre que yo haya conocido”. 💪🏿 Ezzard Chalrles murió en un hospital público de veteranos en mayo de 1975, a causa de su enfermedad. Tenía 53 años. 🇺🇸 #boxeo #boxeointernacional #EzzardCharles #box #boxeoprofesional #usaboxing #boxeomundial #rockymarciano #JoeLouis #mundoboxeo #USA

👑 I’m a king, indeed, because I know how to rule myself 🥊 . #joelouis loved golf and so we. He loved that the nature of the game required mastery of self. We all know golf takes work to play it well — and it takes sense to know how and when to put in the grind — and when to leave it alone for a bit. . But your style, on and off the course — that doesn’t take a day off. We want you to wear apparel that celebrates the challenge of mastering then game whether that’s this beautiful game of 18 holes 🏌🏾 or life ⛳️ . . . . #selfmastery #selfmade #asyouthinksoshallyoubecome #golftalk #golfwisdom #golfislife #golfisfun #golfishard #keepworking #keepgrinding #buildyourempire #buildyourbusiness #startyourlegacy
